Chapter Summary: Logan has never understood emotions, all of his attempts at trying to express and understand them have also been futile so his last option is just to ignore them completely. Now that he’s 12 he finds that he might have to go back to trying.

Logan wasn’t the average kid. Kids yelped and ran around like the little animals they were while he stayed inside with a good book and a glameow quietly resting on his lap. He spent his recess in the library instead of playing with the other children as well. Logan had never been one for emotions, expressing and understanding them was a rather daunting task for him. He even had a rather sour and unsavory memory of accidentally making a fellow classmate cry when he had stated that he didn’t care for them and they had their own handful of flaws.

The teacher tried to explain to Logan how that had made them feel and how it wasn’t nice to say such things but it had little to no effect on him. He could see that it upset his classmate. The red and puffy eyes, cheeks that had become raw from being rubbed, and the frown that had replaced what had used to be a smile. They were obvious pointers after all but he could never understand why his statement had caused such a reaction. He had always been told not to lie so he was only doing what he was told after all. The worst part was that he had been forced to sit in the timeout corner the rest of the day as well. The lack of friends Logan had had deprived him from the brighter, happier side of the feelings spectrum and that developed in the less than ideal habit of repressing them. He drove himself farther, dedicating all free time to homework and such, math fact flash cards, and books were basically his best and only friends to be honest. In the end academically it paid off for him! He was an all A’s student and for the classes that were pass or fail he always passed.

Classes like gym, art, and counseling were a bit harder though. He wasn’t the most athletic, art was merely scribbles on a paper to look at, and counseling was talking about emotions, not really Logan’s strong suit. Now Logan was twelve, recently finishing fifth grade. His mother had advised him to join a school for Pokémon trainers, even offering to let him adopt a Pokémon as a pet but he still seemed uninterested. He was far too busy learning about real and helpful things to go to some silly school about Pokémon! He knew all he needed to know about them after all, a classification for hundreds of species that come in a very large variety ranging from a simple fish to the gods that created the universe. See? Not that hard.

Logan’s decision was fine by his mother, after all she only wanted him to be happy but you couldn’t say the same about Logan’s father. He was persistent in getting him to go, insisting that it would be a good learning experience for his son, actually bringing up valid arguments that peaked Logan’s interest. In a world oh, so heavily influenced by Pokémon it wouldn’t hurt to have a year or two’s worth of experience under his belt right? He sighed nodding rather reluctantly but nevertheless coming around to his parents idea in the end anyways. “So what kind of Pokémon would you want to adopt?” His mother quickly chirped. Oh right…

Logan is not the most expressive kid, when his parents convince him to go to a school to learn about Pokémon he’ll have to overcome this, make friends, and... learn to take care of a Pokémon for the first time so he can start his own journey.
