New City Hall

"Sir, the Mafia's main base location has been found."

"Very good, please immediately begin with their eradication."

"A message has already been sent out to Ms. Ophelia Solace to begin work on ensuring their destruction."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was a bright, sunny, nothing-out-of-the-ordinary afternoon in The City of Elantine.

A perfect day for trouble to arise.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

"So the National Security Department wants to use the Elite Security Agency to attack us? Interesting..."

Ldeya mused thoughtfully while casually strolling out of New City Hall.

She didn't bother reporting it to Huixin.

"Hmm. While your experiments are much more tempting than this Quest, I'm too lazy to bother leaving school right now. Perhaps we can save the tour for another day."

Ldeya yawned, then laughed lightly.

"And I shall try to not die on this Quest, so I can see that day."

"Well actually, we could go now. It's not like there's anything stopping us, and the Quest sounds boring anyways."

Ldeya smirked. What could the school do if they chose to walk out?

Well, what could they do that actually mattered?

"Hmm. I would, perhaps after this 'Quest'. I'm sure we can figure something out."

Ldeya shrugged.

"Oh well, I don't mind my death. It's just another event that happens."

"Hmm, why people try so hard to simply exist is beyond me. Have you ever tried asking them?"

The possibility that such a thing was morally wrong didn't even occur to Ldeya.

Well, the possibility that people might think so did, but that was just what others thought. And in a world where most people didn't have the resolve or ability to act on their thoughts, what did those thoughts matter?

"Oh? And I assume from your description that they will eventually express no qualms over standing upon the dead bodies of their supposed friends to survive."

Ldeya tilted her head, imagining the scenario. Perhaps people would finally realise the pointlessness of their fake friendships and loyalties then.

She had to admit, she was interested for the first time in...

She didn't bother remembering.

"So they would prioritise living over all else? Foolish. What's the point of life if there's nothing in it? Although, arguably, there isn't a point of life anyways."

Ldeya smirked slightly, it would be fun to watch all these people forget their fake morals and values and claw each other to survive. Then at least their life would have given her entertainment.

"A sentiment I don't understand. Do you truly believe there is value in the act of living? Why cling to life?"

Perhaps she could ask one of Andrea's experiments that question. That'd be interesting.

Why did people try so hard to live? Did they really fear death that much? Or did they still believe there was something worth living for?

Or perhaps they were scared of what happens when they lost the will to live.

She could tell them that it wasn't really that bad.

Ldeya sighed, leaning back in the chair and tilting the wine glass back so the last few drops could roll into her mouth. The glass caught the light, a little sparkle danced across the surface.

When she sat up again, a little smirk played across her lips.

"You in a hospital? Then who would I have to talk to?"

She seemed to genuinely contemplate the thought.

"I must admit, you're more interesting than most people I've met. Perhaps your experiments would prove even more so. But are humans really so interesting? Perhaps I've never been looking at them the right way, but most are nothing more than mindless wanderers of this world, pretending they have a place and purpose."

"Interesting people..." Ldeya mused thoughtfully. The prospect seemed... Far fetched and impossible. But her powers of chance showed that nothing was truly impossible.

Besides, she had time to waste, and nothing to lose.

"Care to show me?"

Ldeya tilted her head at the doll, expression still passive.

"The human mind, hmm? Is there anything worth discovering?"

She remained doubtful. There wasn't anything she'd seen that could truly qualify as interesting enough to warrant effort, much less in people. Most people were easily fooled, clueless and like leaves clinging onto tree branches. Dead already, just not wanting to admit it.

Others held a semblance of understanding that there was only so much goodness in the world, and only so much value morals and ideals could bring you.

"Hmm. Things. Like what? Do any of these aspects of existence really matter?"

Ldeya had been told many things. She was smart, charming, beautiful. So?

That was perhaps the question she asked everyone and everything.

So?

So what did it matter how you lived your life?

She could see the many similarities between Andrea and herself, but unlike Andrea, she never bothered to use her natural gifts. What motivated the other girl? Why did she choose to bother with life?

And if she had a good reason, would that reason suffice for herself?

"Preferably."

Perhaps the singular counter to Ldeya's intelligence was alcohol.

Congratulations Andrea, you've officially won her heart!

If there was anything to win, of course.

Still, she was definitely interested. This girl who seemed to be as bored as she was, and as tired of society's odd ideologies.

Or, this girl who pretended to be.

She was more interested in why Andrea bothered acting with everyone.

"Why does it matter what others think of you?"

She stretched lazily, and said it like any other question.

Ldeya tilted her head. Perhaps Andrea understood her point of view better than most. Or perhaps Andrea was trying to make her feel that way. It wasn't like there was anything of hers worth stealing or manipulating, and she didn't care for friendship, so there was no harm in entertaining the girl.

Many lamented that her intelligence was a waste on her. She ignored them.

"Indeed. Perhaps the supposedly Graduation Quest would be more exciting."

"Hmm? Yeah, well, why would you be?"

It was decidedly easy to see that Andrea's smile was fake, but it didn't matter to Ldeya. Socialisation and friendship were more of the pointless things society held dear. Perhaps Andrea was a little more interesting than the clueless ones still pretending their life had purpose. Acting, after all, she could respect. A little.

Graduation?

Why did people even bother with naming these things? It's not like anyone would remember where they went to school, their time there, and when they left when they were 6 feet under.

Still, perhaps the "Graduation Quest" could provide some much needed entertainment. This "Reformation" may have further enhanced her skills, improving upon her previous talent, but so what? It was getting boring, she needed a serious change of pace.

Ldeya rolled a black suitcase towards the auditorium.

There were a few other people gathering there, she probably knew their names, but she didn't care to remember at the moment. Or most other moments, actually.

The one with white hair, streaked through with black, was sitting in a chair.

Ldeya sat down next to her, crossing her legs casually.

"Hi." She thought for a moment. "Andrea, right?"

Athena took Ayran's offered arm, her steps light and perfect.

Perhaps she should spend less time around him. He was infecting her with his propriety. It had been a long time since she'd actually taken a proper walk through the school, instead of running above, much less one which looked less like a walk and more like a tense dance.

Someone's mannerisms could tell you a lot about them, their emotions at the moment, their reputation, their background. Yet Ayran was telling her nothing at all, apart from his tenseness at the moment.

"Why so nervous, Ayran?"

"Hmm, Ayran, care to accompany me on a morning stroll?"

The poor guy was obviously uncomfortable to Trixie's advances, and despite how amusing it was, she needed a distraction from all her worries.

And solving the mystery behind Ayran's perfect appearance would, well, be a perfect fit.
