"WHAT ARE THEEESEEE!??" The bewildered scream of the student closest to the entrance was the last thing that anyone understood. Unintelligible screams overlapping each other were heard from a few students who were surprised to see dark elemental beasts roaming freely in the class.

Seeing the beasts, Samton stretched his hand. Domes of earth covered each of them, restricting their movement but not hurting them.

He turned to Thalia.

"These seem to be yours, Miss Feyrer."

"So, what do you think?" Tien whispered to Samton. The two were already back in their seats.

A light frown adorned Samton's face. Most of the students did not garner much attention from him, but he still remembered them nonetheless.

"There are a few who caught my attention. Miss Blackwood, for example. Mr. Kuffer too, although in a different way entirely."

"Sounded rather snobbish there, didn't he?"

"Well he is the child of a Margrave's vassal, if I recall correctly. Maybe he's used to the older variation of court speak."

As they whispered to each other, they ensured to stop whenever someone was speaking. It was second nature to them.

Mages And Knights

Why do so many people join the Royal Academy? The Academy is intended to train students so that they would be able to become high ranking officials within the army. Nobility join due to their obligation to the people, as well as a chance to get a better pedigree. Royalty who do not become kings become nobility as soon as their sibling takes over. The common populace, however, join because of something else.
A chance to become nobility.

The Mages and Knights higher than the rank of "Captain" are granted a barony, making them nobles.

It is perhaps also due to this possibility, that the Academy is able to maintain it's policy of non-discrimination.

Due to this, the Royal Academy is, sometimes, considered to be a miniature of the "World of Nobility". While some choose to ignore it, factions and the like very much exist. The self-introduction is, in essence, the first event where scouting occurs.

Samton picked up the fangs of the black serpent, the only bit of it still left behind, and went forward. Going on further deep, he saw a little girl, about 5 or so, crying on the forest floor.

"What brings you here, young one? It's dangerous." 'Oh crap I sound like a grandpa'
"Mama... papa... goan.... Rororo scared... Rororo mish em... bery mushh..."
After saying this much, she once again began crying. Tears rolled down her cheeks. No person with a heart would be able to leave such a child behind.

"I'll help you find them, don't worry." Samton smiled. He reached for her hand, intending to help her up.

DIE
A feeling of unease swept through Samton as he got closer. He felt as though his mind was letting out a blood curdling scream. He hesitated for a moment. Looking there once again, on the spot were the young child was, now stood a 6 ft tall humanoid blob. It seemed as though it was a mountain of poison which came alive. It reached for Samton, ready to swallow him whole. Its creepy smile from ear to ear paralyzed Samton, who fell to the ground. Its grabbed Samton's hand, opening it's mouth wide enough to swallow Samton whole. A huge bolt of extreme pain made Samton feel like his hands were being dissolved by acid. Samton fainted.

When he woke up, Principal Sparmi and Tien Sebas were standing by his side. Sparmi looked at Samton kindly and asked, "Are you alright?"

"Principal, there was this girl... but she became a thing... I have never seen anything like it... I nearly died, sir... my hands- they felt like they were gone, sir..." Samton was barely able to speak. His voice was shaky and he had terror in his eyes.

"You're fine now Samton. Nothing happened to you. Take rest for the day." Sparmi said kindly, put Samton back in bed, and went for the Staff of the Academy.
"Call all the students back. There have been far too many terrible things happening lately. We must no longer take chances."

"But still, how did a mimic...? How here...? Thank you, Spirit Spirimine, for protecting this boy of yours."

Spirimine is the name of the butterfly spirit of light. (Name origin: Spirtus Lumine (lit. light spirit))

A shapeshifter, adopted and manipulated by an evil queen, the promising young villain who wants to learn from the best, the traitorous and despicable councilmember of a kingdom at war, and the corrupted, yet misunderstood sister of a maniacal tyrant. While at first these may seem like characters in a medieval soap opera, these are the characters who have landed their creators nominations for PH Oscar's. Each of them are unique, all of them amazingly portrayed ~~to an extent~~. Here are the nominees for "Best Supporting Villain"

As Prof. Carr left, he called Samton apart. Samton nodded as he heard the professor's instructions. Walking up front, he cleared his throat and tapped the cylinder in front of him. A wind magic stone which is meant to amplify sound gave it an effect similar to a microphone, what ever that was.

"Hello everyone! Prof. Carr wishes that we introduce ourselves. My name is Samton Goldenbach. Pleased to make your acquaintance. I am a mage focusing on the Light, Earth and Water elements. I hope to get along with all of you."

With this, Samton gave a little bow and returned to his seat.

Tien followed suit. "Glad to meet you all! I am Tien Sebas, a knight majoring the art of swords. I hope the years to follow will be enjoyable."

The almost full hall stood up as they welcomed Prof Carr, the instructor-in-charge for the first year students.

"Greetings and good day to you, students! I am Carr Notbus. You may refer to me as 'Prof. Carr'. If you have any problems or wish to ask any questions, feel free to approach me. In the coming years you are to work your hardest, putting as much effort as you can into your studies. After graduation, the life to follow will not be easy. I want every single one of you to procure every bit of knowledge, experience and skill that you can from this institution, so long as you don't break any rules. The moment you step out of here, your life will be filled with hardships and risks. DO NOT LOSE TO THEM. To win then, work now. If the Academy deems you unfit, you might be kicked the very next day. If you do not want that, then work now.

"Do not cause trouble for others. Do not put yourself above anyone else.
When doom comes at you with blinding speed,
It won't mind your rank, whether a king or steed.
Treat everyone here equally. The ranks of your parents belong to your parents. The pedigree of your own is all that matters."

"So, doesn't that mean your highness is still your highness, your highness?" Tien gave Samton a nudge.
"Technically." Samton said indifferently. He was getting used to Tien continuously breaking his only request.

Prof. Carr continued his lecture, stating the different rules to be followed at the Academy. A slight kick from Samton every now and then kept Tien from breaking into a yawn. After about an hour of this, Prof. Carr picked up the book he had brought in.
"This book, a copy of which is present with every teacher, is used for recording 'incidents'. If any teacher writes anything in theirs, it will be visible to all of us. So keep to the rules.

"Finally, I'd like to inform all of you of the rank system prevalent in the Academy. Starting from Rank 'Fex', students have ranks up until 'Auno'. A special rank of 'Sulla' is granted to those who meet certain criteria. You can increase your ranks through achievements, top scores, etc. The benefits of higher ranks? Try to discover them yourself.

"With that, I will stop for the day. Use the time until the 17th hour to get to know each other better. Prof. Angler and Sir Fisch will begin your practical classes today. I hope you enjoy your time at the Academy."

"There should be no such relics within the forest. We will investigate, nonetheless. Thank you, Miss Luna. Feel free to take it easy today." With these words, Sparmi gave a smile. He announced, "The classes will begin at 8:30. Do not be late for your first day, students."

The spacious classroom furnished with wood could easily house over a hundred students. There were 10 rows, each row were divided into three columns, the ones in the middle slightly bigger than the others. Each row was a step higher than the one before, and formed a semicircular shape around the professor's podium. This was to be their common room, the classroom used when both the knight and mages were to learn together. The tables and chairs gave of a fresh and traditional feeling.

Samton was the first to enter, having arrived at 8:15. Perhaps the strict rules of the court had rubbed off on him, but he was, almost always, early. Picking a seat on the second row, Samton walked to the middle column. Setting his book down, he opened the drawer, took out the quill pen and ink provided by the academy. Along with this was the key for the drawer, which he left in there for the time being.

"Look who's here already, your highness." Tien's voice caused Samton to flinch a little.

"Does it really hurt you to not call me that."

"Perhaps. I see you already chose your seat."

"Sorry for stealing this off of you."
Samton was, not at the very least, sorry.

Tien chose the seat right next to Samton's. Putting his book down, he sat down and let out a sigh.

The Extremely Convenient Locker System

Students must already be aware that every living creature has a certain amount of magical energy in them. After it exceeds a certain level, one is able to use magic. One slightly lesser known fact is that every being has a certain magical signature, which is completely unique.

When you pick up a key for the School Lockers, that key records your own magical signature, or magisign to be short. The contents of all the lockers in the school will change depending on the magisign recorded in the key. It is also impossible to use another person's key. This locker system was developed 26 years ago by yours truly, and The Royal Palace is the only other place where this technology can be found.

"Students, after you have finished your breakfast, head to your dorms preparing for classes. Today, both the knight and mage divisions will have a combined class." Sparmi announced. Then he came towards Samton. "You may take it easy today, if you wish."

"Thank you for the offer, sir. I've gotten much better, I believe, so I will attempt to attend."

Samton took the plate from Thalia. "Thank you!" He said with a smile. After silently thanking the spirits for his food, he began to dig in.

At the time, Tien had returned with two plates in his hand. Seeing Samton with another plate already, he took the one which he brought for Samton and placed in near him. "Eat a lot and grow healthy, ok?"

"Isn't that just because you don't want to take this back out?" Samton said with a smirk.

"Luna, Yes?" Samton said as he sat up. He had almost fully recovered. "They found you in the forest, unconscious. Are you alright?"

Principal Sparmi did not enjoy the direction of the conversation in the slightest. He announced; "It is time for breakfast. Do not let today's occurrences bother you too much. Eat well."
He clapped twice, and all kinds of 'breakfast food' from around the world appeared.

Deep in the forest, Prof Angler saw a girl with icy blue hair on the ground. He raised his hand, causing the sun to shine extremely brightly upon her. He then turned to Sir Fisch. "That's Luna, indeed. Take her, please."
Sir Fisch took Luna up, and noticing she was unconscious, rushed out the forest.

Sparmi grimaced slightly. "You might be right. In fact, one cannot help but hope that you are..." He did not let his thoughts leak out. Instead, he quickly replaced the grimace with a smile. "Well, it is good that it was defeated without any loss of life. For now, the forest will be forbidden."

Prof Angler and Sir Fisch grimaced at Thalia's question. The one who replied was Sparmi.

"Mimics are dangerous beasts that copy human appearance and sound. They are smart enough to act in ways the original human(s) did not. Using this technique, they feed on other humans. They're usually not around, so you must not enter the forest again, at any cost." He looked at Samton and sighed. "Samton's main element, so to speak, is light. This is why the effects are more, well, extreme. On both himself and on the mimic. In any the case of anyone with another elemental, the mimic would slowly immobilize you, and consume you bit by bit. Pray you never meet one, Ms Feyrer."

Turning to Sir Fisch, Sparmi nodded. Sir Fisch took his weapon and, along with Prof Angler, walked into the forest, searching for lost students and the like.

"Thanks for the clean-up, Samton." Nott smied slyly.

"Must you really give me more work?" Samton said, his eyes in a glare.

"Well, neither of us have had one-tenth enough fun with the other, would you not agree?"

"Well, that is true, indeed."

"You are no Chloe, Greengrass. You're still one of us at heart."

"In spirit, perhaps. Not in goals."

"Must you really try to pretend to be fighting me?"

"Words like those will bring it out of just pretention, Nott."

"You're getting easier."

"No, just firmer."

"Your demand?"

"Safety of all third parties."

"Agreed from mine own part."

"You no longer speak for Scarlett?"

"You are aware that we split."

"Very well, you may let me know after you have discussed it with her."

With these words, Samton turned around and left for the library. Nott left for his common room, himself.

'Why is it that he is the one person I cannot deceive, even with my occlumency fully up?"

Nott did not consider the possibility that it was not legilimency, but simple deduction that lead Samton to the fact.
