The sound of music caught Revna's attention. She paused, half debating whenever or not she could afford to be late for work. Oh whatever, a few minutes won't hurt. She moves closer to the sound, apologizing when she accidentally bumped into a couple. One turns to glare towards her, but she adverts her gaze away and continues closer towards the sound.

Had he always been here? Or has she been too consumed by her own thoughts to notice? Much like now- she was being tailed by a drone and haven't bothered to pay attention to the buzzing sound above her. She stands a respectful distance away, glancing at him for a moment before finally glancing around at her surroundings, gently taping her foot along to the music.

For someone being so focused on being invisible. One would think she would be aware of her environment. Was her lack of awareness due to confidence or something else entirely? Revna herself couldn't be too certain of the answer.

She finally notices the odd feeling in the air. As if she was being watched. But when she glances around, nothing seems out of the ordinary. She drops the feeling and instead refocuses on the music.

Something is wrong! Something is most certainly wrong!

Her leg shouldn't be feeling like this- like something had stabbed into it. The pain was so intense, it took everything Revna had not to pass out. An unnatural animal-like screech pierced through the air. It was something Revna had grown use to, but stupidly never grown afraid of. Why did I stay here? Why didn't I leave with the first evacuation group?

She was trapped underneath the rubble of her house. Large pieces of wood had crumpled over her, sparing her from the full weight of the rubble. Dust and other particles drifted around her, choking and blinding her. Her fear only grew when she heard the sound of approaching footsteps growing louder and louder.

Bearing her teeth together, she summons her cards and weakly reaches out towards the king of spades. Her movement was impaired due to the surrounding rubble and the footsteps were close, nearly about to crush down on top of her while she desperately reached for the card...

She jolts upwards, and aims an arm to the ceiling. Five surprisingly durable cards fire up and pierce the ceiling above her. She sits still for a moment, breathing hard while she listens to the neighbor above her stomp around. She winces, holding a hand to her forehead while she slowly calms down.

That's right. She was no longer in the City of Wisdom. Oh how she missed it. She would give anything to return to the life she knew before the monster hoards appeared.

She sighs and glances at the time. Barley reading the numbers as she lazily moves out of her bed. She would be in no hurry to get to work. Compared to her old life, life here was boring. But it was safe. Still, she couldn't help but feel like it wouldn't be peaceful for long. After all, nobody could've predicted that the City of Wisdom would've fallen.

Getting dressed and grabbing her keys, Revna quickly moves out the door. Quickly resummoning her cards in the off chance that her landlord would peek inside and see the damage made by her cards. It wasn't made be me, I swear! She walks with her hands in her pocket, her head hung low. She tries to do what she can to be as small and unnoticeable as possible.

Revna Payne

~"My whole life, I have never been lucky. I always lost my bets, I could never seem to understand the game. So I decided to make a new one, one that tilts the luck in my favor"~

Gender: Female

Age: 21

Personality: A jittery girl, she is usually fiddling with a deck of cards. She is extremely kind towards others and tries to treat others well- to not hold grudges. Secretly, she is afraid of confrontation, despite having an extremely strong ability. That doesn't mean she won't stand up for herself or others.

Appearance: Revna stands at around an average height of 5'6. She has long white hair that has silver streaks in it, she also has silver eyes- that turn purple upon activation of her ability. She is somewhat thin and has pale skin.

Ability: The power of the odds. Revna is able to harness her ability through a deck of cards. Using it for both offensive and defensive uses. She can make her cards levitate around her as a shield or throw them towards her enemies like painful blades. Her cards are activated through defensive use when an opponent accidentally or purposely hits her cards. She can also activate her ability by manually 'pressing'
any chosen card.
Card abilities:
Show hidden content

-Hearts: Once said to represent the clergy. These cards will test your faith. Summons a powerful necromancer. While the spells aren't anything special- just a simple spell that causes pain. The level of pain increases via card value (ranging from slight discomfort to deep cuts/potential to break bones)

-Spades: Once said to represent the military. This card summons a seasoned knight. Heavily experienced, wearing thick armor that makes his movements slow- but will make him difficult to take down. He carry a heavy claymore blade, that will certainly cut his enemies down in an instant. The only thing holding him back is the draw of the card. (The cards limit his movement from one to ten meters)

-Clubs: Once said to represent the merchants. Keen, sharp, and quick. This merchant will do what she can to take the price that is owed to her. She is equipped with a bow that has a series of different arrows. The higher the card value, the stronger each shot will be. (Ranges from flesh wounds to near fatal wounds)

-Diamonds: Once said to represent the peasants. Despite their representation, they are not weak. Hardships have toughened them. Keen eyes have picked up weaknesses to take down even the mighty groups of above them. A single peasant who has learned the dark arts will be your foe. Like the clergy, they use magic. But rather than attack, they use it to defend the one who promises the downfall of the ranks. (It shields Revna, each card represents how many hits it takes for the shield to break)

-Cards 1-10: Represents both range, damage and shield

-Jack: Master of all. Allows Revna to inherit the ability of whatever suit she has drawn for a limited time- but the strength of her power will be the same as a four card

-Queen: Master of all. Allows Revna to inherit the ability of whatever suit she has drawn for a limited time- but the strength of her power will be the same as a six card

-King: Master of all. Allows Revna to inherit the ability of whatever suit she has drawn for a limited time- but the strength of her power will be the same as a eight card

-Joker: Master of all, the fool, the secret hierarchy that trumps all. Revna can choose which suit power she wishes to inherit. Her power level will be the same as a ten card

Skills: She is a powerful fighter. Able to fight short, mid, and long range, depending on the card(s) that are activated. She isn't too great at physical fights and has a huge weakness within her ability

Weaknesses: She isn't a great physical fighter. Also her power, while complicated, has flaws, so long as your character doesn't get too flustered and takes notice to them. It's a long read, but it's explained below :p
Show hidden content

-For one, she personally, can only activate one card at once, and only if other cards aren't active- although she can deactivate those cards

-Cards activated through defensive use can only be active twice at once, and she has minimal control over what is active

-Defending herself or throwing cards causes a minimal drain. But activating cards causes a massive toll, all increasing the higher the card. The joker being the most powerful, leaves her weak and almost immobile after she uses it

-This means both she and her opponent(s) have to gamble. Should she risk putting high value cards in a defensive spin? Should she risk throwing high value cards? Should her opponent(s) risk aiming at high value cards? Knowing fully well that she will be powerful but drained afterwards? Or aim at lower values, knowing she could have the energy to use a high value card when needed

-She can only throw five cards at once and defend herself with five cards

>>Two face cards (jack, queen, king, joker) cannot be activated in one session. If two are hit, Revna won't use any ability and collapse from exhaustion. If she already used a face card, she cannot use any card that will combine together to equal ten or more. [So a jack and a six for example]. Again, she will collapse from exhaustion and nothing will summon

>>>It is possible to kill the summons. Which will automatically deactivate that card. Similarly, you can 'kill' card activated Revna. Which will automatically deactivate the card and return her to her normal state, now weakened and drained of energy

City of origin: City of Wisdom, moved to the City of Prosperity

Weapon: None, other than the deck of cards that are paired with her ability

Palpad: Yes

While a majority of her District slept in anticipation for the next day's Reaping. Revna decides to stay awake, cunning silver eyes glaring towards two people she had come to consider as friends. They all hide within her family's barn. Nearby, sheep baa or lightly walk around from within their pens. On a normal day, she would 'wake up early' to attend to these sheep. Cleaning up after them and opening up the pens so they can graze on the grass within their lands. Today, she would be allowed to sleep in, which she foolishly doesn't take advantage of.

She holds her cards close, confidence growing as she notices her friends place less chips on the table with each passing second. They must have bad cards. But could they be bluffing? Deciding to take the risk, she pushes all her chips forward. Her grin falters slightly when one of her friend's does the same, while the other folds. It vanishes completely when they reveal better cards than her. She lost.

"Of course!" Revna shouts, frustrated. Her friends laugh and shake their heads.

"You must stop being so overly confident. Be more cautious Revna" one says with a chuckle.

"Sometimes risks are necessary. It just hurts when you fail... but it worked last time!" Revna reminds them, thinking about the previous night when she somehow bankrupted both of them. They both smile and roll their eyes. One of them pales, just now noticing the rising sun from the window behind Revna. "We should call it a night. We have to get ready for Reaping. See you there Revna."

...

Revna can't help but glance up at the horizon while sneaking back home. She pauses to stare at it. It truly was a beautiful sight. Was it possible this could be the last time she sees it? She banishes that thought and continues her pursuit home. It was foolish to be nervous about those low odds anyway.

By the time her parents were awake, she had finished putting on her favorite high wasted baggy pants along with a cute white shirt. They couldn't afford dresses, but she didn't mind. She is quick to warmly say her goodbyes to her parents before leaving to attend the Reaping, yawning the whole way.

She was quickly regretting staying up all night. Oh well, she can nap after the Reaping, it was likely that she wouldn't be picked anyway. She may be unlucky when it comes to card games, but this was her last Reaping. The odds have been in her favor for years. She was confident it would remain the same again. I feel bad for whoever gets picked... But I am too much of a coward to do anything about it. Despite feeling confident, Revna still nervously fiddles with a deck of cards while she walks.

"I hope, in another life, you can forgive my actions and see that they were right"

ᴜꜱᴇʀɴᴀᴍᴇ / RaRaRasputin
ɴᴀᴍᴇ / Lumen
ɴɪᴄᴋɴᴀᴍᴇ / None
ɢᴇɴᴅᴇʀ / ᴘʀᴏɴᴏᴜɴꜱ / She/her
ᴀɢᴇ / 4 years
ʙʀᴇᴇᴅ / Gray fox

ꜱᴇxᴜᴀʟ ᴘʀᴇꜰᴇʀᴇɴᴄᴇ / None
ʀᴏᴍᴀɴᴛɪᴄ ᴘʀᴇꜰᴇʀᴇɴᴄᴇ / Bisexual

ᴘᴇʀꜱᴏɴᴀʟɪᴛʏ / Skittish, she dislikes being put in a place that is filled with large dogs. She is easily frightened but gets angry when others point it out. She can be cruel and blunt but always does things with good intentions. She does care about the other canines- even the scary androids, who she pities, but she doesn't show it since she usually hides from them. Despite her being a pup killer, she is a pacifist by nature (I swear xD).

—ʟɪᴋᴇꜱ / Being up high or hiding in tight spaces, napping in the sun, seafood.

—ᴅɪꜱʟɪᴋᴇꜱ / Pups, she will kill them when given the chance- but only so they don't have to continue living in the organization, (it's also how she got her scars)
She dislikes the organization in general. She hates larger dogs and will usually try to hide from them. Loud noises are also frightening to her.

ᴡᴇᴀᴋɴᴇꜱꜱᴇꜱ / She is small, so she isn't a threat to larger dogs, unless she can take them by surprise and get very, very, lucky.

ꜰᴇᴀʀꜱ / Larger dogs, loud noises, the androids.

ᴀᴘᴘᴇᴀʀᴀɴᴄᴇ / A small fox that is more black than pale. It's difficult to make out the distinct silver line across her back and tail amongst her dark coat. The tip of her ear, muzzle, neck, stomach, and one paw is pale while the rest of her fur is a mix of blacks and dark grays. Her eyes are dark brown. She has deep scars on her left hip and neck from nearly being killed by larger dogs.

ʜɪꜱᴛᴏʀʏ / She has never once known freedom. She was born at a zoo and lived most of her life there. Perhaps she would've lived her whole life there. Happy, carefree, surrounded by friends. Until a hyena took it away from her.
Perhaps it was a sick joke that they brought back a fox along with a hyena. Maybe she was meant to be a simple snack to the bigger dogs. Regardless, she found a calling for her, even in a place like this. She could live by hiding and survive by extinguishing new life before it has a chance to be corrupted. She will do whatever it takes to give these pups something she never had- freedom.

ᴄʀᴜꜱʜ ᴀɴᴅ/ᴏʀ ᴍᴀᴛᴇ / None
ᴘᴀꜱᴛ ᴍᴀᴛᴇ(ꜱ) / None
ᴋɪɴ / Her family, to her knowledge, is still alive at the zoo

ʜᴇᴀᴅᴄᴀɴᴏɴꜱ / Apparently, gray foxes can climb trees. So she'll be cat-like, sitting up high so others can't easily "get" her.

ᴘᴀʟᴘᴀᴅ / Yes

Since Maverick didn't have any known family nor any real possessions to his name, he simply moves towards the train with a heavy heart. He couldn't help but feel jealous of Lilith. She had someone to fight for, all he really had was his anger. He sighs, holding a hand up to his forehead. I'm so foolish, why did I volunteer again?

A sudden shout makes him pause and turn around. A woman was running through a crowd of Peacekeepers. She shoves one away and practically falls forward, but is caught by Maverick. She clutches his shirt and stares up at him with a desperate and tearful gaze. "Thank you!" She shouts. "You saved my son's life! Thank you!" She cries. Maverick smiles and gently steadies her back onto her feet.

"It's no problem ma'am" he tells her kindly.

"Please, take this" she says while pressing something into his hand. "It's not much, but it's something to show my appreciation." A sudden burning sensation hits Maverick's throat and he glances away dismissively. He blinks away a wave of tears that threatened to spill.

"I can't accept this" he tells her while reaching his hand out to return it to her.

"Then survive long enough to return it." All around her, Peacekeepers swarmed in, grabbing her arms to drag her away. "Good luck sir! Thank you!" She calls out.

After determining that the item was safe to bring to the Games, the Peacekeepers allow Maverick to finally board the train. He glances down at the item, staring at a small silver ring. Most people would throw away the cheap thing, but Maverick, having never been allowed to own an item of his own, gratefully wore it with a small smile.

Lilith's words gave Maverick strength that he didn't even realize that he had. So his vaccines had helped people in need? He grins and turns to question Lilith about her past. Then thinks better of it. He didn't want to grow too attached to her. If she died-

He inhales sharply, already dreading that possibility. He almost misses her final question to him. He simply turns away to once again stare out towards the crowd. "I simply want to give the people what they want- a good show!... Don't worry too much about it Lilith. I wouldn't dare go against you and the survivors of your team if it comes down to it. But I would like to show the Capitol members exactly how dangerous I could've been" he explains ominously.

"You seem to have everything figured out- both how to obtain information and why I volunteered" Maverick responds with an amused chuckle. He glances away to stare out towards the crowd, who all looked relieved that the Reaping was over. They would be able to live a somewhat safe life for another year. His gentle gaze almost waters slightly- for once, he actually did something to help them out. "It wasn't so bad at first. When I got taken away to 'work' for the Capitol. I liked the idea of helping others. Until I found out that any medicine or vaccine that they were able to create never spread to the lower districts." He glares towards the ground and clenches his fists.

"Death doesn't scare me. I don't particularly wish to kill you or any of the tributes. I simply wish to show the Capitol my rage before I pass." He smiles. "You don't need to lie. I'm happy that you value your own life... You seem close with your sister." Again, he glances up at Lilith to offer her a kind smile. "If it comes down to it- if I am the last Red team member alive, I will allow you to return back to her... Just-" his gaze drops again. "Just, let me die by my own terms" he requests darkly.

A chuckle bubbles out of Maverick. He was beginning to like this strange girl. She almost reminded him of himself. She was self aware of herself and how others perceived her- and she used that to her advantage. "Very interesting. What other rumors have you overheard?" Maverick asks while turning his head slightly. He laughs again at her final comments.

"Unfortunately, it's true. I'm nothing but a human experiment to them... I don't know what compelled me to volunteer. Perhaps I just wanted to see how the Capitol would react to see me potentially walk straight into my own death... Perhaps it was something else entirely..." He sighs and shakes his head. Look at me, rambling on like a fool. "I do hope you survive, so you can see your sister again" he tells her while offering a kind smile.

She frowns. Why was he surprised? Of course she was eager to kill. They had a reputation to maintain. They were apart of the 'Careers.' They had to strong, had to be deadly, had to be heartless. Their enemies would be the same, they would expect the same, so one had to be prepared. "How will I kill you?" She bristles slightly, does he know that I am currently powerless? "We'll just have to wait and see" she replies ominously. She lifts up her chin and grins. "Too weak? Now, that's an interesting thing to reveal..." What is his ability? Is it worth stealing? Could he be a far ranged fighter?

She shrugs at his final question. "We'll have stylist. Our audience is cruel. They'll want to pretty us up before slaughtering us" she answers bitterly.
...

"Heh, I don't really feel like fighting. My power is very uncomfortable to use." His gaze softens as he glances at Lilith. "I do apologise, my power will be a major inconvenience for you and your team."

A surprised gasp escapes out of Maverick at Lilith's words. "How did you know such things?" He asks quietly, keeping his voice low so that nobody could overhear them.

How strange. Kara expected him to either be terrified or angry by her words. While he was scared- which was expected given their situation. She hadn't expected him to be cracking jokes about his own death.

Ever so slightly, she smiles. "Don't sell yourself so short. After all, we are District One- the strongest District. Our presence alone should terrify the others, which is unfortunate... It's not fun fighting someone who has no will to fight." While her words sounded slightly encouraging in a dark way, her gaze remained hard, with zero ounce of sympathy.

How boring...

Every year the same thing happened- Kara was forced to waste her morning at the Reaping. Didn't these Capitol scum realize that she had better things to do than stand here? She watches as families clutch eachother nervously, not sharing the same feelings as them, the odds of her being picked were small and if she were chosen. No doubt she would win. She could take down a team by herself!

Her confidence only rises when a familiar name is called out. "Kara Rhys!" The announcer shouts. She grins and moves onstage. There wasn't a flicker of fear within her gaze. She would make her family proud! "You will be on team blue" the old announcer informs her.

She goes silent while waiting for the male tribute to be chosen. A shocked look appearing on her face when she realizes that they were on different teams. Did the Capitol really expect Districts to slaughter eachother?

She glances at the boy- Atticus Redding, with an amused expression. Whatever, you are going down. "Good luck" she whispers to Atticus venomously.

The heavy smell of cleaning supplies surrounds the air. Chains hold a man's wrists up as he slouches onto the ground, resting on his knees as he patiently awaits his fate. His eyes stare towards the ground. They were clouded, life-less, not a single thought moved through his head. Nearby sat heavy machinery. They were used to steal his blood, taking away the white blood cells before returning it to his body. He was important, he was immune to every germ or poison the capital could throw at him. He had the potential to create the base that would cure many diseases. Never once had they asked for his permission. District 8 would send more than textiles and uniforms to the Capitol. They would also send his blood. He believed in the the old saying: 'an eye for an eye.' He would get his revenge one day and they would pay in their own blood.

Darkened eyes look up to gaze at the door where a Peacekeeper emerges. He simply lifts up his face, not wanting to fight right now. Instead, he would save his strength. The Peacekeeper roughly shoves a mask onto his face before unchaining him. He collapse onto the floor and winces when the Peacekeeper lifts him up. His sore muscles screaming out in pain from the effort of moving. They give him a simple white shirt and jeans to wear, since he wasn't going to be picked, there was no effort in having him dress up. The shirt was too big for him, but he didn't care about that.

That's when they finally release him. He pauses to stare up at the sky, blinking from the harsh light. He knew the Peacekeepers wouldn't stray far, but they also wouldn't stay too close, they didn't want anyone to find out about their little project. He scoffs at this thought and continues forward towards the Reaping.

He wasn't paying attention to the announcer. Instead he stood with his head down, enjoying the feeling of the sun on his skin. He nearly jumps when he hears a gasp. He glances up, seeing a young boy be called. He knew the kid wouldn't survive. The kid looked terrified and when he limped fully into view, he saw a cast on the boy's leg and crutches under his frail arms. With a sigh he lifts a hand up, then winces when a hand snaps out and grabs his arm, tearing it back down before it could be spotted.

"I volunteer!" He shouts, his voice muffled by the mask. "I volunteer! I will take his place!" Slowly, heads turn at the sound of his muffled voice. The undercover woman standing next to him glares at him, but it was already too late.

Without them knowing, all these eyes protected him. He moves towards the stage and gazes at the announcer. "Maverick Ashenfall?" He questions. "Team red!" He declares. Oblivious, the crowd claps for the man that saved the kid. But his pride is shared by Lilith, who did the same for her sister. Maverick simply nods in greeting towards Lilith, but says nothing as he gazes at the crowd with the same life-less stare.
