Makau, now becoming bored again, glanced around and landed on Gem. Once again, she was scribbling away in her notebook. She had no idea what Gem was writing, but she could guess. Diverting her gaze again, she took to memorizing every feature of the room instead.

Makau hid the pleased smile at the praise. She prided herself on efficiency, on taking down opponents as quickly as possible. She wasn't into theatrics, although she loved making a fool out of someone she disliked as much as the next guy. But, she didn't want to break her already almost perfect image of apathy, so she just shrugged and went back to the wall she was by before.

Makau picked at one of her neatly cut fingernails. "Are we done here?" She asked, her hazel eyes lacking any sort of adrenaline from what just happened. In truth, she wasn't completely bored, just underwhelmed by... well, she'd faced kids on the street that had at least managed a hit before being put down.

(Powerplaying is not just that. Powerplaying an excessive use of abilities so you always win, sometimes to the point of it being unrealistic. I didn't say the fight was over. I could have gone much further if I was really powerplaying. Trust me here.)

(Pretty sure that's not powerplaying :l)

On the topic of changing the name to 'Literature Club': While the name was actually considered (for a good three hours, if I remember correctly) it was scrapped because of what it implies. While you can create literature, the idea of a 'literature club' invokes thoughts more centered around something like a book club. Which, of course, this isn't. And I wouldn't want to confuse people. Writers is much more straightforward. (And easier to spell. I have my priorities).

On a side note, any Percy Jackson fans here? Maybe even Keeper of the Lost Cities? Because my friend writes Foster-Keefe fanfiction on their Wattpad, and we've started a collaborative Solangelo fanfic now. I'm just a little curious to see if anyone reads those books.

Makau, who hadn't even flinched when Anubis came at her, dodged the punch by crouching. Within half a second, her hands were on the floor behind her to take all her weight, and her leg was swinging out. Before Anubis could back away fully, she was sweeping his legs out from under him, and making him crash to the floor. Makau, on the other hand, got to her feet quickly and efficiently, her stance back to that of a relaxed person.

Makau nodded, and made a mental note for no broken limbs. That, she thought, would not reflect well on me. Although it may teach him a valuable lesson. She waited for Anubis to make the first move, as she was curious to what he'd do.

Makau's skeptical look seemed to think she didn't need a handicap, but she didn't waste her breath. She knew exactly how that would turn out. Better to spend her last few peaceful seconds lecturing herself than arguing about something so trivial. So, she narrowed her gaze and waited.

Makau nodded, a sure sign she was ready. The way she stood seemed too relaxed - more like she was waiting for someone. Definitely not the usual posture for someone about to fight. Take it easy at first. Remember, you haven't done this in a month or so. While you're still properly stretched, that might not stop you from injury if you push it.

Makau had to agree with Rylie. They were almost operating on the same logic, although Makau's was a bit more extreme. Hmm, she certainly doesn't seem to bad. And neither does the techie betting on my success. Even the quiet girl with the notebook. It would have been intriguing to find one, but to find three? Maybe leaving the streets... no, don't go there. Focus on the task at hand.

Makau didn't budge. Weapons are useless if you can't learn to defend yourself alone. Besides, weapons are for kills, not sparring. She reminded herself. If he wanted to fight with something to aid him, fine. She could fix that.

"So I've been told," Makau replied, "the last person to say that ended up with a knife lodged in her throat. Lets see how you fair." With that, she turned silent again, her eyes hardening with determination. This is a dance, Makau. One you've done with dozens before. Do not lose your footing, or skimp out on a turn. Confidence is key. You are small, but you are trained. You are graceful.

Makau slid her sharp gaze towards Anubis. For a moment, she seemed like she wasn't going to answer. Slowly, she ran a hand through her hair, sweeping the bangs out of her eyes. Finally, she uttered her first words. "Silence is not the same as being emo. Anyone with half a brain could tell I am simply being reflective on my actions and true purpose here. It appears you lack the intelligence I've seen some of the others hold. A shame, really, although I suppose I recognized it the moment you spoke to me. How thoroughly annoying that I chose not to listen to my instincts." She sighed, dropping her hand. "Sparring doesn't seem like a bad idea, though."

Makau could feel Clover's gaze on her, but she paid no mind. She made sure every muscle was prepared but relaxed to their fullest extent, the way she did so automatic and almost robotic in her motions. An injury was to be avoided at all costs, that was always what she told herself. Injuries slowed her down, and that was unacceptable. She had stretched every morning, kept her muscles warm to the best of her abilities. She had seen the cost of a torn tendon in a fight. It wasn't pretty.

Makau just continued her stretching from before. It's just like dancing, she thinks, teach your muscles the proper way to move again. Allow them to become comfortable with your usual stances and movements again. You've done this a million times, Makau, even if you've been slacking recently.

Makau walks into the training room, her usual bored look on her face. She wasn't hungry, or tired, and was certainly ready to get around to some training. It was so quiet without the sound of labored breathing and scuffle of feet against the floor - too quiet. She almost wanted to leave and go back to the streets again. At least it was always a fight there, a war to survive and thrive in the grime and violence. Maybe things will be different now that we're really getting into training. She thought to herself.

Makau was already awake, and simply hopped down from the top bunk as gracefully as she could. It wasn't her best landing, but she didn't injure herself. Briefly stretching, she ran a hand through her hair to correct it.

Makau hadn't said anything since the moment she walked in, and she wasn't breaking that streak. She had listened to what they were dealing with without giving feedback, signed 'Fear' under special operative without a word, and claimed the top bunk of one of the beds silently. Truly, the girl who had the bottom bunk wasn't too bad. Makau had seen her writing in a notebook earlier, and lurking next to the wall. She didn't mindlessly chatter like the others, or seem too confident and boastful. It reminded her of someone, and she made a mental note to possibly talk to her later. As she thought about this, she stared up at the ceiling, and knew she wouldn't be sleeping much tonight.

Makau's attention snapped back into focus when the newbies arrived. She studied them for a few moments, then resumed her quiet thinking once more.
