The scent there had changed, in a way that made her even more worried. It smelled of misery and coldness. It smelled of blood. Her stomach lurched as she nimbly padded into the camp. "Fernshade!" Cried a voice, making her fur stick up. She whipped to her side, and relaxed to see it was just Rosebloom. "We thought you were dead!" The Siamese she-cat said, bounding closer to her. "Well I'm not. Look, I don't have the time to be dilly-dallying. Where's Brindlestar?" Fernshade meowed, her tail flicking wildly. Rosebloom's excited expression fell. Her paws shuffled. "Well..." She was croaking. No. StarClan, no. Please don't... Fernshade's mind swirled.
"... Rosebloom? Did Brindlestar really...?" Fernshade didn't dare to say it. Rosebloom nodded, slowly. "StormClan attacked while you were gone... we lost Brindlestar, Gorgeshadow... and... oh, Fernshade..." Rosebloom murmured, her tail tip touching Fernshade's shoulder softly. "I wish I didn't have to tell you this, but we lost Acornfur..." She meowed hoarsely. No. No. No... Fernshade's world darkened. "The kits?" She croaked. "They're fine, but the Fresh Kill Pile is low..." Rosebloom muttered. StarClan, please let this be a dream.
(Creating a new cat.)
Storm looked over the fence, he ran and jumped, wishing he could climb, he was only 6 moons old and he wanted to be free. "Storm! Food!" His twoleg called, yet he stayed where he was, eager to climb up onto the fence, his fur was grey and his blue eyes sparkled, his twoleg walked outside. "Storm!" The twoleg yelled loudly, birds flying out of trees. Storm hissed and arched his back, he made one last jump, he unseathed his claws and he stuck to the fence like two magnets, he started to climb quickly; and got to the top, his twoleg reached to grab him, yet he jumped off and rolled into the bushes.
"You both were being controlled by StarClan, and I understand that you didn't know of your actions and couldn't control it. Both of you will be treated with the same respect as before, as you are still members of DawnClan." Reedstar reassured. Three young kits scrambled out of the Nursery. "Mama!" The brown-furred kit squealed, and ran over to Fernshade. "Hello, Thornkit." She lapped his head softly. Echokit's flank brushed against Fernshade's leg. Stormkit purred wildly.
"Let's see... Larkkit and his sister Hearthkit become apprentices. Oh, and we have a new Medicine cat--Lilacheart." She meowed. "Wildpaw became a warrior--she's Wildheart now." Gingerleaf added, purring a bit in pride for her former apprentice. "That's good." Fernshade replied, glancing around the camp.
Storm plodded through the forest, he could smell other cats. "Oh boy! New friends!" He jumped out of the bush right in front of NightShade.
"A kittypet, old enough to become an apprentice." NightShade spat, back arched, everyone turned to face the kittypet.
"Hi everyone! I'm Storm! Can I be your friends?" He asked politely.
NightShade sat up straight. "Not what I'd expect from a kittypet.." She mumbled. "Friends?" TreePelt echoed, looking at the grey kittypet.
"Yeah!" He mewed. "Your all so huge and muscular, look at that scratch that one has, that's a nasty deep cut."
NightShade stared down at the kittypet in Suprize.
"I'd say you would need a few herbs to chew to take the pain, followed by coating it with marigold and cobwebs." He suggested, he jumoed into a bush and pulled out a mouse and gave it to HoneyLeaf. "You could use that too, you seem starving."
HoneyLeaf started at him. "How many moons old are you?" She asked.
"About 7,8,9." He murmured.
HoneyLeaf licked his forehead. "You would make a fine warrior." She complimented.
"You think? I seem the same age as you." Storm replied.
NightShade padded over to them. "You do look like you know a lot about clan life for a kittypet. ReedStar, what do you think?" NightShade asked.
Fernshade turned to Reedstar to see his reply. Thornkit ran around her, and for a moment she thought it was Acornfur crouching down in his flawless hunters' crouch, dashing soundlessly on the grassy floor of the forest. It almost felt painful to realize it wasn't. He didn't die in vain. He died fighting... for the Clan. She reminded herself almost bitterly, and tried without success to not think about it. Reedstar's front legs stretched out, his back arching and nearly touching the ground. Swiftly he sat down, his posture straight as a stick of bamboo. "A kittypet?" He meowed, although Fernshade was surprised he didn't snort in disapproval. His electric blue eyes stared into the kittypet tom's.
"Very well. We shall train you to be a warrior of DawnClan, however, it will take you time to get used to the starvation we go through and have the loyalty of a regular warrior." Reedstar meowed. "Don't think it's easy. I'm very solemn, Storm. It will take you time." He continued. Suddenly, Reedstar's tail bashed. "Or perhaps you could be a Medicine Cat apprentice, and study herbs and healing... Lilacheart doesn't have an apprentice yet. You choose, Storm." He said in his gravelly voice and looked down at the tom.
NightShade sighed and looked around, she then saw one of FernShades kits bounding around and grabbing a bright red berry off the bush. DEATHBERRIES! NightShade thought. She ran up the the tiny kit and hit the berries out of its hand, she looked down at the kit, it's mouth frothing up. "FERNSHADE! LILACPELT!" NightShade yowled.
"Stormkit!" Fernshade yowled at the top of her lungs and leaped over to the kit. His gray fur was puffed up. The light-brown tabby slipped out of the nearby cave, her glassy green eyes wide and alerted. "Lilacheart, hurry! Stormkit's swallowed Deathberries!" Fernshade wailed. The Medicine Cat quickly zoomed into the cave, and came out with yarrow. Her small paw set on Stormkit's jaw. The he-kit wriggled slightly, more of a twitch. Fernshade pressed her nose to the kit's head. No. I can't loose you, either. Lilacheart forced Stormkit to swallow the yarrow.
(Your turn to decide whether the kit survives o3o)
"Then I wanna go, too! He's my brother and I have the right to go where he is!" The stubborn she-kit mewled, stomping on the ground with her tiny paws. "You'll go there, one day, Echokit. Just not soon." Because I won't let you. Fernshade's nose pressed against her small, gray-furred kit's flank. "I won't forget you, my little warrior."
A small, furry paw batted at her face. "Don't worry. I'll look after Echokit. I'll make sure she stays, no matter what. Okay?" Thornkit mewled. You poor kit. You've had everything taken from you. How could I bring you into this heavy burden? Fernshade lapped her kit's head. "No, Thornkit. You mustn't carry that burden on you. I'll make sure of that, alright?" Fernshade croaked, wanting to bury her head into Acornfur's brown fur again. "I-I... I'll bring you someplace safe." She said softly, knowing that if she did this her kits would not remember her. "I promise." The warrior whispered.
