''chloe... i'll be right back, i heard someone outside..'' he murmured quietly and got up heading for the kitchen first.
he grabbed a knife and hid it behind his back as he went to the door.
''who's there?'' he said not opening the door.

his head jerked up towards the ceiling listening.
what the heck is going on now... he thought with a silent growl.
shade looked around the corner looking at chloe.
''hide, and don't come out unless i say so..'' he said and went up the stairs now holding the knife with a better grip on the handle.
no one will invade this house... not on my watch! he thought as anger started to build up.

his ears instantly perked as he looked down the stairs.
chloe! he thought in total fear and bolted down running into the living room.
he skidded to a stop and seen the window smashed open, but didn't see anyone in there now.
''chloe...'' he mumbled and dropped the knife.

he pulled the knife out and muttered something holding his hand over the wound.
the wound healed up slowly but left a small scar.
''c-chloe...'' he mumbled quietly.
he picked her up and sat on the sofa holding her close.
''who ever did this to you will pay...'' he said as if promising her.

he finished his incantation after everything went back into its place.
shade stopped hugging chloe but held her in his arms.
he closed his eyes looking down, tears streaming.
''this is my fault.. if only i hadn't of left you alone..'' he muttered.
