It was kind of endearing to hear Goosekit call him an expert on hunting. He certainly didn't consider himself one, his large stature usually making it hard for him to move silently despite his ability to blend into the background. Hunting was best left to those fleet footed and swift enough to slink through the undergrowth and chase after fleeing prey. Still, he would entertain Goosekit's impressions and nodded very seriously not minding the volume of the kit's voice. "Squirrels, Mice, Voles." He lists before tipping his head. "Pheasants. Those are rare. And hard. Squirrels too. You're very talented if you almost caught one." Stonepelt found it much easier to talk around kits than it was around fellow warriors as words tumbled out of his mouth, praising the kit.

From the shadows of her den, Vixenheart languidly ran her tongue over her luscious coat, cleaning it as best as she could herself. An ear twitched as she caught snippets of a conversation about going out to hunt. It certainly sounded appealing with how dull life was at the moment. Even her time as a Queen was more interesting, orchestrating events to Crowflight's favour. Now that the gig was up and she was a known traitor, that thrilling sense of adventure she got every time she purposefully spat in the face of the uptight ancestors who supposedly looked over them was all but gone. With a exaggerated yawn, the she-cat uncurled herself to stretch languidly, letting her spinal disks slide back into place with a satisfying pop. Ah well, she supposed that she could settle for the boring task of making sure that no one killed themselves in some mousebrained fit of stupidity.

The poor cat jumped slightly at the voice, spinning around with eyes blown wide open. As soon as he registered who was talking to, his fur settled down somewhat and he coughed politely, somewhat embarrassed at his display. "Ah yes. I don't know how much help I can be but by all means come in." Nerves flooded him at the prospect of treating someone without Sparrowshade's guidance but he figured that this would be good practice for the future. Using his tail, Mistpaw swept a slightly dusty yet sunny patch of the den clean, inclining a grey head towards the spot as he kept his nerves at bay by quietly shifting from paw to paw. "So what seems to be the problem?"

Shaking his head, Stonepelt let a low rumble fill his chest to assure the queen that it was no problem at all. Lively kits were always a good sign for things to come and Stonepelt didn't mind a few of them running into his thick fur. It was always amusing to him when kits thought that they could knock him over anyways and he liked to humor them. Speaking of kits, the burly warrior crouched down to be more level with the energetic kit eagerly retelling his exploits. Seeing the eager glint in Goosekit's eyes as he rambled about how he almost caught the squirrel was a promising sight and he listened with rapt attention. It was quite endearing how exciting Goosekit was and he nodded along seriously to each story beat. By the time the small kit had finished his thrilling tale, Stonepelt's tail was swaying in amusement as he gently butted his head against the kit in a wordless gesture of praise.

Name: Alaparos Papadopoulos | Age: Physically 25, Well over 200

Race: Ophiotaurus Centaur | Pronouns: He/Him | Gender: Male

Appearance:
Alaparos is a large heavy set man with a sturdy build with Greek heritage. He has dark olive skin with smatterings of freckles as well as dark blond hair that reaches around mid back that is often tied up in a half pony tail framed around sea blue eyes. He occasionally wears makeup but keeps it light, limiting it to eyeliner and lipgloss. Both his ears are pierced and he has a septum CBR piercing, a plain leaf tatoo crawling up the left side of his neck. In his humanoid form, he is bound to a wheelchair and though he is capable of walking on two legs, it is quite painful and he prefers to use mobility aids to travel around. Outside of his human adjacent appearance, Alaparos takes the form of a Ophiotaurus with a double set of horns sprouting from his temples and a long serpentine tail connecting to his deer like front legs. He enjoys more feminine clothes and will often sport skirts in his humanoid form.

Personality:
Alaparos is a gentle where the others are cruel and empathetic where others couldn't give a damn. Alaparos is a gentle giant who would do anything to for those he feel close enough with, standing on the front lines not to fight but to protect the home he has made amongst the cruelty and sadism of reality. He is cheerful character bright against the drab scenery of the world, always willing to help out. He is the heart of any group he finds himself in, encouraging others and generally making the mood as cheerful and upbeat as it can be. He is very protective of creatures that are smaller than him which isn't a very high bar to set as he is easily taller than most. But sometimes he forgets that he's pretty big so he ends up bowling others over a lot. Do not be fooled, however, as he has his own brand of cruelty hidden under layers of kindness, cultivated over a lifetime of being used and lied too.

Magic:
Alaparos' magic is linked to a dog tag worn around his neck. This dog tag stores his magic and will continuously drain his magic as long as it touches his skin. Although it leaves the wearer quite tired, it allows for a great range of creativity as Alaparos is able to remotely cast magic through it. Other people can use the dog tag if they get their hands on it. One of the tag's primary functions is giving Alaparos a more humanoid body for ease of travel. You'd be surprised how hard it is to live, dragging around a 2k pound body and a 1.5 meter tail. As a member of a branch of the Ophiotaurus race, he is capable of seeing into the future but only when he is gravely injured. His race also gives him a physical edge over humans, capable of traveling much further and faster than the normal person, especially in water, with his blows packing quite the punch. Alaparos specializes in Cathonic Titan magic, his spells making him stronger as he sustains more and more damage as well as a connection towards the dead. He doesn't enjoy using his magic much however, so while it is powerful it is also volatile.

Weapons:
Dog tag magic container, Leather gauntlets

Backstory:
Despite being such a cheerful character he rarely speaks about himself.... The name Alaparos Papadopoulos seems to only have shown up on registries 5 years ago.... Right at the beginning of his education at Votum University.... Odd....

Other:
If his dog tag ever runs out of magic, then Alaparos will die
While he doesn't have a particular favourite colour, he does like pale yellows and dark greens

Perhaps it was how absurd it was to not only receive advice from a shopper, or it was just how the day was, but Miyabi only laughed. "When did you two grow a backbone enough to tell me what to do?" The store owner teased, frail hands coming up to ruffle his employee's hair. "I'll be right as rain soon enough though, don't you worry at all." Perhaps Shien simply imagined it but Miyabi's slender hands slipped under his headband to gently scratch behind one of his hidden ears, eliciting a light purr from the gifted. "Now, back to work you two. Just because shelving and cleaning is done doesn't mean that your shifts are over too." With that hearty little break, both Shien and Rowan were sent back to their posts.

Adjusting his headband again, Shien sighed and hauled the box of medical books back to the aisle he been working on before getting called over. Recalling what the customer had said before she had left, Shien made a note to try out cooking some more plant and fished based foods. He hadn't tried fermenting things yet (not for a lack of trying mind you, his whole apartment was full of unintentionally fermented foods and a perfect testing ground what with its inability to retain any heat) so he supposed that now would be a good time to try his hand at it. He could always bring the fruits of his successful experimentation to Miyabi along with the promised honey lemon iced tea. Oh, but the customer did say to limit sugar intake, right? While Shien couldn't exactly go around monitoring his boss' diet, maybe he could change the drink to just plain ol' honey lemon tea. Pleased with his idea, Shien chuffed in self approval before dutifully restocking the books. He couldn't wait until tonight to go shopping, putting his ideas into effect as soon as he could.

Listening to the woman half heartedly, Lauriam broke off as soon as he could. It was easy to identify what he was good at, steering clear of the survival stations. Living in the woods was almost a cake walk in comparison to living in the streets. With multitudes of man made diseases crawling over the dingy alleys and infesting the very waters with very little resources to use, living in the forest was almost a luxury. Finding poisonous plants was also laughably easy. He would be a sham of a flower enthusiast if he didn't know what was safe and what wasn't, having used the poisonous variety to take down those that got in his way more than once. Instead Lauriam focused on the weapons. Scythes seemed like the ideal weapon but they were too clunky and close ranged for his tastes. Long ranged weapons seemed like the best idea with him naturally gravitating to bows. But those were tricky as they required arrows to fire and years of training that Lauriam didn't have. But one thing that he definitely did have was upper arm strength from carrying around potted plants so when his glaze flickered over to the whip he immediately went over to it. The ones on display were wicked things, metal tied into the cord at different intervals and obviously made for flogging instead of the kinky ones sold at the red light district with smooth leather and flat edges. It was a weapon. Plain and simple. It certainly wouldn't kill with one hit and it was more of a torture device than an actual murder instrument but Lauriam found it to his tastes. As long as he could defend himself while keeping his distance, he would be satisfied with it.

Picking one up, Lauriam experimentally cracked it against the floor and sparks flew for a second as the smooth floor came away scratched up, deep uneven grooves dug into the metal. Letting out a low whistle, he turned to the trainer present with a feral grin. This might be a bit fun actually

Shooting out of bed with a gasp, Mika quickly threw the covers off and scrambled to the bathroom as his gut churned uncomfortably. Pale fingers gripped the edge of the sink, as he lifted his trembling eyes to stare into the mirror. The mismatched eyes of a scared teen blinked back at him and Mika hurriedly combed his hair to hide his odd golden eye. Splashing his face full of cold water, Mika gently scrubbed his face and slipped into more comfortable clothes. The dream was already beginning to slip away from his mind but one thing still nagged away at his consciousness. Dreams were something that Mika usually didn't pay any attention to but this one seemed special. Almost intentional. It sent chills down his back as he shrugged on his jacket and tucked it into his pants, brushing of any lint. The weird dream would probably haunt him throughout the day so the only real choice he had was to go down to the plaza huh. With a sigh, Mika walked out of his room. The elevators seem crowded so he took the stairs instead, humming one of Valkyrie's songs as he jogged down the many flights.
Nightmares weren't anything new to Alaparos. As a denizen of the underworld midnight horrors came with the package. Each specter had their own story to tell and none of them were happy. After all, why would anyone with a good history choose to work with the god of the underworld? Slithering out of his nest, Alapraos stretched out as each vertebrae shifted into place. One paw came up to knock against the impressive branches of his horns, shaking out anything that could have been stuck in between the bone during his sleep. Beside him, Ophiotaurus hummed in greeting. The surplice, sometime overnight, had reverted from a wheelchair back into the suit of armor that Alaparos' soul was bound to, metal as dark as the night sky yet glimmering with countless stars. It radiated a worried sort of energy, sensing their owner's distress from the vivid nightmare. Churring out a reassuring sound, Alaparos rubbed the smooth metal with his horns, the light tapping settling the undead. As the two gently groomed each other, tangled cosmo slowly unraveling under their shared touch, Alaparos let out a yawn with his jaw popping open and letting the bone hang loosely for a moment before popping it back in place. While being lazy was good and all, it would be a shame to waste the day away. As Ophiotaurus returned back into a sleek ebony wheelchair, so did Alaparos change, letting his body contort in odd ways in order to fit itself into a vaguely human shaped vessel. When that was done and over with, He began to wheel himself out. There seemed to be some commotion by the elevator and Alaparos sighed. "If you lovely folks could move, I'd be much obliged." He asked smoothly, his low baritone cutting in as he smiled serenely. He really did want to get on with his day and stairs were simply not an option for him.

These past three months have been a blur for Stonepelt, the burly cat meandering through each day as if he wasn't quite present. These days, he was stuck in a not so distant past, idly wondering where he had gone wrong. He had tried so hard to prevent the mistakes of his past and yet they still crept up on him, shoving in his muzzle the reality of his situation. He was still as powerless as he had been all those moons when Emberstar had first found him, a malnourished and scared kit who couldn't protect anything. Even with his longer than normal apprenticeship, he still lacked the power to do anything. Perhaps if he had gone with his mentor then he could have done something. If only he had made sure that Foxflame felt at home in the clans and had dissuaded him from interacting with Crowflight, perhaps things would have turned out differently. All these if only's gnawed away at his mind until something bumped into his flank. Glancing down, Stonepelt almost smiled at the sight of one of Oliveeye's three kits smiling brightly at him while another one of her kits played not to far from the nursery, Goosekit batting away at stray leaves. Perhaps unconsciously, Stonepelt had meandered towards the nursery where he spent most of his time. It was now a much quieter place, Mistpaw having moved out last moon and Pinepaw having been apprenticed a moon before her. Still, Stonepelt liked being around the kits and queens and slowly padded over to the sole visible Queen, dipping his head in greeting to Oliveeye.
There was rustling in the medicine cat den, a pelt of gray blending in with the dappled twisting thorns that were draped over the mouth of the den. Faint mumbling could be heard, paw steps following each spoken word. Scrunching his muzzle, Mistpaw listed out the properties of chervil once again, wracking his brain for the uses that he had forgotten. Roots treat bellyache, chewing the leaves.... what did chewing the leaves do again? Whatever, he could just ask Sparrowshade later. For now, he moved on, mumbling under his breath as he made small claw marks on herbs that needed to be refreshed. So far he had noted down comfrey root, honey, and stinging nettle as some herbs to retrieve more of. When they would get around to doing that would be up to Sparrowshade of course, so in the meantime Mistpaw simply busied himself by running through what he had learned, refreshing him memory. Now, what was willow bark used for again?

Those words made Jules smile and he reached over to nab a cluster of grapes for himself. While eating was hard for him, he doubted that it would ever get easier, but just eating with someone else made it much easier to put things into his stomach. How funny it is, that Jules can't bring himself to eat when surrounded by people and conversation but finds it easier to do so when doing it with only one other person. How silly, he smiled while slowly rolling a grape between his teeth. "Take your time. Like I said yesterday, Professors are more lenient the first week." He reminded, popping another grape into his mouth.

Waking up with the sun, Lauriam scowled at the black jumpsuit that lay folded up neatly by his side. It was kind of atrocious, a far cry from the usual clothes that he usually wore. With a sigh, Lauriam slipped off his tank top and began to dress for the day. Glancing at himself in the mirror, he scowled at his reflection but stubbornly turned away to tie up his hair. It had been trimmed the day before so it wasn't as thick as it normally was, but it still managed to snap the first hair tie that he tried to put around his messy locks. Sighing, the tried again, this time managing to wrangle his dyed mane into a somewhat presentable mess. Slipping everything on, Lauriam took one last look in the mirror. True to it's nature, the outfit hugged his form closely and he let out a sigh for it. Opening the door to his room, he glanced over to check on his roommates. The other roommate was no where to be seen but Harmony still seemed to be asleep. Letting out a sigh, Lauriam could only think about how routine it all felt, knocking on Harmony's door. "If you want breakfast, you should wake up soon." He called and for a moment, he could maybe fool himself into thinking that he was telling this to his sister rather than someone who he would use.

"Bright and early." He promised, smiling warmly. "Rest well and sweet dreams." With that farewell and a wave, Lauriam ducked back into his room letting one hand run over the lilies on his desk. That was another contact potentially secured. Two of the 24 tributes though he wasn't sure if the plain looking boy he had struck a conversation with at the reaping counted. He couldn't think of any uses for the two contacts he had at his disposal, the capital operating on a much more different set of rules than what he was used to. Lauriam wasn't a fan of using people, knowing that relying on others would only increase margins of errors with his plans, but he also knew that he had to use what he had available. He was fundamentally at a disadvantage with a big name player in the mix along with other tributes that were already starting to form alliances. Letting out a breath, he gently slipped into bed letting his mind relax away from the threat of the arena. Inevitably it wandered to Strelizia and Lauriam had to wonder how his sister was doing. Was she alright? Did she get home safely? Was Auntie taking care of her? These were the thoughts running through his head as he closed his eyes, knowing that sleep wouldn't come for him. Not while he rested in the lap of luxury, an unfamiliar feeling compared to the modest way of living he was used to.

He was about to reply before the words were caught in his throat. Lauriam. The girl had called him Lauriam. It was as if a backpack of bricks that he didn't know he was carrying had been taken off his shoulders as he gave Harmony an easy smile. "Whoa whoa, I don't bite I promise." He chuckled, holding up his hands in mock surrender. "It's all good and it's kinda my bad too. It's a pleasure to meet you Harmony. I hope we get along." and I hope you prove yourself useful went unsaid though his smile was as charming as ever.

At first glance, the person behind the cashier looked to be a woman, decked out in a traditional outfit with pink shades everywhere. Even tucked into fiery red hair was a floral hair clip with wisteria flowers dangling from it, giving the person a dainty appearance. But once the person opened his mouth, it became clear that he was indeed a man, albeit a more androgynous looking one with a soft lilting voice. "Good morning! You're in luck, that book just came in this morning so it's probably being shelved right now!" Miyabi chirped, giving his best smile. Although he looked pale and a bit sickly, as if he was going to fall over at any moment but his smile was still dazzling and eyes bright with life. "Just a sec, okay? Shien, bring the medical books over here, please?" The last sentence was bellowed out, a surprising sound coming out from such a frail looking man. There was a moment of tense silence as Miyabi typed away at the computer drawing up the price of the text book as the pair waited for Shien to appear. It didn't take long as soon Shien popped his head out like an eager puppy, holding a heavy looking box in his hands.

"You called?" He asked, setting the box on the counter. Noticing the customer, he gave a wave and opened up the box, understanding the situation from that glance alone. "Which book are we looking for today?"

"First Aid: Step One (USMLE Edition). Should be near the bottom." Miyabi relayed coughing lightly as he took a swig of water.

Nodding, Shien began to root through the box. "You really shouldn't yell like that anymore. Who knows what will happen if you continue to strain it. Your immune system is weak enough so take care of yourself. I'll bring over more honey lemon ice tea the next time we're on the clock." He scolded lightly, having worked with Miyabi for so many years that it felt natural to worry for his boss. While Miyabi simply chuckled sheepishly, the conversation repeated over the years, Shien made a small sound of victory as he pulled out a brand new copy of Josephine's desired book. "Here you go, ma'am! Is this the book you're looking for?" Handing the book over with both hands, Shien looked like a dog expecting some kind of praise from his master. He was thankful that his tail was carefully tucked into his baggy pants, the thick and loose fabric hiding the fact that his tail was indeed wagging slightly.

Someone hit the door frame and Lauriam rolled over with a grumble. In doing so, he had a line of sight to whoever it was. Cracking an eye open, he could only make out a black haired girl. Ah, she was the one that he shared a chariot with wasn't it. Well it wouldn't hurt to try and use her, would it. She didn't seem like much of a threat so he slowly sat up as if just waking up from sleep. "Wha-" he muttered, faking bleariness. Blinking a few times, he allowed his eyes to adjust as he faintly thanked his past self for remembering to put on a tank top, covering up what he didn't want others to see. "Need any help?" he asked, getting out of bed. Ugh, the mattress was way too soft so even if he wanted to he couldn't get used to the extravagant shows of luxury thrown his way. He hoped that his half-asleep act could at least get whoever this girl was to open up to him a bit more. It had worked with Strelizia so it was worth a shot.

Idle humming filled the empty apartment as sunlight streamed through the open curtain. The radio was on, broadcasting the latest news about the disappearance of the Gifteds with numbers only going higher and higher. The room itself was quite messy, run down walls with water damage and not enough insulation framing the dingy apartment with peeling wallpaper. There stood a row of plants by the widow sill, soaking up the light as a clawed hand reached over to pluck rosemary from the ledge garden, sprinkling it into a bubbling pot. The room wasn't very big, just large enough to fit a small table with two chairs crammed in to make room for the multiple shelves lining the walls. Most were filled with fashion magazines and containers containing makeup and cosmetics but a few thick cookbooks broke up the pattern occasionally, shoved in without a care in the world. There was one particular container with fuzzy fabric poking out of it right next to a container full of eye shadow pallets, the contents of these shelves pointing to two young girls living in the apartment. Three doors present, one leading to outside and the others led to presumably bedrooms. Connecting to the living space was a messy kitchen, pots bubbling away on the old stove as a young man stood before it, consulting a cookbook while adding in carrots to a stock pot. His back hair was tied up in a low pony tail and he wore a light crop top and shorts as he danced around the kitchen to pick and drop ingredients as he wished. A soft beep barely heard over the bubbling had a pair of adorably cute jackal ears stand to attention as Shien drifted over to the rice cooker, all while humming under his breath. As he ladled out rice into a container, the radio sitting innocuously on the counter continued to blare out the morning news. "recently went missing this week. With -bttz- about 71 Gifted's have gone missing these past few months. Police have -bttz- unfortunately, they have-" A clawed finger tapped the top of the old radio as it fizzled in and out of focus, the reporters voice breaking up. Sighing, Shien finished ladling the rice into his container and moving onto the curry cooking on the burner.

Among those numbers was his roommate, one gifted among the 71 missing. If he was being pedantic though, he knew of three gifted who were missing. One was a regular customer from his job at the bookstore and another was an acquaintance he would see sometimes when he was out running. Both had been missing for some time and Shien was starting to worry. Kaoru, his roommate, has been missing for about a week now and with his growing awareness of disappearing gifteds, he was starting to notice other people in his lives that were missing. Switching radio stations to hopefully change the glum atmosphere clogging up the small apartment, Shien began to hum along to the incoming song as he prepared lunch for later, stirring the curry pot as he sipped on his morning tea. Decaffeinated of course. With his lunch cooked and breakfast eaten, Shien ladled the curry into the container full of rice before closing it up and packing away any extras for dinner. Opening the door closest to him, Shien stepped into his room. It was always kept nice and dark so he could be himself without any eyes on him, sensitive eyes adjusting the moment he stepped into the room. It was a quick and mundane event, changing into his work attire paying careful attention to slide fabric over his inhuman traits. Remembering how the news spoke of the rise in gifted disappearances, Shien slipped on a headband that pinned back his ears. Wincing at how it pinched the delicate skin, the gifted glanced at himself in the mirror. There wasn't much he could do about his teeth and he was way too poor to afford colored contacts so the thin wire framed glasses were the only things on his person that he could use to hide his eyes. All things considered, he looked like a normal human, given that someone didn't look too closely or didn't sweep back his hair and find his distinct lack of human ears. Slipping in some extra pins to keep his bangs and side fringes in place, Shien patted down his pockets to make sure he hand everything and grabbed his messenger bag. Packing away his lunch, Shien cast one last glance over the now quiet apartment, Kaoru's mess untouched. The specific shelf that Kaoru had insisted they have to store his ridiculous collection of nailpolish was almost spilling over with the amount of bottles shoved in, was slowly gathering dust and it saddened him. Maybe he should clean up that corner when Kaoru returned, it would be a nice little welcome home gift. With that in mind, Shien locked the door behind him and began his daily commute to work.

Today he had a shift at The Flower Garden, a local bookstore-slash-cafe with a ancient forest like theme to it, requiring each staff member to wear more traditional garbs to add to the mysterious atmosphere. It was co-run by a gifted by the name of Miyabi and his partner (in business or in love, Shien still wasn't really sure) Tenma. It was a cozy and warm environment and Shien liked working there, mostly because families would drop by frequently with children in tow and Shien would have tons of opportunities to read to them. Unlocking the back door to the book store, Shien called out his greetings to the employees already present as he hung up his bag. Adjusting his headband to make sure that his ears were firmly pressed down and hidden, Shien almost missed the jab at his missing ears today, the sound muffled through his thick hair. "I just forgot to wash them yesterday so their drying right now." Shien lied easily waving off his co-workers amazement that he was seen without his "fake ears" for once. Clocking in, Shien got ready to work, quickly checking the day's rotation. He was on floor duty so he made his gloves were securely fastened before heading out. Another mundane day, another day worth living. Putting on his best smile, he greeted Miyabi who was working behind the register, tallying up the day's profit, before getting to work. First order of business, re-shelving the new arrivals. Dipping into the backroom, Shien effortlessly picked up the boxes containing the new arrivals and totted them to the front. Humming along to the soothing jazzy lo-fi that played over the system, he hunkered down and began to unbox the new books, placing them on the correct shelves.

The moment he was allowed to, Lauriam harshly yanked his boots off tugging his garters along with them. He was the first to arrive in his room so who he was sharing it with he didn't know and didn't care. With a flick of his wrist the lilies nestled in his hair tumbled out and Lauiram scooped them up. They were beautiful, much more than what he could ever grow back home. The meanings of them though, they made bile rise in his throat and Lauriam had to push it down as to not hurl a second time that day. Purity, Joy, Life, Celebration, the white Casablanca's and Madonna's mocked him with their cheery meanings of things that would never apply to Lauriam. While he was temped to crush the cruel white petals in his hands, he instead dumped them on the bedside table. Fine. If the capital wanted to make light of his impeding doom, then he'd give them what they wanted. A lily per day, pinned over his heart until the white petals were dyed red. Stripping out of the atrocious costume, Lauriam didn't bother with any bed time routine and went straight to bed wearing only his underwear. Closing his eyes, he pretended to be asleep all while keeping an ear out for his roommates. He'd only drift off when he confirmed who it was he'd be rooming with and if they were a threat or not.

[ name ] Kageyama Shien
[ gender ] Male
[ age ] 23
[ gift ] Beastman
The Kageyama family's hereditary gift. Qualities of an animal is bestowed upon each family member at birth and Shien acquired the traits of a jackal. This includes a set of black jackal ears atop his head and a bushy tail, but also sharpened teeth as well as clawed feet and hands. Shien also sheds, the fur patches around his neck, back of hands, and feet as well as his hair regular being replaced. If someone were to ignore all the evident signs, the presence of amber cat-like eyes are sure to tip anyone off about his status as a gifted. Physical appearances aside, Shien has a heightened sense of smell, sharp ears, and excellent eyesight which far surpass any humans. They are quite sensitive, however, so strong smells, loud noises, or bright lights can stun him. His muscles are also denser, allowing for more speed and power with every action that Shien does. With his tail, he not only has an extra appendage to use, his sense of balance is also heightened. While he does have an affinity for raw meat and the thrill of a chase and the satisfaction of a hunt, he mostly keeps these instincts in check.

[ appearance ] Shien is a young man with fair skin. He claims to be 176 cm (5'7) but no one's really sure if he's counting his ears (spoiler alert: he is). He keeps his black hair neatly groomed at all times, almost always tying it back into a small ponytail and letting his white fringes frame his face, black jackal ears blending in seamlessly with his hair. He keeps his striking yellow cat-like eyes framed with non-prescription eyeglasses in an attempt to make himself look more approachable. He is always seen wearing thick gloves and boots to hide his claws, tail usually tucked within his pants. He likes to keep his more beastly appearance under wraps, wearing clothes that hide the patches of fur around his body as best as he can. Although he usually wears formal, traditional clothes, he does enjoy wearing more revealing clothes when in private.

[ personality ] To put it plainly, Shien is a child in the body of a 23 year old adult. Sometimes he can be quite dumb and naive, baby-like, even. While he has is very knowledgeable when it comes to actually living, sometimes he makes decisions that leave people reeling and wondering what goes on in his head. It's very easy to trick and prank him, his easy trust often leading to his friends wondering how he's even survived to this point. Despite having extraordinary oratory abilities, he often misuses his handsome voice that lead to some hilarious misunderstandings. Other times, he just uses his voice for over the top reactions, often being dramatic just for laughs. Against all odds, while having superhuman senses, Shien doesn't seem to hear people's words the first time they're spoken. He adores cute things such as stuffed animals and sweets, gravitating to more stereotypical feminine things. Outwardly, he acts more like a husky than he does a jackal. For all his flaws, however, he is an extremely kind and doting person. He treasures his friends dearly and often takes care of them like a mother. He has a wealth of knowledge stemming from his unprivileged upbringing and is extremely compassionate and understanding to those in less fortunate positions. Due to his Jackal traits, Shien can be quick to anger, though his anger is more of a quiet fury than an explosive rage. He doesn't quite understand what it means to be human and often acts more like a jackal, getting very territorial over what is "his" and communicating in loud yell or yap, growls and high pitched howls when distracted, distressed, or threatened. He gets quite insecure about his gifted status however, and does his best to steer conversations away from them. This is reflected in his insistence that his gifted traits are just him being eccentric and dressing up, all of them fake replicas.

[ history ] Born on a cold winter's day, with a ratty blanket to keep him warm and the frigid air to keep him company, Shien was born into a life of poverty. The Kageyama family had been persecuted to the point of homelessness because of their hereditary gift, the physical manifestations a flashing neon target painted on the family's back. It was difficult for the family, and though discrimination was no longer a factor thanks to their fellow gifted's efforts, they still were stuck in financial poverty. With Shien's parents working various jobs, Shien learned to survive on the streets through violence and the edge that having jackal traits gave him. Although he was a shy kid, often mumbling and tucking his tail between his legs, he quickly learned that he had an advantage over other street kids. He was gifted, they weren't. He quickly got into the habit of fighting his way to the top of the dingy food chain, throwing himself into brawls each day to ensure his family's safety and continued way of living. He was eventually found out by his family and was begged to stop. But by that time, Shien had already made too many enemies and some particularly spiteful humans came around one day to harass the family. Although the police were called and the perpetrators were caught, it still left its mark on the young Shien as he say both of his parents were sent to the hospital for extensive wounds. Deciding to shape up, Shien began throwing himself into work, trying out all kinds of jobs. From delivery boy to receptionist, daycare worker to babysitter, Shien tried every job he could and began to learn a few things. One) The world, despite having laws against it, still favored humans instead of gifted. Two) Being himself would close more doors than it would if he shoved all his jackal like tendencies into a box and acted as human as he could. Three) Life was cruel and indiscriminate. With these lessons under his belt and his parent's warnings in mind, Shien began to hide his status as a gifted as best as he could, using the fact that he was born homeless to forge documents stating that he was human. With this new identity, Shien began to live life stealth, his status as gifted only known to his parents as well as his roommate who too was gifted. After learning that he had impressive oratory abilities, he began to do voice work but as it was inconsistent work at best, he also began to work part time. Life was good for Shien until one day his roomate went missing and Shien began to hear the rumors of disappearing gifted.

[ other ] Extremely weak to alcohol and caffeine. Please never give him any
He has a habit of taking in strays and so far has adopted three stray cats, Nekoyama, Koyama, and Nakayama
He works part time as a chef, waiter, and as a book store employer, often putting his soothing voice to use by reading to kids or placating difficult customers.

Ah, those words dug deep into Jules, understanding the feeling well enough. "Trust me, I know the feeling." He chuckled though he wished that he didn't have to say that. It hurt enough to know that other young kids were going through childhoods that would scar them but to also find someone else with his own experiences hurt even more. "My parent's aren't the best either and I didn't have an exactly good childhood. I had to do everything myself too and I still struggle with telling people about it. It's a long road to feeling like you are comfortable about talking about it but I'm glad you're taking that first step." Taking out a handkerchief, Jules passed it over before giving her a wide smile. Yes it hurt, but it also felt good to see someone else start their journey to a better future.

Lauriam didn't know what to do, uneasy at the prospect of being paraded around like a slab of meat. Each rattle and bump of the carriage agitated his already tender feet and he hid a grimace under a shaky smile, keeping his eyes mostly forward. He had pressed himself into the side of the carriage, unwilling to stand too close to the girl in revealing clothes. or at least thats what he hoped it looked like. In all honesty, he was just using the side to help prop himself up, legs way too tired to even consider balancing on the death traps strapped to his feet. How do normal girls even do this? By the time the carriage stopped before Snow, Lauriam was already seething with rage and was close to just getting off the damn thing and strangling for giving the order to put him in the atrocious outfit. Gritting his teeth, Lauriam bore through the extremely boring speech all while cursing the president out in his head.

"And it's not your fault. You're just a kid, a very smart, caring, and amazing kid. It should never be a kid's job to worry about their parents, kids are supposed to learn and fail and get back up again. Kids are supposed to be free to do what they want, to explore themselves, not look after their parents. It's okay to not know what to do. Hell, I'd be worried if you did. You shouldn't have these worries and the universe has wronged you by giving them to you." Jules sighed, keeping the hurt out of his voice. Things like these were delicate matters, an experience that he would wish upon no one. "It's okay to rely on adults for these things. No matter what happens, you're not alone anymore. You have me, you have the professors, you have your house. I'm very honored that you would trust me enough to tell me these kinds of things and if you don't want me to tell anyone else, I will respect that and it will be our secret. But whenever you're ready and if you ever need any help, please never hesitate to ask anyone. Hogwarts is a safe place for outsiders like us."
