//quietly sets this down I'm a nerd in the mood for Christmas and cuteness. ![]() Asriel didn't celebrate many things on his home planet, as his race was usually much too involved in doing their job as the protectors of the universe to spend time on such a trivial thing. When he was allowed to celebrate something, it was always with his family, and it always resulted in a fight of some sort. Finally, he gave up trying to get his family into a festive spirit when his father shattered the glass music box he'd been making for Amali. However, when he came to - or rather, crashed into - Earth, it opened a whole new realm of possibility for him. But, over time, he grew to enjoy Christmas the most, especially when he ended up living in a house with four others. And it only made it better when his favorite housemate also enjoyed it. Beyond had also grown up with a lack of festivity in his house. Between keeping his sister safe and keeping his father content, he had no time for the holidays. Even when he was little, they were never important. Instead, he grew up in a household that told him power was everything, and all the other stuff was useless. He did keep track of the days, though. He could remember picking glass shards out of his arm as the grandfather clock announced midnight, officially making it Christmas day. The only present he got was another scar on his chest. So, when he finally escaped his father and ended up in his current home, he started to fully appreciate all of the celebrations, and would take any chance he could get to participate in them. Despite all their differences, Beyond and Asriel always became closer during holidays, and even their housemates noticed. On Christmas Eve night, they found themselves alone, free to do whatever they wanted in the almost-empty dwelling. "It's so quiet when the others aren't here." Beyond said, staring up at the skylight in the living room that pretty much took up the whole ceiling. He loved the night sky. It had always been an escape to him, a means of forgetting his current environment, but now it reminded him of Asriel. He'd memorized all the constellations, all the important stars, even the myths behind the names. It was a comfort to him, being able to look up and know a little about what was out there. "Much quieter." Asriel agreed softly, running his fingers through his boyfriend's pale blond hair. "But don't fall asleep on me." They were laying on the carpet by the brightly-lit Christmas tree, Beyond's head resting on Asriel's chest. Pentatonix's holiday music was playing quietly in the background, and the smell of fresh cookies came from the kitchen. It was perfect. Beyond playfully shoved him away. "Hey, I don't fall asleep that easily." He said, but Asriel gave a small laugh and replied with, "Yes, you do." "You ruined the moment, I was going to make some profound statement about the value of life and you were going to be so impressed for once." Beyond huffed, raising himself up on his elbow. "I guess now I'll have to eat all the cookies instead. What a shame." "And who was the one that helped make those cookies?" Asriel asked, thoroughly amused at this point with his boyfriend's teasing. "If I recall, you just made the ingredients appear and ate cookie dough." Beyond replied, already knowing where this was going to lead. He was ready. "Hey, you told me to, and I quote, "stop using your reality shifting for stupid stuff, sit down before you pass out." Although, it wasn't a particularly stupid reason. If I got to eat homemade treats before, I'd totally go unconscious for a few hours." Asriel remarked, and immediately had to roll out of the way of an incoming pillow. "Race you, then!" Beyond smiled, and was on his feet and in the kitchen before his boyfriend could even process the words fully. By the time Asriel did reach the kitchen, a cookie was already missing. "That was cheating." He said, reaching for one of the warm, chocolatey clumps. Beyond whacked his hand away. "It was a fair game. But, I suppose if you make it up to me I'll share." The silver-eyed blond replied, and Asriel snapped his fingers. Two mugs of steaming liquid appeared on the counter. "Truce?" He asked, but Beyond didn't answer, already taking a sip of his hot chocolate. It was just the way Asriel knew he liked it. Real whipped cream, three marshmallows, and a cinnamon stick. Taking the silence for a yes, he picked up one of the cookies and bit into it. It tasted like heaven, all gooey chocolate and warm insides. He decided he wanted Beyond baking more. Just as he was about to say so, a clock chimed, signaling midnight. Taking the mug out of Beyond's hand and setting it down, along with his delicious cookie, he pulled the smaller boy into the living room, stopping when they were centered under the skylight. "Look up." Asriel said, and Beyond looked at him, puzzled. "Just do it." Complying, he glanced up into the starry sky and his eyes widened in surprise. Little creatures of all shapes and sizes were zipping around in the darkness above, each decorated with orbs of light in a color unique to them. Beyond recognized some from Asriel's notebooks, but they were more breathtaking in person. Feathers, scales, skin, fur, and somewhere in between, it was all there, twirling and dancing in the sky. "At midnight, as the world turns over to Christmas day, at least one of every sio - special flying animals unknown to humans - takes to the sky to celebrate the ending of Kaeli, a holiday to honor the stars and other planets. Each sio chooses a different hue to symbolize a different galaxy or constellation. Then, they dance together, among the stars, to thank them for their light and their beauty as a whole. I thought you might like to see it since-" Asriel was cut off as Beyond hugged him. For a moment, he stood still, startled. Then, he hugged back. Before Beyond pulled away, he gave Asriel a kiss on the cheek, and said, "Thank you, Asriel. This is the best Christmas I could have asked for. I love you." Asriel smiled. "I love you too." I'd love to hear what you think, since I'm still a bit sketchy on writing romance. [Read more] |

Tbh, I think that idea is really cool. I'd definitely read that. @All On a side note, I took a break from serious-high-school-writing-stuff to play around with Ten and Death and their newborn universe. I'm not sure how I feel about it, but any feedback is greatly appreciated. ![]() "We'll be together until the world ends." Illia would say, glancing at him by her side, a knowing look in her eyes as she said it. To her, it was not only a promise, but a comfort. He was the friend she could keep, the one who wouldn't run away, because he had nowhere to go. The words rang through her body, bringing confidence to her stride, bringing her tranquility wherever she went. But peace couldn't save a shattered soul, and her only companion was too little too late. "You're the best, you know?" Elass would say, smiling through the lies and the hardships. She was clueless, but happy, and endlessly loyal. She made him trusting again, and he brought back the joy she had lost. They were close, bonded, and it lasted for once. He allowed his heart to feel once more, and poured his soul into the tough little warrior he grew to enjoy. However, tough didn't mean invincible, and her blood soon stained his hands, like so many others before. She broke his heart for good, so he thought. As years passed, he distanced himself. Emotions were forgotten within weeks. Memories became colorless, the pain expressed in black and white instead of shades of gray. It hurt all the more when he couldn't deny the hard facts, as he could feelings. Life turned bleak, full of uninteresting individuals he didn't care about. Nothing stuck out anymore, nothing was worth the effort. His reasons for living were weak, and crumbled into dust without a purpose. "You're not bad, you're good." The words were new, they sparked something. The kid was young, but full of sardonic humor and cold intelligence. And, underneath, he wasn't vulnerable, as most were. He was... strong. He didn't hide away the things that scared him, he didn't flinch at the mention of an unsolved past. He lived in the moment, letting things hurt him, and then letting them go. His name was Tenebris. As Tenebris grew to like him, he found his emotions stirring. Over time, he became protective, but he was also hesitant. He didn't want to have his heart broken again, he didn't want to feel responsible for the kid's mangled body. It wasn't a matter of if, it was a matter of when. So, he locked away his heart inside himself, never allowing Tenebris to lay a finger on it. However, when he found a monster dead at Tenebris's feet, he realized something. Maybe he couldn't give away his heart, but he could keep the kid safe. He could teach Tenebris to defend himself against the horrors of the world. Everyday, he waited for the moment when he'd find Tenebris's bloody remains in some alleyway, but the moment never came. The kid only grew stronger, faster, better. And, he found himself slowly unlocking the cage he kept his heart in. Finally, on a rainy night, in a field full of frost-bitten wildflowers, Tenebris hugged him, and snapped the lock completely. "I think I love you, Death." "I think I love you too, Ten." [Read more] |

Sometimes, you are accepted for what you are. Sometimes, you aren't. Occasionally, you are feared. Intelligence is not just a tool of a diplomat. It is a weapon. Cleverness is sharpened and crafted until it is razor sharp, ready to pierce the weakened walls of an enemy's flawed logic. Through use, it may be other things. It can be a fire to guide a civilization, to force the darkness of stupidity and ignorance away, so the people may grow together. But fire can still burn down the town, if you're not careful. Like everything else, mental capacity is only good in moderation. That is why, within these walls, resides the Being of Intelligence. The words were seared into Cae's brain from years of staring at them, repeating every syllable the same way like they're the only words she knew how to form. She could remember the anger and frustration clawing at her from the inside, tuning everything else out until she focused on that sick, twisted version of hope simmering under her skin. Every minute made her more vicious, more cruel, but she kept her wits. When she emerged, she was still recognizable on the outside, the same Cae. On the inside, however, the ice that had once protected her heart and soul from harm were melted by the flames of her rage and thirst for revenge. That was then. This was now. Anger had softened once she'd seen the fates her siblings and friends had met. She's missed eons, locked away like some horrifying animal, but she could almost say she was glad - glad she didn't have to pick a side, glad she didn't have to hurt her fellow gods. She'd been caged because her intellect made her dangerous and unpredictable, because the more helpless creatures of the universe needed to be protected, but her absence indirectly brought about the death of three gods. A hole was left in the galaxies, one that couldn't be fixed easily, and everyone was suffering. Cae brushed her fingers over the words, carved into the stone as much as they were carved into her mind. Since she'd left, the temple had fallen victim to the rainforest. Vines encircled the elegant columns, slowly cracking them more and more as the days passed. The floor was already shattered by the seeds of trees and other insistent plants, leaving the mosaics looking like shards of old stained glass, all jagged edges and fading colors. She had no love for the place, but it was a shame to see such a beautiful sanctuary fall to pieces. The symbolism was not lost on her. Suddenly, she felt as if she should cry, in honor of her secondary home's partial destruction. "It's spectacular, isn't it?" Lainu couldn't help but smile at it all, the wild beauty in the dying temple. Large, leafy plants with colorful blossoms broke through the floor, bright in contrast to the tiles below them. Intricate designs had been worn down by the weather, adding to the wild feel of it. It was pretty in her eyes, born of untamed forces and raw power. "I mean, look at it. Was it like this when you were..." Her voice died as she realized what she was about to say, but the older goddess paid no mind, keeping her palm against the words. Lainu didn't like those words. Sometimes, she found herself repeating them quietly, as if she had spent most of her life here. She didn't understand them, what they meant, why intelligence was dangerous. But they scared her. As if sensing her fear, Cae interlaced their fingers. Instantly, Lainu let a wave of calm wash over her, as she had been trained to do. Together, they stared at the vile carvings, until darkness came and Cae picked up the smaller deity so she didn't trip over anything as they made their way back to the entrance and disappeared.
