Nearly tripping when the door he had expected to nudge with his foot suddenly disappeared, he quickly righted himself before he could stumble. Well it was partly his fault anyways so he couldn't get mad as he craned his neck to see who it was that he would be talking to. It seemed like someone he didn't know quite well and he gave her a thin smile. "Every Heart a Doorway by Sean McGuire." He said lightly, adjusting his grip on the stack of books once again. "It's quite a riveting read though I'm sure that some of the other books in this stack are just as interesting." He paused when he saw that the other had her arms full with a box and immediately felt a bit bad for her, having to carry something that large probably not of her own volition.

Swallowing his suddenly parched throat, Alaparos submitted to his more baser instincts by ducking his head, exposing his neck in a meek display of submission. He didn't dare meet eyes with the taller (slightly taller than his true form he noted absently) while replying. "If you seek the university, it is past this forest." He replied, voice steady despite the shaking of his hands. "I'm not strong enough to cast anything as grand as a disruption spell nor am I knowledgeable enough to act as an institution of knowledge." While he was sure that he could take the summoner on in a battle, he was keenly aware that right now he was at a disadvantage in regards to combat. The twisting forest proved to be a hindrance to his mobility, wheelchair much to clunky to smoothly maneuver between trees not to mention that he was simply outclassed in his human disguise despite his magic specialties. But with the dissipation of the summoned soul, Alaparos' shoulders did loosen though his heart did yearn for that familiar presence of death once again. If he was more sound of mind, perhaps he would have laughed at the fact that before him was a serpentfolk while behind him was a sea-goat, the perfect combination to create himself, an Ophiotaurus centaur.

Now that the aroma of death had receded, Alaparos' eyes flickered to take in the full visage of Vale letting himself examine the snakefolk in his terrifying glory. The sight of a recently eaten meal oddly comforted him. It meant that the other wasn't in top shape and was most likely lethargic after a filling meal. He and the others who were gathered would most likely not be a target for a hungry predator. Or at least that's what he hoped dearly. He had been wrong on occasion before.

He smiled softly, welcoming the girl into the conversation. His grip on the blanket thrown around his shoulders was still knuckle white but he had more or less schooled his expression into a kind one that bleed warmth and hospitality. There was nothing worse than being shunned from a conversation and he did his best to involve everyone fairly. The newcomer had more information than anyone had combined, providing not only a name for their mysterious caller but also shedding more insight into the nature of their shared dream. He opened his mouth to thank her but a full body shiver that he couldn't hope to mask ran through his spine. Accompanying it was a nostalgic scent that ran within his own magic, one that Alaparos was uncomfortably familiar with. Death, and those who lingered beyond the grave. "It appears that we may have more guests." He murmured, and suddenly his warm clothes didn't seem all that warm anymore. The smell of death didn't bother him but its familiarity did. It was almost like unlocking the door to a house before inhaling the comforting stench of the underworld. He wondered when he had become so accustomed to such dark things as he looked over his shoulder. Faintly he could see a green glow that gently floated towards him. A stray spirit? It wasn't that far fetched as he carefully extracted himself from the circle. Rolling towards the floating green ball, he tilted his head as he observed it. It didn't seem sad at all so it couldn't be a lingering spirit. In fact, it didn't really seem to have much emotions to it and he felt another chill ran down his spine. Despite it being one of his two specialties, death magic really did creep him out.

But perhaps what really unnerved Alaparos the most was the fact that beyond the trees, he could see someone. Perhaps it was the summoner of the stray spirit but bracketed around the hollow trees of this forest, it seemed much more larger than life. One thing was for sure though. Whoever it was, they were almost if not taller than his true form. And that was saying a lot.

Elliot had set his books down for a quick break when voices behind him rang out, accusing him of blocking the way. Whipping his head around, he shot an insulted glare at an unfamiliar face and... what was her name again.... It was a royal sounding one. Unable to think of it on the spot, he simply scoffed and picked up his stack of books again. "I highly doubt that you couldn't move around me. I was not, as you kindly put it, standing directly in the middle of the staircase." He said primly, but complied by shuffling close to the wall with more than enough space for someone else to move past him. Stubbornly shuffling the books in his arms, he continued up the stairs. Perhaps one of the reasons why he was so slow, however, was because the top-most book on the stack was open and he was actually reading as he went. To anyone else it would have been quite a dangerous feat but for Elliot it was an almost daily occurrence and he had by now perfected the art of walking while reading.

Nodding his thanks, Elliot ducked into the school proper. But instead of going to his class, he headed straight for the library. Opening the door, Elliot looked this way and that before waving to the librarian. "Apologies for entering so early but may I request to look at the new arrivals over the summer?" He asked, taking out a pair of thick framed glasses from their case within his hoodie pocket. It was almost a ritual at this point to pop into the library to pick out some new books each day to read, combing through them like a starving man. As he browsed the catalogue, Elliot chanced a glance outside the window towards the courtyard again. Familiar and not so familiar faces strode past the glass and he sighed, picking up the stack of books that he had selected. Saying his thanks, Elliot carefully nudged opened the library door with his foot and began the walk towards his new classroom. He couldn't quite see over the top of his stack, not quite gifted in the height department and carrying a frankly absurd amount of books, but he managed to make it to the stairs without any trouble. Now the real challenge would be getting up the accursed steps safely.

The release of such a heavy pool of magic made Alaparos' shoulders relax visibly, the iron grip he had on his blanket loosening. Around his neck his dog tag hummed with tension, the warm metal heavy against his chest. It was almost like the forest itself was alive and while Alaparos had long since learned and accepted that he walked amongst an ecosystem brimming with life, it almost felt other-worldly how the trees listened to their every word. But now that the magic had abated, Alaparos could still feel a set of eyes on him. "It's a honor to make acquaintances of all of you. However, if I may interject and invite another voice into the conversation? It appears that we have a listener within these forests and perhaps they have more insight into the situation than we do seeing as our memories of such a dream is hazy." He suggested, hands already wheeling himself backwards to make more room in their little circle. Although he had said that there was another person around, Alaparos himself wasn't all that sure of his observation. He could only hope that he wasn't wrong as he scanned the trees. There didn't seem to be anyone there and dread pooled at the bottom of his stomach at making an incorrect guess before an odd shape caught his eye. Two jutting horns similar to one of his own pairs that could easily been mistaken for tree branches could be spotted and Alaparos tried for his best gentle smile.

While he didn't want to chase away the newcomer, he did want to continue the conversation. For what reason were they gathered here? If someone had called them here, it stood to reason that something was at stake. After all, an elf was among them and to call upon such illustrious creatures was quite the feat. Ether the caller was powerful enough to sway even mythical creatures with centuries of pride and history, or things were just that dire. But Alaparos then had to wonder why he was called. He wasn't anyone special, not that he knew of. Sure the Ophiotaurus race was rare and renowned for their powers of foresight and clairvoyance but that was only when slaughtering one and taking a peek at their entrails. There was a reason why such creatures were rare now-a-days and Alaparos couldn't suppress the shiver that went through his body. Was his only purpose being called here was to die so that others could read the future? While he didn't like to think of such situations, it was an undeniable possibility. Suddenly his dog tag felt much heavier and he had to force himself to calm down. As far as the others could tell, he was just a human with a physical disability. Nothing more, nothing less. He wasn't in any large danger now until whoever called them reared their head.

Letting his shoulders drop in a sigh, Elliot ran a hand over his face. And this was exactly why he preferred the company of books over troublesome people. While he wasn't that uptight like the rest of his family about who he associated with what with the more outdated views that belonged firmly in the past, Elliot still liked to think he surrounded himself with respectable people. But of course he attracted the oddballs and the troublemakers because whatever higher powers present was out to make his life specifically as unpleasant as it could be. But that being said, brats who were a handful were Elliot's specialty anyways and Eon was slowly growing onto him (hard not to when you spent time with the other. He just had the type of personality that would have others let their guard down around). "Well, keep that competitiveness of yours in check off the court and I'm sure there won't be any need for any police investigations." He noted lightly.

Ah yes, this song and dance again. The other had said the same thing last year and yet had still enlisted in Elliot's aid. At least some things didn't change and Elliot good-naturally bumped the other with his shoulder. "Hmh, and I have a feeling that I won't step into the library at all this term." He quipped back, entirely sarcastic. If there was one thing about Elliot that shone brighter than his last name, it would be his borderline obsession with books (or perhaps was the fact that he was one of the few student tutors available), the library serving as a second place of residence for him. "Aside from that, was it not your gut that landed you in trouble last year?" But if it was one thing Elliot couldn't quite refute it was Eon's assessment of the year. After all, a good year just meant him getting through school without any large incidents occurring. A simple requirement all around.

Perhaps it was his connection to life and premonitions but Alaparos gently shivered as the forest voiced it's displeasure, wrapping his shawl tighter around himself. The winds that used to be so light and refreshing suddenly weighed down heavily on his shoulders and he shot a bewildered look to the others present. Did they not feel the sudden surge of danger lingering among the dense trees? The three other creatures gathered... Or was it four? A part of Alaparos pricked at the sensation of being observed but he pushed that feeling aside and chalked it up to simply the heavy influx of magic. Tuning back to the conversation, Alaparos smiled a bit guiltily. "I freely admit that I rarely remember my dreams, this one included. All I can remember is an abrasive voice and a burning of a university." He shared, spreading all his cards out on the table. It appeared that all of them had been gathered for the same reason and it would be foolhardy to conceal anything that may be of use. After a pause, however, Alaparos let out a chuckle when he realized that Hokori had introduced himself multiple times yet he himself had yet to even state his name. "Ah, apologies I have yet to introduce myself. I am officially known as Alaparos Papadopoulos but you may simply call me Al." There was a small nagging feeling in him whenever he introduced himself that his name should be longer, that there was more to add, but whenever he tried to think of what possibly could be missing all the greeted him was a headache and no answers. It was all commonplace by now and Alaparos was able to ignore his instincts for now and focus on the conversation at hand.

Elliot wasn't sure if the version he knew about how Eon lost his arm was the right one either to be frank. The amount of rumors surrounding such subjects were almost absurd and Elliot simply didn't bother himself with it. Why chase baseless conjuncture when written facts were just a book away? Taking a glace down to see that the aforementioned student had removed his arm just to shake hands, Elliot rolled his eyes at the act but couldn't keep the amused smile from tugging on his face. "It's good to be back." He admitted, firmly shaking the prosthetic, enough to almost pull the arm from Eon's grasp. "If you ever need any assistance with studying, you know where to find me."

Someone was talking to him. He couldn't be bothered to look over his shoulder but he was raised in a family of relatively high social standing and manners were drilled into him since brith. Not replying would be rude and there were few things that Elliot hated more than being rude. Halfheartedly shrugging he adjusted his backpack to sit more comfortably on his shoulders. "Homework. Familial duties. Nothing out of the ordinary." He said stiffly. Taking a few more steps and breaking out of the throng of students gathered at the courtyard, he finally had the space to turn around and see who he had been talking to. His eyes immediately fell towards the prosthetic arm and a name popped into mind immediately. After all, there weren't many students with physical disabilities. "I assume your summer was more thrilling than mine, Eon?"

The sun was bright, the birds were chirping, and Elliot hated this. The trek to school was never fun and he despised the uphill climb that he had to take on his way to school. It was painful and it was sweaty and Elliot hated all of that. While he understood why his mother couldn't drive him, it still sucked to walk to school. It wasn't a short one either as Elliot was forced to get up at way-too-early o'clock in the morning to make it to school on time. Well if there was one thing that the long walk had was time. And Elliot would use this time wisely by cracking open a book. A perfect.plan. nothing could ever go wrong.

And for a while nothing did. It was just another walk up the sloping hill towards school. The only eventful action was him complaining about the heat, his usual combo of a jacket and hhoodie a deathtrap in these situations. It took another good hour and the completion of his latest book before Elliot finally reached school grounds. It was lound, sound dog basketball being played a d students catching up on what they had done. It was familiar but Elliot didn't feel inclined to join in the pleasantries. It wasn't like he had any friends to talk with anyways. With that thought in mind, he began to cut through the sea of students, apologizing every time he bumped into someone, but steadily making his way through the courtyard and into the school.

A voice? That phrase sparked something in Alaparos' mind and he couldn't shake it off. But for now he could place his own problems aside and address the more pressing one. "I simply frequent this forest and am this a patron of it. While my own magic is diverse and flexible, Telepathy is regrettably not one of my skills." He explained himself, nimble fingerings coming up to fiddle with the chain of his tag. Could he be a telepath? There was much that he didn't know about himself despite existing for some time now, and the skills that he had picked up leaned more into the practical rather than the magical. Perhaps he was capable of such feats but Alaparos greatly doubted that possibility. His magic simply didn't feel like it could take such incorporeal and abstract forms. It was much too wild for that. As the elf knelt down before the scarecrow, questioning her on the nature of her dreams, Alaparos too began to think.

He didn't remember dreams easily. That was just how he was, the wild adventures his mind conjured up during the night evaporating in the morning light. But if he thought, pushing past the foggy state his mind seemed to perpetually be in, he could remember a voice. It wasn't a kind voice per say, abrasive and quick to anger, but it also instilled within Alaparos a sense of trust. Shaking his head clear to draw himself out of his own mind, Alaparos cleared his throat to bring attention to himself. "If I may interject, did this voice.... Talk about the burning if Inanis University?" He ventured. Alaparos doubted that it would be, after all why would three people have the same weird dream, but with the way things were heading he wouldn't put it past fate to make such fickle decisions for their own entertainment

Rolling up to the entrance of the library, Alaparos had to pause. The sign hanging from the front declared the space closed for the day. Structural repairs and repairing old water damage apparently. Raising a confused eyebrow, Alaparos dug out his phone from within the bag to check if he had been notified about this. He came up empty and spent a few minutes perplexed before it hit him. He wasn't a student anymore so he wouldn't get notifications like these anymore. With a mournful sigh, he contemplated why he had ever chosen to graduate early, loosing such helpful perks, when he could have spent more time studying for his Masters while working on his papers. Oh well there was no point in crying over spilled milk and Alaparos decided to use his time more wisely by pushing himself towards the forest. He was infinitely thankful that he had recently customized his KSL wheels as a gift to himself after graduation as he popped onto his back wheels to navigate through the dense forest. His old wheels definitely couldn't handle rolling over thick roots and the varied terrain that made up the forest floor.

For all the time he had spent lingering by the area in his university days, Alaparos had never actually traversed into the dense area. He felt more of a pull towards the sea and open spaces, his Ophiotaurus blood singing with joy whenever he sliced through still waters, a body that was obtuse and unwieldy on land a graceful stream of muscle and elegance. But here in this forest, the only sounds being the rustling of leaves and his wheelchair's wheels, Alaparos felt like he could breath easier as he traversed within the thick layer of magic surrounding the place. It just felt right somehow. Closing his eyes, he let himself bask in the feeling for a moment, letting the peace of the place wash over him. It was rare that he could find himself so unguarded on land and Alaparos wanted the moment to last. Too bad it was cut short when two voices rose above the swaying branches. While his human ears were much more weak than the ones he usually sported, they were still sharp and Alaparos could catch wind of snippets of a conversation. It didn't seem like anything pressing so he reached for his wheels planing on returning back to his apartment when he froze. "Children your age should absolutely not wander around these parts" came a haughty tone, worry spiking within Alaparos' chest. Forests certainly weren't a place for everyone but especially not for young children. With his bleeding heart leading the way, Alaparos forged on making sure to keep an ear out for the voices and directing himself based on the voices. He was almost there when the second voice declared that they weren't a child at all and some of that worry abated. But still, Alaparos had made it this far it would be slightly impractical of him to turn back now. Turning a bend, he stumbled across the owner of the the voices. The first was easy to identify if only by the rigid posture and characteristic pointed ears but the other was quite odd. If the other wasn't an elf, known for their immense pride and proprietary Alaparos would have thought the other to be crazy to have a scarecrow as a conversation partner but as it stood he let his first impressions lie and spoke to the two of them.

"Now now, let's not raise our voices. There may be other patrons wandering the forests and it would be a shame to disturb their walks." Alaparos placated, making his presence known as he rolled forward closer to the two. "That aside, arguing will do none of you any good. What say we calm ourselves and approach this with a level head?"

With the morning's coffee running through his veins and a squished bagel eaten, Alaparaos had enough energy for his mental processes to kick in again as he let the familiar torrential waters and smooth stones that consisted of his magic roll over him. Fresh rainfall and petrichor wafted through the small apartment as the spell seeped deep into Alaparos' bones. It didn't hurt. Not anymore. Years of having your bones forcefully fused together and bent in ways they simply weren't supposed to in order to make room for foreign organs got old really fast. But if there was something that Alaparos disliked about the whole process would be the consistent headache that raged on as his four horns fused with the bone of his skull. A voice that was foreign and nostalgic at the same time laughed at him for that, calling him a thick skulled idiot affectionately and Alaparos couldn't really argue with that. It was a silent process, the only sound being the final resounding crack as his spine snapped into place and a normal if not slightly short human was left sprawled on the floor in the palace of what was once a towering monster. Magic was handy enough that Alaparos was wearing comfortable clothes even in this form, saving himself the trouble of having to dress himself while in this inconvenient appearance. It was a simple yet warm outfit, a cream shawl thrown over a pale grey sweater and an ankle length dark brown skirt completed with classy boots. The exact kind of clothes that he liked and he was thankful that his control over this one particular spell was advanced enough to do this. The early days of trying out his human disguise were embarrassing to say the least. With a grunt, Alaparos dragged himself across the floor towards the door, where his KSL sat folded up. Straightening the walking aid out, he hefted himself up onto the seat, letting out a small sigh when he did so. Legs were really more trouble than they were worth and he found it annoying to walk with, even if the chronic pain whenever he did so didn't exist. Making sure that his legs were comfortable, Alaparos carefully unhooked a bag hanging by the coat rack, brown and nondescript. Within it was a few books as well as a phone, keys, and his wallet. Setting the bag onto his lap Alaparos gently wheeled himself out of the apartment. While he had technically graduated, Alaparos still frequented his alma mater since he was on his way to writing a published paper. Although magical theory was a wide field, magical theory concerning the sea and other worlds, dimensions, timelines, and even the past were scarce at best and Alaparos planned on changing that.

Rolling down the familiar streets of the university campus, Alaparos greeted those who waved to him as he made his way towards one of the many libraries within the university. The one that held most of the books concerning Magical Theory was located conveniently near the forest by the edge of the University's property and Alaparos made a mental note to visit the forest after his visit to the library. There was simply a pull surrounding that place and perhaps he was foolish to follow that pull but he could be likened to a moth following the light, flitting from one pace to another without a clear sense of direction. Whatever caught his attention he would follow and the forest certainly had ensnared his mind ever since this morning.

Taking in the information, Mistfur nodded padding over to the warrior. While it seemed like an easy solution, he liked to be thorough and check just in case. "I'm just going to feel around." He announced before gently placing his paws on Fawnspot's belly. His touch was light and grazing, barely felt as Mistfur worked to make sure that nothing was wrong. After the preliminary check, Mistfur padded towards the cupboard of herbs he kept. "Chew this, it should help. If it's pain you're worried about, eat these." Picking up Chervil leaves and Dandelion leaves, Mistfur placed them before the warrior. "I didn't feel anything off so it's probably bad prey. If you don't mind me asking, what was it that you ate?" While he doubted it was anything important, bad prey could mean some kind of message or a sign of disease spreading in the forest. It would be best to catch such signs early and stamp it out before it became a problem.

Alaparos didn't usually have these type of thoughts, but he was sorely tempted to murder whoever came up with the concept of waking up in the morning with the sun. Sometime during the night, his curtains had shifted just so that sunlight peeked through the slight parting between the cloth, casting rays of light onto the bed, and more importantly right into his eyes. It was equal parts annoying and comfortable and perhaps that was the worst part of it all. The sheets that had soaked up the sun's rays were nice and warm, bringing with it the scent of the new day and fresh laundry done the night before, a luxury that Alaparos indulged in for a few more minutes, content in twisting his rolling coils among the warm fabric. But on the other hand, having the sun in his eyes was really quite annoying. It had roused him from an odd reoccurring dream he had been seeing as of late, the details of which were already beginning to evaporate within the morning rays, an unknown name on his lips and his hand outstretched to the lonely and cold side of the bed. Or perhaps it was a new one, where someone had spoken to him about the past, of flames and righteous anger and mysteries long unsolved. Truthfully, all these dreams slipped through Alaparos' fingers like sand, pooling on the blank floor in an incomprehensible pile each one indistinguishable from the next. All he could remember was the old forests a brisk walk away from the main campus that he used to frequent. It was nice, a sort of quite place that he could turn to whenever University got too hard and he desired to simply immerse himself within nature.

The insentient presence of a sunbeam falling over his eyes had other plans, however, unwilling to leave him to his musings and blinded him the moment Alaparos tried to crack his tired eyes open. Okay so that wasn't happening any time soon. Rude. With a disgruntled murumph, Alaparos began to untangle his body from the nest of blankets he had accumulated during the night. It felt like a crime to let each sheet fall off his body and onto the floor as he slithered out of his nest. Stretching with a little groan and not hearing any of his joints pop, Alaparos huffed in confidence and began to fold up his blankets. Corner to corner, flip, press, flip press, the process repeated itself again and again until seven neatly folded rectangles of cloth sat atop the soft mattress which is frankly absurd. Who slept with seven blankets anyways? Alaparos apparently, as the aforementioned centaur dragged his hooves towards the bathroom to fix his tussled mess of hair into a semi-appropriate form. It was a tried and true habit by now, shoving himself into a bathroom that barely fit him to look at a mirror that showed his chin and nothing above, brushing out the numerous tangles in his voluminous hair before giving up and gathering it up into an acceptable half ponytail, falling back asleep in the process of tying it up, only awoken by the harsh snap of the hair elastic against the back of his hand. Gently washing his face, he dabbed on eye primer before drawing on a simple flick of eyeliner with a practiced stroke of his wrist. The gloss was applied in a similar quick fashion, a glide of the tube over slightly bitten lips. With the cosmetics out of the way, Alparos yawned again as he ducked under the door frame to get to the kitchen. He absolutely didn't trust himself to cook anything in his half asleep state, drifting in and out of consciousness as he fumbled along the counter for the breakfast bagel he had prepared yesterday. On his way to food, Alaparos also hit the coffee machine, his half awake brain coming to life just long enough to set up a mug of coffee before it was back to searching for breakfast now with the hum of the machine to keep him company. Eventually Alaparos did find his breakfast bagel, hand accidentally sweeping the food off the counter in an attempt to grab it. But with all things in life, Alaparos liked to think outside of the box for solutions and in this particular situation, he decided (for whatever reason) that batting the bagel with his tail (an appendage more suited to battle and a weapon in it's own right) would be a good idea.

Spoiler alert. It wasn't and Alaparos was left looking at his ceiling slightly forlornly as his bagel ricocheted off of it and plopped back down very sadly on the floor. He could only sigh and thank his past self for saran wrapping his breakfast. Small mercies.
