XuanJi’s eyes were enough to tell Jing Yu what she was thinking, of course. After Jing Yu cut the zombie’s chest, she waved her ‘weapon’ and whacked the zombie’s head with it, then did a perfect roundhouse kick to its torso. Then she backed away, zoning out, apparently thinking about something, because Jing Yu would of course cover for her.

XuanJi nodded, she stepped in front of the zombie in a few steps, then sidestepped as the zombie reached for her, she pivoted and was now behind the zombie.

2 against one, not very fair, but this was best move to gauge how strong zombies are. XuanJi held her weapon pointed at the zombie.

Overall, the zombie was slow, but not like the slow your grandparents would have, but more like to was slowing down intentionally. XuanJi already knew that much. With Jing Yu in front of the zombie, and XuanJi behind, there wasn’t much the zombie could do to put up a fight.

XuanJi blinked as Jing Yunput an arm around her shoulder, she was about to protest but Jing Yu’s face and tone told her otherwise. She sighed and looked up, a zombie stared at them. XuanJi was taken by surprise, but held up the sharp metal torn from the frame of a notice board. “Hey, Goldfish. You scared to hurt other students?” XuanJi whispered across to Jing Yu, yes, even when they were faced by a green, disgusting zombie, she wondered if they should kill it or not, yes, she thought ‘it’.

XuanJi raised her uh, ‘weapon’ and pointed it at the zombie.

“…” XuanJi didn’t replied, she zoned out for a second then blinked rapidly. “Huh… I’d never expect you of all people to say that. What happened to ‘I shalt protect you blah blah blah?” XuanJi grinned and rushed ahead. “Let’s hurry you scaredy cat.” She beckoned him to hurry.

In truth, XuanJi honestly wasn’t afraid of death, her views on life were about what happened when you die. She has always been interested in that sort of stuff. XuanJi believes not in rumours, but in the truth, facts and things she sees with her own eyes, which makes her resistant to the fear of death.

XuanJi wasn’t your normal quiet kid, she of course, was quiet most of the time, but whenever she zoned out, she would be imagining the plan of some building’s plan, or martial parts movements when in combat. This type of ‘living through your thoughts and imaginations’ was kind of what XuanJi lived her life on.

The empty street was what XuanJi saw below her first. She crept down a metal staircase that took them from the third floor to the normal, dirt ground. “Hurry.” She muttered at Jing Yu. There was no sound or noise from Anywhere, it felt as if the school was isolated and not even a single thing could be heard. That itself, was eerie.

Through the alleyway, 3 turns… XuanJi reminded herself in her head. There were still other students to get out of the school. Maybe the zombies had already reached the third floor, after all, they needed to hurry, maybe, when they were outside right now, to find a safe house to all evacuate to. XuanJi furiously thought of a plan as she walked ahead, oblivious of the scattered bodies on the ground

To any small rustle of sound or muffled noise, XuanJi would turn her head and glare in that direction. Please, she thought hard to herself, do not zone out again.

Snarls and screams were coming from the floor below them. XuanJi beckoned to Jing Yu, “it won’t be long before they reach this floor. We need to either kill them all with the other normal pupils, or run away. We can’t hold off so many just by locking ourselves in a classroom.” Their situation was dire, there wasn’t any know whether or no the other parts of the area were infected with zombies too. They had to be careful and tread lightly.

“Shut up.” XuanJi said in response, “it’s not my fault I was zoning out. We don’t talk about how it probably is but anyway, watch out of zombies, most should be in the story below us.” XuanJi warned Jing Yu as she held her… torn off metal frame of a notice board.

“…” XuanJi silently rejected the fist bump by jumping off the desk and heading towards the door. She started dragging to chairs and tables they had blocked the door with beforehand to be able to pass through the door. XuanJi pulled aside a random student and told them to block the door only after they left, and let nobody that looked ill or zombified.

“End of this corridor, take a left, past three doors on the right and go through the staircase, there’s a small door to the right side and then go through.” XuanJi replied immediately with a grin. “Don’t you think you are underestimating me?”

XuanJi sighed, what idiotic plan was he going to suggest this time? “Nope.” She said curtly as a response. “What? Going to fight our way down?” The way Jing Yu had phrased that sentence put her off, the glint in his eyes weren’t completely foreign to XuanJi and she sighed.

XuanJi shook her head. “There’s no way I can get that wrong, I’ve memorised the campus plan ages ago.” She said, slightly annoyed. “What are we going to do then? Jump off the building?” XuanJi continued while glaring daggers at Jing Yu. “Be helpful for once or I swear you’ll be sent to the sun and back.” Whatever you do, do not anger the quiet kids, you’ll regret it.

XuanJi sat on a desk because the teacher sure wasn’t turning up, according to her calculations, the zombies should be at the second story by now.

“…” XuanJi was wordless. “Idiot.” She muttered and looked towards the window again. Zoning out, her eyes growing slightly duller than before. Then, after 10 seconds, she blinked furiously and looked at Jing Yu. “Goldfish, if we jump down, turn right twice, then through an alleyway, it’ll be the shop.” She said quietly and looked at her hands. “…” the chair leg might not be the best idea.

Sighing, XuanJi went over to a notice board and tore off its metal frame, then ‘stealing’ the duck tape Jing Yu just used, used the tape to make a handle, it was kinda sharp like a sword. She grinned. “How do we get back up here after we come back? Climbing the pipes? Or something? Smartypants?” XuanJi asked, half joking, half serious. The zombies were bound to be around the bottom few stories, and they won’t be too far from them at this point.

When they were outside, would they need to kill the zombies, but, the zombie used to be humans… XuanJi pushed the thought to the back of her head and looked at Jing Yu for a response.

Then, something clicked in her head and she brightened, the best weapon in a classroom: scissors, every classroom was bound to have some! XuanJi hurried over to some drawers and rummaged through them, she found a pair of scissors. Then, with brute force, XuanJi split the Scissors into two halves. She used some more tape to make a ‘scabbard’ for the two parts of the scissors and handed one to Jing Yu. “This should be the best weapon, right?” She smirked. “It seems that I am smarter”

XuanJi looked at Jing Yu. “Shall we go grab supplies? Everyone else stay in the class?” XuanJi said quietly, careful not to draw attention to herself.

XuanJi then walked towards a random chair, and ripped off a chair leg (aggressiveness>everything). The window would be easy to smash, but the were on the 3rd floor, they couldn’t just jump down, Jing Yu would have a plan… right?

XuanJi glanced up, then shook her head.

“We can’t it’s too dangerous. I think everyone needs to stay together here. Unless… we can go a way that no one else passes or even knows of, but… well…” XuanJi glanced at the window for a second, then turned her gaze on Jing yu. “It’s too risky.”

The noise outside was getting louder, coughing and breaking of glass. XuanJi stood up and headed for the door, closing it tight and locking it, then putting a chair and table against it.

”I don’t know about the others, but I feel like we should stay together, if we can confirm no one else in the class has it.”

XuanJi kept typing furiously.

XuanJi slipped into her chair. She took out her phone once more.

‘Big Fish, what do you think?’ XuanJi sent a message over to Jing Yu. She then scrolled through her tabs until she found the one about a disease that had happened: Covid 19.

Some people during that pandemic time had thought it wasnt serious, until lots and lots of people died due to it, that everyone started to realise the seriousness and severity. Thoughts plagued her head once more as she waited Jing Yu’s response.

“There was a lot of people coughing on the bus…” XuanJi thought back to when she had covered her mouth with her hand and how she had kept a good distance from them. “It could be true, you never know.” XuanJi muttered the last part, maybe she read too many novels.

Feeling intent gazes digging into the back of her neck, XuanJi lowered her head and made for her desk again, attention, about her most hated thing in the world.

What is a Zombie Apocalypse was actually happening? Would everyone be in danger? Would the school go on lockdown? Could this really be similar to the things she had read about: the disease-Covid 19? Her brain was filled with thoughts, unlike her normal dazes, she was just lost in thought. XuanJi soon realised that she was standing still about right in the middle of the classroom. She flinched and kept heading towards her desk, the room was totally so cold that it sent a shiver down her spine, totally, she convinced herself.

XuanJi snapped out of her daze, she blinked rapidly as her mind began remembering the strangers who had been coughing hard on the bus. She turned her head, scanning the room for Jing Yu. XuanJi walked towards him, her pace unusually fast, “Jing Yu.” She tapped him on the shoulder. Her eyes were abnormally brighter than normal, and her expression was a weird sort of uncertainty mixed with determination.

XuanJi stumbled as she came out of her daze. “Wha- Jing-?” But Jing yu had left already. XuanJi rubbed her eyes and started climbing the stairs up to the Art classroom, where everyone should be already seated. She slipped into her seat quietly and started zoning out for the third time today.

“Oh, right.” XuanJi replied softly and quickened her footsteps. XuanJi was halfway across the road before stopping still and zoning out again. Her eyes becoming unfocused once more.
