"Well it's still cheating to--" Sakura walked over to her brother
and slammed her paw over his head, a bit harder than usual. He
grumbled and pinned his ears back defensively, but eventually came
to his senses. "How about we do something else?" She suggested,
nudging her brother a bit harshly.
Blaze only chuckled. "I like to think that I'm less violent
nowadays, especially with the kits... but I suppose not."
Hazel huffed and batted his leg again for good measure, then went
back to where she had been next to her siblings, her tail
twitching.
''they shouldn't have to deal with violence anyway since they're
all still kits.... why do you think i sent Thistle off before i
followed you and threatened that tom cat who came here...?'' she
questioned.
"I didn't mean towards them, Silver. Besides, they're at the age
where they can't quite ignore it completely... although you've
always been more fitting to be a mother than me." She said this
softly, taking note that she didn't use Rye's name. Because she
probably doesn't know it, Blaze thought to herself, a bit
guilty that she had held information from them. At the same time,
he didn't mean anything to her and didn't need his name to be
known.
''heh... well i have a kit who's already got a mate and probably
has kit's of her own by now.... and now i have these little bundles
of fluff to look after... kit's are wonderful to have, they're a
blessing...'' Silver murmured.
she glanced over her shoulder at the bush she had exited a little
bit ago and sighed, her ear's drooping and curled her tail around
her paw's.
''but it's heartbreaking to loose a kit... especially at such a
young age.....'' she muttered, her voice seeming to crack a bit.
"I can only imagine..." Blaze sighed, her ears flattening a bit.
She nuzzled her head a bit farther into her paws, turning so that
she could watch the kits again.
Blaze said nothing and turned her attention back to the kits. She
was fully awake but had no intention of actually standing up
anytime soon. Sakura froze from across the field to meet her gaze
as if she were a deer in headlights. Blaze held her muzzle shut,
her whiskers twitching. There was a small part of her that wondered
if she would actually leave the forest, and an even smaller part of
her that didn't want her to leave. Sakura broke away.
''i'm guessing you and Sakura got into a little chitchat session
about the fact she wants to go see the world...?'' Silver asked,
seeming to read her friends thoughts without much trouble at all.
Blaze's whiskers twitched at Silver's ease of reading her, but it
was what she expected after all those years. If anyone was going to
be able to read her, she wanted it to be Silver. "Yeah," she
sighed, "yeah. I'm not going to stop her or anything but it's still
worrying, y'know? She's my kit. I can't help it, as much as I want
to."
Blaze paused for a few seconds, letting Silver's words sink in. She
was only saying what Blaze already knew. "I know. But I don't want
to confine her... have I ruined her by doing that?" She grumbled,
her ears flattening. "I've taught her the basics of defense but it
isn't remotely close to what she might face in... in the wild. I...
The last thing I want is for her to turn out like me. But she has
hints of it, and it terrifies me. They all do."
''my sweet kits show signs of having they're own personalities, but
with some hints of me and Hawk in them... sure they'll make
mistakes, but they can learn from those mistake's and try to avoid
the same situations over and over, mistake after mistake, but
lesson learned with each mistake.. it's a part of life Blaze.. and
i always pray for better days like our old times of racing, play
fighting.... and always hope the bad days soon become good...''
Silver murmured, laying over and against her friend, giving her a
reassuring headbutt against her cheek to try and cheer her up.
she soon looked back over the kits and swayed her tail across the
earth that wasn't covered in grass, her gaze seeming to become
distant.
''life goes on and will continue to go on after we pass on to the
magnificent starry sky above my dear friend... from generation to
generation, mistakes will happen and good times will bloom like a
beautiful daisy.. you just have to flow along with life like a leaf
floating in a stream.....'' she sighed.
Blaze pinned her ears to her head, but it was clear that she was a
bit relieved by this. "You were always rather philosophical,
weren't you?" She murmured, although appreciatively. Her whiskers
twitched as she looked up at the sky, the cruising ceiling of
clouds seeming to soothe her; it always had. She took a moment to
think about their younger days and it brought a bit of bright
nostalgia. The kits prancing around the field was what brought her
back to reality, but she seemed a lot more content. "I've never
stopped to think about the number of our days. I think I'm going to
go run around with the kits so I can avoid the truth," she stated
bluntly, leaping to her paws and bounding off to catch up with
Jinx.
''just careful with that broken leg of yours Blaze, you've tripped
before cause of that so please, try not to hurt yourself'' Silver
said, a bit concerned but happy to see that she managed to somewhat
change the subject.
she got up and trotted over to where Hawk was with two out of the
three kittens snuggled up against him, the two kittens being
Thistle surprisingly and Ginger.
she nuzzled Hawk and the kittens one at a time and purred softly,
swaying her tail a little.
Hazel was chasing after Jinx bugging him to tell her a story, just
like any other kit would to an older kit or cat.
''please Jinxie..? i wanna hear a story'' she mewled, using a
nickname basically her and her siblings use for him.
Jinx sighed and plopped down, his tailed curled around his front
paws laxly. "Okay, okay!" He mewled in defeat, pausing to look
around him for story ideas. Blaze trotted up to them slowly and sat
down next to Hazel, happily waiting for Jinx to start.
"There was... a cloud," he said, his eyes flitting to the sky
above, "and this cloud, you see, was a very special cloud. In a sea
of very white and fluffy clouds, this cloud was a sad little purple
cloud."
Hazel pinned her ear's back and flicked her tail.
''a real story Jinxie!'' she hissed, a little annoyed now since
Jinx was making up a story instead of telling a true story.
Jinx mewled in protest, "I'm still a kit, too!" He buried his
muzzle grumpily into his tail, his fur puffed up a bit. He looked
over at Blaze for help, to which she reached over to nuzzle her
kit's shoulder. "Surely you can think of something, dear. You've
got so many stories buzzing about in your head."
"Mmmn. Oh. Oh! Okay. So, once upon a time, there was a little
she-kit. She was from a clan that was far, far away--a clan that
was so closed off that there was no other clan that was friends
with them. This clan moved around, though, in hopes that they would
find a friend-clan. This little kit was really adventurous and
wandered just a little bit behind her clan when they traveled so
she could look around at all of the beautiful forests and plains."
Hazel perked her ear's up and the annoyed expression she had
disappeared instantly.
soon she laid down and tucked her front paws underneath herself,
curling her tail around herself as she was now listening intently,
her ear's swiveled forward.
Jinx's tail twitched with delight upon seeing Hazel's newfound
positivity. He was surprised that he had snapped her attention so
quickly, but he was in no place to judge--he was like that,
too.
"So, one day, the kit was meandering about a forest that her clan
was passing by. She didn't realize that her entire clan was far,
far ahead--so far, in fact, that she couldn't see them. She
realized that she was lost in the forest and began to mewl, pacing
around and around until becoming even more lost than she had been
before.
"When she finally gave up she plopped down on a rock that was
heated by the sun and watched the stream on the ground flow."
