As Rhiannon began the grime procession that was the walk down the main street, whispers tug at her eyes. Each demanding to be heard and recognized. She had long learned to tune out the unhappy requests of the dead, but today they called out to her, as if taunting her situation. Rhiannon closed her eyes and briefly rubbed her temples. When she opened her eyes again, the whispers were gone, replaced by the feeling of eyes. Upon reaching the town square and supplying the peacekeeper with her blood, she took her place in line. Shoulders pressed against shoulders, legs tapping in rhythmic patterns. Despair hung like clothes on a clothesline, and Rhiannon didn't need the lost ones to tell her that.

The story of the Lux family was one of tragedy, sacrifice and victory. Every young Lux had learned the story, be it through parents, grandparents of older siblings. Trailing all the way back to the 17th Hunger Games, when Raiden Lux slit the throats of, at the time, a record breaking 8 tributes. Raiden Lux married a man whose name has been lost and had three children. The oldest, a young man named Lucio, fell in love with a woman named Thea. They had twins, whom they called Yelena and Oran. Yelena's life was lost at the age of 17, but not before she could pass on her spirit to another. The shining lady of light, Alora Lux was born. A glint in her eyes from day one, Alora was 7 when her sister died. Thea and Oran Lux had another set of twins. They named them Alya and Apollo, marking them as another branch in the Lux family tree.

Like sister, like sister.

Like Yelena like Alora.

Death is not particular about the order.

Across 12 districts, the early morning sun climbed the sky, piercing the clouds and shining its warm rays upon early risers. It appeared like a normal day. But today was the farthest thing from an ordinary day. Today was reaping day. Within minutes, a heavy fog set itself upon district 1. The cloudy atmosphere was unusual, but today was reaping day, unusual was usual. Alora Lux opened her golden eyes and stretched her back. The sound of wind chimes filed the silent morning air, causing a small smile to form on Alora's face. Soon, the Lux household would be full and lively. For now, however, it was quiet, and seemed empty. Alora attributed that to the fact that the twins had not yet woken up. The twins... Alora's youngest siblings, Alya and Apollo lived up to their names. They were full of light and cheerfulness, being too young to comprehend the reality of horrible world they live in. Alora was old enough. And Alora was fully aware.

She knew.

"I am sorry. I cannot see any further." Rhiannon Elce opened her icy blue eyes. "Thank you for trying..." the distraught woman in front of Rhiannon murmured. Rhiannon hugged her arms to her chest, her expression bleeding sympathy. "Try the apothecary. Perhaps you will find a cure there." she suggested. The woman's eyes brightened hopefully. "Thank you, Miss Elce. I'll go right away!" Rhiannon watched as the woman scurried away. While she hoped the woman's son's fate would be changed, she sensed the young boy would not make it much longer. Sickness came hand in hand with starvation in district 12. Rhiannon had seen that all her life. Perhaps things would change. If someone won the games... Rhiannon shook her head. She knew that wouldn't happen. She saw the future, laid out like a storybook in front of her. She could but turn the pages, watching as life went by. Today would be no different... or would it?

Loud cheers of gleeful celebration echoed throughout the streets of district 2. Unlike the grim silence of the surrounding districts, district 2 was ablaze with parties. People fought to fight, in district 2. They enjoyed the games and saw them as a chance to prove they were better. Better then who? Better than anyone, it didn't matter the specifics. It never mattered the specifics. Samira Ronchesque knew this. She understood this. And she was better because of it. She would be better.

Always better.

My character(s):
Show hidden content

Name: Alora Lux

Age: 17
District: 1 (Luxury)
Preferred Weapon of Choice: Knives
Personality: Alora has been nicknamed "Lady of light" because she radiates warmth and light. Alora is the most popular girl in her area, possibly in the entirety of district 1. Alora is known as a skillful fighter who excels at hand to hand. She is fairly friendly but can be overly sarcastic and somewhat pessimistic sometimes. Her mother was a victor many years ago, but not much is known about her family. She has a somewhat odd personality, as she is more clever then your average district 1 tribute, but slightly less conceited about her lineage. She has an extremely likeable personality, but the way she acts depends on who she's with.
Strengths: Excels at hand to hand combat, is good with problem solving and quick thinking. Is very likeable and very good at detecting lies. Has a ton of stamina and is fairly athletic, good at hiding pain
Weaknesses: Not used to hunger, can't do much against long range weapons such as a bow or a trident. Has a lot of secrets
Other: I have plans for this character :)))
Her younger sister Alya

Her younger brother Apollo

Her older brother Oran

Her father Lucio

Her mother Thea

Her grandmother Raiden

Name: Rhiannon Elce

Age: 17
District: 12
Preferred Weapon of Choice: Her mind
Personality: Rhiannon discovered at a very young age that her piercing eyes see into the shadows. A medium with moderate capabilities, Rhiannon can ask upon the spirits of the lost to guide her decisions. Able to communicate with the dead (to a minimum-moderate degree) and able to lift small objects at will, Rhiannon's mind is her greatest weapon. Her nickname, "Foreseer of the Deep" references the origins of her name. Rhiannon is said to mean a queen with deep power.
Strengths: Due to being able to read into the future to a degree, not much phases or surprises Rhiannon. With enough time and preparation, she can make any situation viable. She is very popular among the capital people for her charm.
Weaknesses: Is very weak, physically. If you manage to catch her off guard or overpower her, she's practically dead.
Other: Rhia would be a delightful ally wouldn't she :)

Name: Samira Ronchesque

Age: 18
District: 2
Preferred Weapon of Choice: Unknown :)
Personality: Samira is the Desert Rose. She is strong, unfeeling, uncaring and powerful. Her delightful accent makes for excellent television, earning her lots of sponsors. Samira has a very intricate and complex mind. She has her own set of issues, of course, but the inner workings of her mind allow few to enter its winding maze. With a sharp tongue and a comeback for everything, the Desert Rose has challenged the arena.
Strengths: She's more of a wildcard, but it is very clear to anyone who sees her that she is physically very capable.
Weaknesses: Again, too much of a wildcard to tell...
Other: anyone who understands these references you are now my best friend

This is a revamp of one of my favorite roleplays I've ever made! Anyone who participated in the first one gets a priority character spot, but it's open to everyone! Goodluck and May the Odds be Ever in your Favor :)))

Another day passed. Some of the tributes had spoken to others, some had perfected their skills, and even some had wasted the opportunity. The private training session was tomorrow, and the realization that these people were truly heading to their deaths soon began to set in...

Alora hesitated before speaking to anybody. She knew she would have to kill all of them in order to get back to her family, why bother trying to make friends with them? That would only worsen the killing blow and make it harder to deliver. Alora focused on what she would have to do to get back to her siblings. Water was essential, food could wait. A weapon was essential as well. Thinking about it, Alora could get food from sponsors. That wouldn't be too hard, but a weapon and most 'camping' supplies would only be found from the cornucopia. The bloodbath.

Physical violence was an interesting thing. But so was psychological violence. And the capitol was full of both. The capitol was a cage, a prison. But the districts were not much better, they were simply the playground area outside the main cellblock. The pressing environment began to well on everyone. Even one as light as Alora Lux began to feel oppressed. Alora Lux had to train. She had to perfect her strategy. Her strengths would shine and blot out any weaknesses. She knew she could easily take half the tributes on by herself and win.

There it was.

The arrogance.

Of District 1.

Of the capitol.

Alora hated it. She hated herself. She hated what she had to become.
But it was what it was.

She would play her part.

Yelena caught a yellow rose someone had thrown at her from the crowd. It had a small piece of paper attached that said "Happy Hunger Games." Yelena stared menacingly out into the crowd. She held the hand with the rose out and slowly closed her fist over the thorns on the stem. It hurt like crazy, but she could take it. Yelena opened her fist as slowly as she had closed it. Blood dripped down her arm. Yelena made eye contact with her stylist. He nodded. Yelena raised her hand above her head, allowing the blood to freely drip down her arm. She let the rose drop. As if on cue, the wings caught the light. Yelena slowly lowered her hand and crushed the rose with two fingers. The capitol would pay.

Alora Lux looked powerful. She looked like she knew something no one else did. She looked as if you could kill you before you even had the time to realize she was there. She looked dangerous. She felt weak. She felt miserable. She felt sad. Alora knew she was dangerous. She knew she probably had one of the best chances of winning. Alora had to win. She had to get back to her family. She had to avenge Yelena. The thought of Yelena filled her with fury. Alora would avenge her fallen sister. Alora stood up straighter. Whatever it takes.

Yelena was no longer herself. She was a capitol toy. She was nothing more then a plaything, an object. And it killed her. Her sister was by herself at home. And Yelena would never see her again. Yelena Lux was light. She was a sunray that pierced through the clouds. She was a blade of purity and she would stab and slice through her obstacles. With no trouble at all. Yelena would play the role of a Valkyrie. She would guide her competitors to there ends. But in the end, she would be struck down by the blade of another. She could only, only hope, that this blade was a kindred soul.

(Trigger Warning, in case it'll help anyone: Blood)
Alora stared at herself in the mirror. She slowly moved to place her hand on the mirror, and for a second, her reflection was not hers. In the mirror, was the shape of a slightly taller scared young woman. Golden wings and armor to match. Alora's hand touched the mirror. The reflection shattered. Alora could see her own reflection again, and that of Yelena. Alora felt for a moment an intense stab of pain. Alora's hands began to shake. In a brief moment of insanity, Alora slammed her palm into the mirror, shattering it into a million tiny pieces. No one came running after the sound. No one heard it. No one could see the spiderlike streaks of blood on her palms.

She was all alone. And she hated it.

"Odds are, you won't survive."

Yelena stood rigid and unmoving as her stylist slide a golden dress over her shoulders. The dress had multiple layers, and a huge skirt. "Wow. You look stunning." Yelena gave Nimai, her stylist, a warm smile. "Thanks." she whispered. "Oh don't thank me yet. I'm not done." Nimai disappeared behind a wall and reappeared with... angel wings? He adhered the feathered piece of gold to the back of Yelena's dress. "I was a little worried when I saw you, I won't lie. But you have strong shoulders." Yelena chose to stay silent, unsure if it was a compliment or not. "Step in front of the mirror please, Miss Lux." Nimai said dramatically. Yelena stepped in front of her mirror. She was taken aback. "Wow..." Yelena found she had nothing to say. She almost didn't recognize herself. She gleamed, her skin glowed, her hair was perfect and the wings... oh the wings. The wings were perfect. Yelena was ready to take on the tribute parade.

(something like this)

Alora's hands shook nervously. While most tributes spent a lot of time with there prep teams, hers had decided she was near perfect already. They had painted her nails gold, and done a little makeup. "Faven, are you going to give me the same outfit Yelena wore?" Alora asked, her voice hoarse. Faven turned and gave Alora a sympathetic smile. "No sweetheart. I sense you get compared to her enough." Alora gave her a grateful smile. Faven set to work, giving Alora a white dress with an intricate gold top. Faven spent a while on her hair, eventually setting on a long braid that twisted and turned. "I felt it was true to your heritage." Alora just shrugged. To top it off, a golden mask was set sideways in her hair. "You look stunning Miss Lux." Faven paused before adding. "Just like Yelena."
"But I'll never be Yelena."

"It is an honor to meet one of the daughters of Thea Lux." Yelena did not meet her mentor's eyes. She would be treated like royalty, she knew, not for her talents but for the talents of her family members. "Ah, you do not like to be compared to your mother." Yelena again ignored the woman. "My name is Faye." she extended her hand for Yelena to shake. "Yelena." Yelena whispered. "It was brave of you to volunteer for Alora." she gave Yelena a curious look. "Why did you do it?" she asked. Yelena looked confused. "I couldn't let my sister die. Alora is my light, I won't let her light be extinguished." Yelena said firmly. Faye smiled. "You're going to go far Yelena Lux. I promise you that."

Alora smiled at Suvansh. "That was many years ago." she turned to face the door as it opened. A young woman and a young man entered the car. The mentors. The young woman beckoned for Alora to follow her. Alora waved to Suvansh and then followed her out. "So, you are Miss Alora Lux, I assume?" Alora nodded. Her mentor turned around and stared at her. "You are the spitting image of your sister..." Alora froze. "You knew Yelena?" she asked, her voice barely a whisper. "I mentored Yelena... My name is Faye." Alora felt her world crumble to a halt around her. "You... mentored Yelena?" Alora repeated, feeling the tears she had been swallowing begin to well up again. "I asked to mentor you once I found out who you were."

Alora didn't mind Faye. Faye was a previous victor, one of many, but she seemed too genuine. "You're doing this because you feel like you failed Yelena, aren't you?" Alora asked abruptly. Faye looked alarmed but gave a week smile. "Maybe. But we need to talk about you. What are your strengths? You seem very fit, I'd guess you have a lot of stamina. But how strong are you?" Alora thought carefully before answering. "Average." that was a safe answer. "But I can do hand to hand. Also knife throwing." Alora added. Faye's eyebrows rose. "Hand-to-hand you say? Show me." Faye stood up. "I'll get in trouble." Alora said hesitantly. "No you won't." Faye replied. Alora narrowed her eyes. She began to scan Faye. Faye's stance was strong, so it would be harder to knock her off balance. Maybe the best thing to do would be to hit a pressure point and render her stunned for a few minutes.

Alora stood up. She set her eyes on Faye's right shoulder. She lunged forward but stopped short, landing two blows to the back of Faye's left shoulder and neck. Faye winced. "Interesting. Skillful, but not overconfident. Careful but not hesitant." Faye analyzed Alora's stance, walking circles around her. "Thanks." Alora murmured. "Listen to me right now Alora." Faye said suddenly. Alora looked up, and Faye put her hands on Alora's shoulders. "You can't get overconfident. You have to keep your eye on the goal. You don't make friends, you make allies. No one here cares if you live or die. Do you understand me?" Faye's blue eyes stared into Alora's soul. Alora nodded.
"For Yelena.

Yelena listened as her fellow tributes discussed strategies. She was a career, which entitled her to a pack of allies. Allies she didn't particularly want or need. Yelena crossed her legs and closed her eyes. She allowed herself to keep listening to the careers talk but did not say anything. She would keep the impression that she was above the games. Above the murder and above the people. That was the attitude of district 1. That was the attitude Yelena would keep.

Alora did not respond to Jason for a solid two minutes. "I know exactly who you are." she said finally. "My mother knew your great-grandfather." she added, opening one of her golden eyes to examine Jason, who was enjoying some pasta. He was a career, as she was. But was he above it all, like she was? Or was he happy to be here, and happy to be in the games? Was he happy to have a chance to murder and torture and kill and be a puppet, like so many victors from district 1 were? Alora refused to ask the questions that burned in her head. She would act above it all. She would act like this was a mere distraction, and a waste of time. She would follow in her mother's footsteps. She would shine her own path.
"Yelena would be proud."

Adrienne felt the walls close in on her. With no family to say goodbye too, she had boarded the train promptly and without struggle. The peacekeepers had given her sympathetic looks. They knew she didn't deserve to die. Adrienne caught someone staring at her and stared back. Surprise flickered across her face when the person turned away, their face red. Most of the time they just disappeared when they caught her looking at them. "Sort out what's real and what's not Adri, get yourself together!" she whispered. A sharp stabbing pain in her temple caused her to wince. Adrienne closed her eyes, attempting to ward off the headache. But it didn't go away. Adrienne opened her eyes again. Her face felt damp, she rubbed under her eyes. Tears. Crying. Screaming. Pain. The headache attacked her with surprising ferocity.
"They odds are low. But never zero."

Yelena Lux was terrified of the arena. But she did what it took to save her sister. Alora was the shining light of the Lux family, and Yelena privately knew that Alora would one day bring change. She had a chance to win, but she and mama both recognized that Yelena was in no condition to take on 23 other tributes. But she would still fight, fight to return to her sister. Fight to return to the twins, who had been born no more then a week ago. Mama had allowed Yelena and Alora to name the girl, and Oran and Haylen name the boy. Yelena and Alora had spent a lot of time thinking of a name, and had settled on "Alya." It kept with tradition, in naming after light. Haylen was the oldest, Oran the second oldest, Yelena the third, Alora the fourth, and now the twins, named Alya and Apollo, were the youngest. Yelena smiled when she thought of Alora. Her fellow middle child. Her favorite sister, but you couldn't tell Haylen and Alya that. Yelena felt a tear slide down her face. She would never see Alora again.

Alora sat in her train car, her legs crossed and her eyes closed. Yelena had sat in this very train car 5 years ago. She would never return. Alora refused to accept that she might never return either. Alora would avenge her sister no matter the cost. "You should start by meeting the other tributes." she murmured to herself. That could wait, she would finish her meditation first. The meditation was more important then anything. Alora thought about her strengths and weaknesses for a moment. She almost undoubtedly had the most stamina of any tribute coming to the games. She wasn't particularly big, which meant that brute force wasn't an option. However, she had skill on another level when it came to hand-to-hand. She sparred everyday, everyday since she was 12 with no exception.

Alora owed it to Yelena to fight. She had to come back from these games. It would shatter her family if she died. If not for herself and for Yelena, she had to win for her family. Alora would do anything to keep her family safe. She bit her lip. She would have to kill 23 people to make it out. Including her district partner. She would have to survive on very little food and water, and survive the elements. Not to hard. Probably. Alora sighed. The presentation ceremony would be her chance to win some initial sponsors. Hopefully she could pull it off.

The train moved faster then Alora's eyes could follow. It almost gave her motion sickness, watching as cities and plains flew by her. The train would most likely be at the capitol soon, which meant Alora only had a few more moments of quiet and peace left. A few more moments of Serenity before all hell broke loose.

"Alright capitol. Get ready to meet Alora Lux."

I'm a ghost! Fa la la la la, la la la, I'm a ghost, now you see me now you don't. I'm a ghost fa la la la la, la la la la la

Adrienne saw ghosts. She saw things she knew didn't exist. And yet they existed for her. Did that mean she didn't exist? Hm. Interesting. Adrienne couldn't trust her eyes. She couldn't trust herself. Maybe the people staring at her didn't exist. But they did, they did and there eyes burned. Adri wished she was a ghost. Her life would be so much easier if it just... didn't. She wished for simplicity, she yearned for silence. But her head was always screaming.

Reaping, reaping, reaping.

What did it mean? It meant certain death. Or did it? Did Adrienne deserve to make it out? Adrienne didn't know. So much that she pretended to know. So much she should know, but the voices told her she didn't. Adrienne found herself humming and then abruptly stopped. "No music in District 12 Adri." she scolded herself.

Reaping Day: 69th Hunger Games:
Alora watched as her mother wept. She did not understand what was going on. "Papa, what's going on?" a 12-year old Alora asked. "Shhh. Let your mother and Yelena talk..." he whispered to her. "Nono.. I am done. Let Alora say goodbye." Alora cocked her head. "Where's sister Yelena going?" she asked, her voice brittle. "Oh little luchik. I'm going to a place where the sun shines everyday. The light is is never extinguished." Yelena picked her little sister up. "What happened?" Alora asked, her small voice breaking. "You were reaped and I took your spot." Yelena murmured truthfully. It dawned on Alora why mother was crying. "NO!" Alora began to sob. "Nononononononononononononononono!" Alora's words slurred. Yelena gave her a tight hug. "Stay strong luchik. Look after mama. Make sure the twins live to understand how lucky they are. Make sure Oran still smiles, and give Papa the biggest of hugs for me okay? You are the shining light of this family, always remember that." Yelena Lux set her sister down and gave her one last smile, a smile saved only for sisters, before the peacekeepers led her away. Away to die.

Reaping Day: 74th Hunger Games
Alora put the blue rose down on the grave. Her hands trembled and she struggled with not crying. Mama had permitted Alora 10 minutes by herself before they left to go to the reaping. "Yelena I'm scared. I'm scared and I want to cry. I'm not as brave as you were. I can't do this by myself." Alora allowed the tears she had been keeping away to fall. It was here, at the grave of Yelena Lux that Alora could voice her fears. "Mama knows what I plan to do. I will do what you did for me. You saved my life, I will save the life of another girl, someone who doesn't deserve to die." Alora whispered. "Why did you have to volunteer? Why did you have to leave?" she knew it was silly. If Yelena Lux had not volunteered to save her life, Alora would be very dead. "I hope you are happy in the place of eternal light. I hope the sun shines every day, and the water is always clear blue like on the TV. I hope you're smiling every day." Alora closed her eyes before slowly standing up. "I will be brave for you Yelena. I promise." she whispered.

The walk to the town center was long and quiet. Mama held Apollo and Alya's hands, mainly to keep them from running off. Babushka had chosen to come along today, perhaps because she too knew Alora planned to volunteer. "There is no better way to go, then to save the life of another." Babushka had said those words on the day Yelena had left too. Alora wondered what her chances of survival were. Fairly high, she thought, because she lived in District 1. Once they had finally gotten to the town center, the filed into lines, got there blood drawn and were taken to where they were supposed to stand. Things went a lot more smoothly in District 1, compared to say, District 8. Alora smiled when she saw some of her friends waving to her. Her smile faltered when she realized she may never see them again.

Alora tuned out the capitol woman who came to draw names. Her accent was annoying, nothing like Mama's and Babushka's lovely accents. "And may the odds-" Alora looked up. "Be ever in your favor." she finished quietly. "Ladies first, as usual." the woman dug around in the bowl for a little while. "Cora-" Alora stood up. She knew who was going to be picked. The only Cora in there district was 13. "I volunteer as tribute!" her voice was loud and clear, and rang through the center. The lady looked startled. "My my, is that the daughter of the famous Thea Lux? What an honor it is... what an honor indeed..." Alora ignored the woman as she weaved through people to get to the stage. Usually there was a competition. "I believe your name was been called before, was it not?" the District mayor said curiously. Alora narrowed her eyes dangerously. She did not respond, she just pushed her golden hair out of her eyes. The capitol lady chuckled. "With complexation like that, it's no wonder your name is Lux. Let's give it up for Miss Alora Lux, daughter of Thea Lux and sister of Yelena Lux!" Alora hated the fact that people cheered for her. She played her part and bowed.

As usual, they let the tributes have time with their families before they sent them to the capitol. Alora hadn't paid attention to the boys reaping. Mama and Alya were let in first. "Please come back quickly." Alya gave Alora puppy dog eyes while she hugged Alora's leg, being too short to reach much higher. Alya stepped back as Papa and Oran joined in, Babushka close behind them. "You really are the spitting image of Yelena." Oran murmured, joining in on the family hug. Mother said nothing but nodded, her arms around Alora as if protecting her from the world. Apollo shoved his way into the hug, and hugged Alora's other leg, causing Alora to laugh a little. Papa wrapped the family is his embrace. "Yelena would be so proud of you little luchik." Babushka did not join the hug, but when her eyes met Alora's, there was nothing but pride shining in her ancient face. Alora felt an unearthly shiver as a patch of cold touched her shoulder. "Yelena..." she whispered under her breath. Alora's sister was there too, giving her living sister the biggest hug ever. "Ma'am, you need to leave now..." the peacekeeper knocked on the door before entering. "One second.." Mama said, giving him a nod. Everyone let go of Alora. "Mama, make sure to make Alya and Apollo their special meals on Thursdays." Alora said, going into protective older sister mode. "Oran, make sure not to strain your back. Papa, make sure Oran doesn't strain his back. Apollo, look after Alya, and Alya keep everyone happy." Alora rushed her words, giving everyone one last hug.

"See you in 4 months." Alora said, allowing herself to be taken through the same doors that Yelena had gone through 5 years earlier. The unearthly cold followed her. Alora smiled. Yelena was always protecting her.

The young woman took the package back to her house, aware of the curious eyes the followed her down her street. She pulled her hood off her head as soon as she entered the safety of the secluded on home in the woods. Ah yes, the home that was not a home. The sanctuary that offered no protection. The prison with hidden bars. But the young woman was ready to break free from her chains.

Adrienne fumbled with the rope around her wrist. She stopped when she realized there was no rope there. The was no rope anywhere! She wasn't wake. Or was she? Adrienne's head spun. She door was open. But there wasn't a door there. "Careful Adri." she murmured, rubbing her temples until the visions stopped. She was sitting on the edge of her bed that didn't exist. Adrienne slowly stood up, aware of the nonexistent ceiling forcing her to duck. Even though the water didn't exist it still washed the dirty from Adrienne's arms. Did that mean it did exist? Adrienne forced herself to admit that she didn't know.

A simple black dress was all she had. So a black dress was what she wore. Adrienne forced her eyes to ignore the mistakes. To ignore the things that didn't exist. Maybe then they would ignore her too. But Adri knew better then that. Maybe she could use them to her advantage if she got reaped. She knew she would. The little slip of paper with her name on it screamed. But the sound wasn't real. Adrienne sighed. Maybe she wasn't real.
