Pouting and whining, Jules rolled out of bed and straightened out his uniform. The moment that he stepped outside the dorm room, he fell easily into the model head boy gently reassuring other Hufflepuffs and assuaging their worries. Pushing his own misgivings and worries, letting his sense of duty take over and let the mantle of responsibility push himself forward. He would have time to contemplate the reason for such an odd announcement later, for now the others came first. It was especially hard as some of the first years were beside themselves with panic but with calm murmurs and softer smiles, it was easily to at least corral the rest into waddling behind him like lost ducklings.

It took a lot more than that to calm the young ones when the newest song was belted out for all to hear

Kneeling by each first year and gently making sure that each one was assured and sent back to the Hufflepuff common rooms with a prefect, Jules knees pulsed with pain as he waved to the final first year who was led out of the Great Hall. With the youngest and most vulnerable of them tucked into the warmth of their common room, he set his mind to the next most important task; receiving instructions from the Headmistress. A part of him nagged to talk with the other juniors, the urge to protect those younger than him rearing its head, but he forced them down in order to join Suvansh to talk with McGonagall. "Headmistress." He greeted with a shallow bow. "The Hufflepuffs first years have been sent back to the common rooms. They seemed understandably shaken up and I fear that many will be unable to rest very well." His report was short and succinct, leaving out no detail yet the snappy nature of it made it easy to listen to, staying objective and to the point. No mention was made of himself.

Perhaps it was because he was still indecisive but the thought of being involved in such a high stakes prophecy was nerve wracking. All he had ever wanted was to lay low and quietly disappear once he graduated. Being named as head boy threw a little wrench in those plans as now he had the eyes of the entire Hufflepuff house and the faculty on him. It would make quietly leaving a little harder but it wouldn't be impossible. Associating with something as big as the revival of a new dark lord was sure to shine an unwanted spotlight on him. But on the other hand, Jules felt a sense of duty to at least try. A bear patronus clearly applied to him and it would be foolish to not at least try.

Jules had indeed not been listening to a word his friend had said in the great hall. Even now he could still feel the nerves buzzing under his skin but talking with a friend had eased them somewhat. They came back with a vengeance, however, when Suvansh mentioned their shared career trajectory. It wasn't like his friend was wrong, per say. Its just that he never planned to stick around long enough for that to ever come true. Wiggling to face Suvansh, cheek squished against the pillow, he shoved down the uncomfortable feeling of lying to someones face and gave a shaky smile. "By the time this year's over, we won't even have to go through Auror training." He joked, chuckling dryly. "I hope that none of the younger years are caught up in this though... I'd rather it be us who are affected rather than anyone younger..." He trailed off before sighing. He really didn't mean for the conversation to get heavy and flipped over onto his back. "But I guess what happens, happens. There's nothing we can really do about it, right?"

Jules couldn't help but agree as he belly flopped onto his own bed. The question of the sorting hat song was undoubtedly on everyone's mind but especially with Jules. It was an open secret that Jules parents had been staunch supporters of the Dark Lord himself and had served by his side. Wealth and internal corruption had ensured their physical safety yet their social repute had all but been destroyed. To hear that a new one was to appear did not bode well. Undoubtedly, he would be getting yet another strongly worded letter from his family once word began to spread of such an odd song. After all, the hat did tend to prophesies in odd ways

"It sounds like edgy wish fulfillment." Who would be dumb enough to bring back the dark lord? He forced himself to brush the song off, voice muffled by the pillow he had smushed his face into. "Hey, d'ya think we have anything to do with this? Shimmering hope sounds an afwul lot like a patronus and yours is a dove while mines a bear... But that's a bit too far fetched isn't it? I don't want too much trouble on our final year.

"Why are we put on this earth, just to suffer?" Jules whined, though a part of him was inordinately pleased to be sharing a majority of his classes with Suvansh. Having been friends for a while now, the other Huffepuff's presence would undoubtedly make some of the lessons much more interesting.

Such dramatics only increased when the brand new broom was presented to him, sleek and undoubtedly an upgrade to the banged up artifact that Suvansh rode the year before. "You didn't! Isn't that your dream broom?! Oh wow, thats beautiful!" Cooing over the immaculate varnish of a new broom and the aerodynamics of it all, Jules' eyes held an excited glimmer. While he himself rode a slightly outdated Firebolt, with Suvansh getting his hands on one of the fastest models on the market, Hufflepuff's chances of winning the cup this year was looking better and better. But even if he heaped on the praises, he couldn't help but tease the other too. "I bet you'll fall off the broom during practice." He taunted with a sly grin

He burst burst laughing, intelligent heaves of hiccuping giggles spilling forth from his lips. He had kneeled over to Vallance himself, shoulders shaking at Suvinash's admission that he felt ancient of all things. Jules couldn't exactly deny it though, also going through the same crisis. All of the first years looked so young and tiny it was a miracle how they had once been that small themselves. As the subject of classes came up, Jules winced. It was no secret that the Head Boy took a ridiculous amount of classes. And while he could never live up to what the Minister of Magic did in her years at Hogwarts, he was still widely considered to be crazy for taking on 9 N.E.W.T. level courses. "I feel you, those exams aren't going to be easy at all." He sighed, not looking forward to the countless sleepless nights spent pouring over texts. "I've got Astronomy, Charms, Defense Against Dark Arts, Herbology, Potions, Transfiguration, Arithmancy, Care of Magical Creatures, and Muggle Studies. Though I won't be testing for Muggle Studies or Astronomy. I may be a try hard but I'm not suicidal." Just enough courses to convince others that he was working towards being an auror while still giving Jules the knowledge he needed when the time came for him to disappear.

"How about you? Ready to drink ungodly amounts of coffee just for a few more hours of study?" He joked.

There was much to do. Already, Alaparos could think of many different things that he would have to bring along though he doubted that his bag would have enough space for most of them. He couldn't help but also worry about the infamous rule of 3. Truthfully, he didn't want any one to get hurt but it was almost away the case. They were going on a perilous journey, one that he had inadvertently kicked off, and he felt responsible for them. Already on a daily basis, he held a protective spark for anyone who so much as steps foot within Camp Half-Blood, but with his quest it was like his instincts were kicked up to eleven. Just the thought of anyone getting hurt on this adventure sent ants crawling along his skin, making him shudder.

A hesitant hand on his shoulder had him glancing up, meeting Chiron's soft eyes. The activity directors seemed tired and for the first time in two weeks it wasn't anger or frustration that filled Alaparos' chest. "I think we might need to break out those braces sooner than we thought." He tried, a dry smile on his lips. The resulting chuckle he got for his wisecracking joke was enough for him to relax marginally. Things would be okay, he'd make sure of it.

So lost in thought, Jules jumped when Suvinash addressed him. "Huh? Wha- Oh!" He sputtered, cheeks colouring in embarrassment. Politely coughing into his fist in order to mask the unsightly sound. "Hello Suvi, I didn't see you there. Honestly, I thought you would be head boy, not me." As they were set loose to return to their dorms, Jules let the Hufflepuff prefects lead the group and give them a tour, hanging back with Suvinash. Normally he would be at the front of the group and leading them yet today his mind simply wasn't in it. Perhaps it was because of the odd ditty the hat had sung or the new pressures that being a head boy had simply worn away at his mind. Whatever the reason was, he was content to linger and watch over the new Hufflepuff students from behind.

"Its our last year." He said with no small amount of sadness, expertly avoiding any more well meaning questions about his break. "How're you feeling about it? Feeling old yet?"

perhaps it was because of the rapid fire one after another nature of the past few minutes but Alaparos felt an unusual amount of confidence welling up within him. He himself held up his hand. "I too will volunteer. It was my fault in the first place, let me be one of the ones to fix it." He iterated firmly. "Also, it would be unfair of me to nominate others without being a part of such a quest." This one was said a little more ruefully, the humourless stretch of his smirk not quite reaching his eyes. But still, even if it held no mirth the sheer calm that exuded from the Son of Hestia put others at ease as well.

With each new camper volunteering, Chiron's face drew tighter and tighter before he finally sighed. "Yes, I suppose that everyone who has volunteered does encompass the perceived outlines of the prophecy. For now we shall retire. Those who have volunteered, we shall discuss the details tomorrow, but be prepared to set out by then. Dismissed." Came his stern instructions. There was still time before curfew, a few hours to be exact, and so while some campers dispersed to return to their cabins, others stayed by the bonfire eagerly gossiping.

Jules was many things. Being patient enough to sit still was unfortunately not one of them. Ever since he had sat down to go though his final Sorting Ceremony, he couldn't stop the slight fidgeting and ticks. The ceremony was underscored by the nearly inaudible tapping of nails on wood, a gentle rap-tap-tap keeping a steady rhythm. His actions didn't go unnoticed by other Hufflepuffs in his year, their concerned glances adding to the odd rhythm of nerves. He wasn't sure why, perhaps it was the odd sort of prophecy that had just been gleefully sung before them, but this final year was already beginning on an odd note.

But this was Hogwarts. What year would it be if there weren't at least 12 oddities that occurred within the first month of the school year? Shaking his head slightly, Jules schooled his actions and focused on the ceremony. This was the last time he would be seeing this, he wanted to remember it clearly. It all went by almost like a blur and he almost didn't notice when the food appeared, heaps of mouthwateringly appealing food laid out before the students. Blanching at the sheer amount of things to eat, Jules took only a few choice bites before a subtle wave of his hand and a self made charm was cast to hide the food just to his eyes. Gently picking at his food, he gently tuned out of the conversation, mind a few paces away as he watched the ceremony without quite registering what was going on

Alaparos nodded, one hand raised up in the air. "I agree, Fallon is level headed and would be a valuable asset to a quest." He nominated from his place near the top of the amphitheater where the campfire was being held. Usually he was seated near the bottom, his change of seating a sure sign that he and Chiron were having less than cordial disagreements. "I would also like to raise the following suggestion. There are certain lines that connect themselves to certain members of the pantheon as evidenced by Suvinash and Dezerae. For instance, Lady Athena and Lady Tyche are referenced along with Lord Apollo. I suggest that members of said cabins be considered as candidates."

The campers who belonged to those cabins whispered among themselves, some giving Alaparos dirty glares. One girl stood up and the camp could recognize her as the Head of Apollo Cabin. "Respectfully, I'm going to tell you to go pound sand. The line specifically says that the Sun will be a Cost. We've already lost one camper, we won't send another." She spoke firmly before sitting down, some members of her cabin giving her grateful smiles. That sent of a wave of murmurs again as the demigods debated as to the meaning of the lines.

"A wise mage once said 'Doors are for those with no imagination'. My point being, whenever you're stuck try entering from the windows instead. I've found that it works wonders when trying to solve problems."

Name: Jules Hadrian
Year: 7 (18 years old)
House: Hufflepuff
Patronus: Black Bear
Any special ability?: Is able to cast simple wandless charms, Parselmouth
Wand: Alder with a Horned Serpent Horn core, 10" and very flexible
Personality: If you want a replacement parent figure, then Jules is the person for you. Having trouble with anything? Jules will whip up a batch of cookies and will sit down with you, patiently going over everything you don't know. You can always count on Jules to be there if you need any help despite his Head Boy status and the rumour that he takes eleven courses. Some wonder why he's in Hufflepuff when his personality fits more into Ravenclaw, often found burning the midnight oil studying for his numerous classes, but his loyalty and devotion knows no bounds. Once he considers you a friend, you are a friend and nothing you do can change that. Even if you hurt him, you will forever be his friend in his mind. But know that there is cruelty in his kindness for childhood habits are not so easy to discard. He is also very petty, especially towards his family
His specialty is in Charms, reaching a level of proficiency where he can cast nonverbal spells and is working on perfecting wandless spells. He is a chaser on the Hufflepuff Quiddich team and is Hufflepuff's Head Boy
Appearance: Yet another rumour that circulates about Jules is the lineage, many speculating that there is Veela blood in him. Although untrue, Jules is quite pretty, with long dark hair that is usually put in a high ponytail, a heart-shaped face and light doe eyes to accentuate it, not even the presence of deep eyebags detracting from the beauty. He indulges in makeup from time to time, most often sporting red eyeliner as well as a light sheen of lipgloss. He likes to wear comfortable clothes, sporting a cottage core aesthetic out of uniform.

That... wasn't quite an answer, nor was it effective in soothing Alaparos' nerves. Nonetheless, he nodded and fell silent. There was a sense of duty that nagged at him to be on the quest but besides having a much too strong personal investment in the quest, there were other factors that conceivably would stop him. For one, he was wheelchair bound. It wasn't like he couldn't walk, he could. But it hurt, legs crumpling the moment any weight was up on them as each step felt like glass gouging out his nerves. Questing around on a wheelchair though would only slow people down and accessibility would have to be taken into account. It was just another layer of added difficulty that a quest didn't need. Not for the first time, he cursed his disability.

As they reached the big house, rolling up a ramp that had been installed shortly after Alaparos' arrival to the camp, the two could see Chiron waiting for them. The centaur gazed down at them, lips pursed. "Chiron." Alaparos greeted, dread settling into the pit of his stomach. "There is much to talk about."

Campfires weren't a daily thing but when one was called, by Chiron especially, everyone was sure to come. With all the camper gathered, the centaur cleared his throat.

"As you may know, a prophecy has been spoken but not received by anyone. As is the will of the gods, a quest must be undertaken. However, as no one has received the prophecy, the question as to who will go on such a quest has been undetermined. It is my hope that tonight, campers may volunteer themselves and if they are characters who align with the prophecy and are suited to be sent out, will embark on such a quest."

Alaparos nodded as he noticed Quinns fidgety nature. It wasn't unusual for that kind of thing, what with their brains wired differently. ADHD may be a pain in the neck when outside of camp but at least it kept them alive. "She'll be fine, hopefully. Prophecies take a lot out of her so you know. Sugary foods and all will be good." He gestured towards the plates he was jealously guarding, stacked with both staple foods and desserts. But also because of the almost obscene amount of food piled on his lap, his hands weren't quite free enough to push himself uphill towards their destination. He mentioned as much and they fell into an awkward sort of silence on the trek up, Quinn helping push Alaparos.

"Do you think I should volunteer for the quest?" He suddenly blurted out, breaking the silence. "I'm responsible for letting the fire go out. Not to mention that its my partner who has been taken. The Sun will be your cost? That can not be a coincidence. But on the other hand, I have too many personal stakes which may put the quest goers in danger."

As he made his way through the pavilion, Alaparos paused to take a glance at the gathered campers each one huddled together to whisper over the mysterious prophecy. His eyes landed on the Tyche table where they seemed to be crowding around one camper in particular, Quinn if he remembered correctly. He supposed that they were talking about the particular line in the prophecy that pertained to luck and strife. It would make sense that people would turn to him, he was older than his siblings and usually knew a lot more than others. Taking pity him despite being the younger of the two, but who wasn't when Quinn was one of the oldest campers around, he wheeled himself up to the Tyche table. However, just as he was approaching, Quinn excused himself looking quite pale, stumbling towards Cabin 16. Furrowing his brows, he gently conversed with those still remaining at the table. From there, he could extrapolate that they had perhaps pushed a little too hard for the elder to go on the quest. It was an understandable reaction, Alaparos supposed, thanking the table before pushing himself towards the Tyche cabin. If he had been hounded by any hypothetical siblings to go one a quest, he too would have run away.

Gently knocking on one of the four entrances to the casino like building, Alaparos didn't wait for an answer before cleaning his throat. "Quinn? Can I ask you to help me up to the Big House? I'd do it myself but I have food for Cassandra. Anyone who wants to help is a bit too small for the task unfortunately. I fear that if they try, the wheelchair will simply roll backwards onto them." The memory of that happening once before pulled a wry chuckle from him.

For a moment, panic rushed through Alaparos when the child of Eris scooped up the prone oracle. The children of strife didn't exactly hold the best reputation for staying out of danger. He would know, keeping watch over the amount of campers hobbling and dragged into the infirmary. However, with reliable Fallon to keep watch over them, he relaxed slightly. With Fallon's sense of loyalty, there was at least some assurance that she would reign her cousin in, which left Alaparos free to muse over the prophecy.

While pointing fingers wasn't something that Alaparos took pleasure in, with what clues that he had found in the big house and the prophecy itself, it was clear that the underworld had a connection to everything that was going on. Why else would there be a line explicitly talking about the Hearth leading them to Hell? Some lines simply didn't make any sense. A Poisoned Storge, a twisted natural love. What a mystery that was. And what did it mean to have Wisdom on your heel and Strife and Luck be your wheel? Sure it rhymed but what kind of nonsense was that? In general the lines in the prophecy didn't sit quite right with him. Of course it sounded world ending but again so were most prophecies. What exactly rubbed him the wrong way, he couldn't quite explain, but he knew that it wouldn't be as simple as it advertised itself as.

With extra food piled on his plate, Alaparos wheeled himself towards the big house. A talk with Chiron would be inevitable but it didn't mean that he was looking forward to it.

The creaking wood alerted Alaparos to the presence of someone else and for a damned moment he felt hope rise within him chest before the telltale clopping of hooves quashed it in an instant. He kept his eyes trained on the dining pavilion, watching the morning meals, staunchly ignoring the arrival of someone beside him. There was a heavy sigh and a hand gently lay itself on his shoulder. There was a whole unspoken conversation in the oppressive silence, one repeated again and again over the past two weeks. Frankly, Alaparos was tired of it. Quietly shrugging off the hand, he bumped his way down the stairs and pushed himself towards the dining pavilion. Honestly he hadn't meant to do so, only wishing to get away from the silence and the memories, his appetite all but gone by now.

Under the soft light of the ever sunny skies, Alaparos looked a bit like a mess. He hadn't bothered to clean himself up much, resulting in unconcealed eye bags and slightly disheveled hair. It was clear that he wasn't doing too well but the stiff posture he held while wheeling through camp was enough for the others to understand that he hadn't given up yet. If anything, his rumpled appearance was a sign that he was still searching, harder than ever.

As he pushed himself forward, someone fell into step beside him. Glancing up, he was surprised to see the dark chocolate skin of Cassandra, the Oracle offering the other a wry smile. "You just looked like you needed some company." She explained, taking the handles of Alaparos' wheelchair with his permission and the two chatted in low tones all the way to the pavilion. With neither of them having designated tables, they simply found a place out of the way to set their bags down before grabbing something to eat. As was the case every day, Alaparos scrapped half a portion of Moussaka into the fire for his Mother, offering the traditional food that so often reminded him of her warm presence, and offered the best portions of his plate to the other gods.

He was about to return to their claimed spot when the crashing fall of cutlery and plates had him jerking his head to his side. Behind him, Cassandra's golden eyes were nothing but thin rings as a sickly green mist spilled out from her slack jaw. Watching with thinly disguised relief and trepidation, Alaparos clenched and unclenched his hands, waiting almost impatiently for the long awaited prophecy to come. If anything, even if it didn't pertain to anything that was happening, it was an opportunity to get out there and figure out what was wrong. He didn't have to wait for very long as the thick mist enveloped the entire pavilion, rolling green clouds brushing against his ankles. Despite being so close to her, Alaparos couldn't even see Cassandra, making the rattling wheeze of the Oracle all the more unnerving as it hissed out the newest quest.

"To seek what has been lost
The Sun will be your cost
With Wisdom on your heel
Strife and Luck be your wheel
And craft with Fire and Spell
The Hearth will lead to Hell
Before winter's final kiss
Deny blinding love's bliss
Lest we take our final rest
When Dawn fades without protest
Poisoned by frozen Storge"

With a final shuddering wheeze, a thump was heard and slowly the mist began to disperse. As the fog lifted, revealing the stunned faces of the gathered campers, Alaparos hurriedly wheeled over to where Cassandra had collapsed, dragging her prone form onto his lap. Glancing around at the other frozen campers, he grimaced at their inactivity. "Someone get a stretcher and get the poor girl into the infirmary." He commanded, strong voice breaking through the stagnant silence.

Character Name:
Song BingLiu

Age:
19

Gender, Pronouns:
Male leaning Agender [He/Him, They/Them]

Appearance:
Among the crowd, Song BingLiu cuts an elegant figure. Tall and graceful, you would be forgiven for thinking that he's an ethereal being walking the earth with cascading locks of silky hair pinned up in a half ponytail and wide sparkling olive eyes to match. His hair often changes colour with how much he dyes it but for some reason it is surprisingly healthy. There are laughter lines etched into his face and smatterings of freckles lining them. He loves fashion and places emphasis and great care in what he wears. Most of the time his apparel is a mix between street punk and cottage core, a weird combination for sure but he pulls it off somehow.

Personality:
ISFJ - The Defender| 2w1 - The Companion
Just like the element he has mastered, Song BongLiu is full of cheer and energy. There's seemingly nothing that can wipe a smile off his face, always ready to face challengers with the brightest grin and a whole lot of enthusiasm. But above all, he has a heart that is much too big for his body. He gives and gives and expects nothing in return, simply content with seeing other's happiness. He hungers for knowledge above all else, striving to learn as much as he can about the world and people around him. He loved, and loves, and looses himself

Other:
Lynxie is his signature Pokemon
He is known to abuse Volt Switch and set traps, utilizing status effects and restricting movement. He is notoriously a pain to beat but the downside is that his pokemon can be easily taken out if one strategize correctly
When not beating up challengers attending to his Elite Four duties, he's usually found baking
When asked to describe him, people always answer thusly: He's sunny weather personified

Team

Species Shiny Luxray | Nickname: Lynxie | Gender: Male
Ability: Guts | Nature: Jolly | Held Item: Flame Orb
Wild Charge | Facade | Volt Switch | Superpower
His very first pokemon. Perhaps it was luck that a brilliant gold Shinx attached himself to Song BingLiu so quickly, but with the latter growing up within a breeding daycare, it wasn't all that surprising. Lynxie is Song BingLiu's confidant, his best friend, his partner. There is nothing that will separate them and they have utmost trust in one another.

Species Magnezone | Nickname: YuShi | Gender: Female
Ability: Analytic | Nature: Modest | Held Item: Choice Specs
Volt Switch | Thunderbolt | Flash Cannon | Hidden Power: Fire
Holding down the role as the main attacker, YuShi is vicious in combat but is the sweetest doting mother once the last pokemon is knocked out. She acts as secondary transportation, carrying Song BingLiu around when Lynxie can't or when heavy cargo must be ferried. She doesn't like this job but still does it with pride

Species Electrivire | Nickname: MinJue | Gender: Male
Ability: Motor Drive | Nature: Jolly | Held Item: Life Orb
Wild Charge | Ice Punch | Cross Chop | Earthquake
The only pokemon on his competitive team that doesn't know Volt Switch. When Song BingLiu pulls MinJue out, challengers know that they're in for a world of pain. He serves as the anchor of the team, both in and out of battle, his jolly nature giving a much needed moodlift. The only thing stronger than his Ice Punch are his Punch Lines

Species Lanturn | Nickname: HeXuan | Gender: Male
Ability: Volt Absorb | Nature: Calm | Held Item: Leftovers
Scald | Ice Beam | Thunder Wave | Volt Switch
Song BingLiu's aquatic transport, HeXuan never usually lingers on the battlefield. Her role is to stun enemies and afflict status ailments before quickly retreating, calm under the immense pressure such a position holds. He's heard that another Elite Four has a Lanturn as well but has never felt compelled to meet her

Species Gavantula | Nickname: XuanJi | Gender: Female
Ability: Compound Eyes | Nature: Timid | Held Item: Life Orb
Sticky Web | Bug Buzz | Volt Switch | Thunder
Every battle against Song BingLiu starts out with XuanJi, the Gavantula laying down Sticky Web. She is a trap setter and sweeps unsuspecting teams that have come unprepared. Despite her vicious battling, she is very shy and always worries that she goes overboard. She is very close with YuShi

Species Raichu | Nickname: MingYang | Gender: Female
Ability: Static | Nature: Timid | Held Item: Focus Sash
Encore | Fake Out | Thunderbolt | Volt Switch
MingYang was his second pokemon and another resident of Song BingLiu's daycare family business. She is yet another trap setter though in the beginning she had used status ailments to chip away at the opponents health. Her role changed after she expressed uncertainty of being on the field and is now much more comfortable trapping opponents within Encore before switching out

Diary Entry
Date: July 3rd, 2022

Two weeks. It's been two weeks and still nothing.

I've looked everywhere but Illie's still missing and the hearth is cold. I can't talk with Mother anymore and everyone expects me to fix the hearth. The only oddity that I found was a crack in the floorboards, yet I hesitate to point any fingers. It seems almost too convenient for such a clue to be situated so close to the hearth, hidden under the carpet. However, it is the only sign that an outside force has tampered with the sacred fire. If something truly did emerge from that fissure and steal away the two lights I have in this camp, then I fear that even the protection of the hearth may not shield them from an untimely demise.

With each passing day, my patience with Chiron grows thinner and thinner. He refuses to send anyone out to investigate or even look for Illie, instead choosing to wait for a prophecy or a message from the gods while insisting that the camp continues as it always had. Each minute we waste sitting on our hands is a moment when the world grows colder and colder. Tomorrow, if nothing has happened yet, I shall go to Cassandra myself and beg for a prophecy. I am not above lowering myself if it means getting something done.

Closing his diary, Alaparos sighed through his nose. The tension that he had carried with him since the beginning of this incident was concentrated within his stiff shoulders and down turned lips. It was an oddity to see the Son of Hestia so downtrodden yet the atmosphere at camp was undeniably gloomy. Despite the best efforts of various campers to keep up the cheer, things were grim. How could things not when a camper was missing and disaster was on the horizon? Despite the brightly shining sun and clear suns, it mind as well be cloudy with thunder rumbling faintly. Running a hand over his face, Alaparos gently patted his cheeks in an effort to re-center himself. There was little he could do right now and stewing over it wouldn't help anyone. Gently rolling out of the cozy sitting room in which the cold ashes of the once brightly lit hearth resided, Alaparos let the well oiled wheels of his wheelchair clatter over the loose boards of The Big House patio.

Hilariously, he had been out in the sun more in these past two weeks than he ever had been in the past two years. It hurt a bit, basking in a perpetual reminder of what he had failed to protect, but he enjoyed the warmth for what it was worth.
