Hyolyn could only really painfully grimace under the guise of a polite smile. They truthfully didn't have much to say in any event, and was more than willing to let the conversation run away without them. The jewelry was insanely pretty though, and Hyolyn made a mental note to find... Thalia was it, and buy from her. With that in mind, they gently and carefully began stepping back physically. Already, they could tell that very little attention was on them anymore, having only given short answers without much information. And with the Queen's attention focused on Thalia and her work both present and potential, beings swept into the ever moving river of the marketplace traffic was almost as easy as pilfering a bag of money from an unsuspecting old lady. Not that Hyolyn had, it was just a figure of speech, please don't arrest them

Slipping through the familiar traffic, Hyolyn kept their head down as they hurried back to the tavern. That grocery run had taken way way way too long and they were pretty sure that Owner would be at the least somewhat impatient. It wasn't quite running, more like walking briskly, but still Hyolyn had to stop to catch their breath for a moment before slipping into their place of work. The morning rush should have already died down somewhat, but still, they did a quick cursory check of the floor, just to see what what there was to do

"Wha- don't call me that! Also I don't want to be leader, what the hell am I supposed to lead when Cassiopeia's the one with the weird tingly 'ooo I know where the star thread is' senses." Ophiuchus immediately protested. Really focusing on the big picture here, huh. But still, implicitly they had already voiced their opinion on the matter just by objecting against being the leader. Splitting up was the more pragmatic option. It wasn't as if their big was small enough that splitting up was a detriment, in fact it could be a strength to form smaller more manageable groups while still being able to cover more ground than they would as one group.

SAN

Age:
20

Personality:
... Not much of anything actually. Having been one of their oldest subjects, the lab has stripped a lot of what San had once been into an empty blank slate. Personality as sterile as the walls of the lab. He prefers not to think for himself and simply follow orders, listless until given a task in which he springs to life with terrifying efficiency. What San excels at, however, is pretending. He can pretend to have a personality, multiple actually, and imitate pale reflections of human emotions. Sometimes he is the cheery, happy go-lucky big brother figure, always gently wiping spilled blood off other hybrid's cheeks and gently scolding them when they go overboard. Other times he doesn't tolerate anything other than complete subjugation, snappish and demanding. It all depends on what others expect him to be and he has gotten scarily efficient at ascertaining what someone wants out of him. There are a few things that do consistently elicit emotions, hinting that San isn't as blank and empty as he likes to believe, but those are few and far between

Appearance:
San is a relatively unassuming person of Asian decent, standing at a respectable 176 cm (5'9). Perhaps the only odd thing about him is a streak of white hair that falls over his left bangs, soft as the rest of his midnight black locks with all evidence pointing to the streak as being natural. Perhaps the other striking feature he has are the high cheekbones, a jawline sharp enough to slice through flesh, and predatory red eyes narrowed as a cat's eyes would, but all those fade to the background whenever San smiles, everything seeming trivial when faced with a sunshine dimpled grin. He has broad shoulders but a deceptively tiny waist, his body built from years of experimentation. He always does his best to cover his skin, leaving the evidence of human dissections and experimentation hidden under layers of cloth. Stop his head sits a pair of fluffy black cat ears that replace his human ears, a matching slender tail attached to his spine often seemingly having a mind of its own. If you ever want to know how San really feels, his tail and ears will mostly give him away.

Or so people like to think

Fused with:
Black Leopard

Abilities:
This fusion gives San feline traits outside of his physical cat traits, such as exceptional balance, increased night vision, heightened senses, and an uncanny ability to sense danger though this stays as a gut feeling and not as an actual manifested power. He also has incredible leg muscles, able to leap much like a cat if he angles his body properly and is generally much faster that average. Because he is specifically a leopard, he is very good at camouflage and opportunistic in nature, adapting fluidly to any environment he's put in. In addition to this, San has claws made of keratin, though they can be a handful to maintain as they rapidly grow in order to combat the fragile nature of his nails. Much like a cat, he is most active during the night and can be caught nesting or purring.

Weaknesses:
As a jack of all trades, he is a master of none. His skills are average at best and while he could invest time into perfecting them, he chooses not to. Despite having a very high pain tolerance and seemingly unbreakable smile, the moment his threshold is exceeded, it becomes surprisingly easy to break him as even the strongest of mountains crumble if enough has been hacked away. He's also very dependent on others, viewing himself as nothing more than a tool for others to use. He does not take rejection well and will do anything for others just to find a place to be accepted and belong. Truly the best way to take down San is to not target him physically but mentally. His body may be strong but his mind is such a fragile little thing

He also hates vegetables. Perhaps that is his ultimate weakness; leafy greens

Other:
He likes to call himself a cat. Not a leopard, just a cat. Who knows why
For various reasons, San only ever speaks with his hands

MASUYO

Age:
23

Personality:
Masuyo is a bit of a childish personality, never having quite grown up properly. Approaching everything with a black or white mindset and infinitely curious, science is a world of wonders for her, full of endless possibilities and undiscovered wonders. If there is a new frontier to explore, Masuyo will go and explore it. Contrary to what many believe, Masuyo does have morals, they're just not aligned with many others. There are lines that he will never cross but what those lines are, no one has found just yet. She is very kind in some ways, taking meticulous care of her subjects and making sure that they are in optimal health. There is also a large amount of respect that he has for other scientists and co-workers, admiring and learning from their work. Most of the time, she's found up late pulling all nighters in order to theorize about her next project.

Appearance:
Honestly if you thought that Masuyo was a child no one would blame you. Standing at a very respectable 144cm (4'9), any and all lab coats he wears is bound to become a train, dragging behind him as if he was some weird bride with a single minded obsession to be lawfully wedded to science. Her navy black hair is always tied up revealing a fresh undercut, brown eyes always covered by the curtain of hair. She looks much like a sweet older sister, with a soft figure that seems perfect for dolling out hugs and warm smiles, often wearing warm clothes under a thick lab coat.

Weapons:
Can and will give a university level lecture on physics and quarks in particular to anyone who will listen. You are guaranteed to walk out of the seminar having learned nothing and having more questions than anything
Actually kind of physically weak so will rely on others for help

Other:
Works more in logistics and theoretical studies rather than actually making hybrids. Much more brains than brawn
has a fondness over lizards and his hypothetical Magnum Opus would be a lizard hybrid

Oh so this was one of those Queens, so obsessed with tracking her citizen's movements that she just had to know every little thing. It was really, the only other real option. Hyolyn would admit, Sage played the part of a benevolent queen well, even managing to trick them into thinking for even a brief moment that she was a Queen who actually kept the citizens wellbeing with good intentions. Bravo, Your Highness. Bravo. If Hyolyn had to admit something that they did find impressive about the queen without any backhanded complements, it would be her ability to manage so many conversations at once. They supposed that always talking with stubborn old fools in the council or whatnot came in handy in these sort of situations.

"High'ness, there ain't be many taverns in yer kingdom." They pointed out in a tone that spoke of amusement more than anything. "Jus' look fer the loudes' place in town and y've found it. Be sure ta drink responsib'y, tho'. Won't do well fer High'ness ta take an audience hungo'er." Winking almost conspiratally, Hyolyn groaned internally at the horrible joke. Mother look at them, making nicities with a royal. Ugh

"Aish, no 'ne special." Hyolyn waved off with a laugh. "'m jus' a barmaid fer now." It was weird how a queen was so interested in commoners, memorizing others names and even taking interest in those she had never seen before. Many other royals were happy to perch on their little towers, watching the little vermin scurry around the prison they built themself. Sure, some where better than others where the cage was more gilded and covered in beautiful drapes but in the end they were all made with the intention to entrap their citizens whether through loyal nationalism or fear. But Sage seemed to actually care in some capacity. Hyolyn still didn't really trust her but still gave her their respect. Not enough to give any name, even if it was an alias.

"Booyeah! Get it!" Hyolyn laughed, pumping their fist. While they didn't need to take on another job, it was always nice to stock up on more resources in the case that something happened or they needed to leave suddenly. They were about to hash out a few details but another voice interrupted them.

"I do hope I'm not interrupting anything." An enchanting woman apologized, greeting Blossom as well. It wasn't a challenge to even guess who the speaker was, being one of the first people Hyolyn forced themself to remember after first coming into Talmar. Her majesty the Queen, Sage. Being in the presence of anyone who wasn't a commoner like them was always uncomfortable and being before the queen was just plain weird.

Shifting nervously, Hyolyn nervously bent a knee. "High'ness." They muttered, glancing away. Unfortunately it meant that they met Thalia's eyes, catching her own nervousness. Rolling their eyes, Hyolyn pat the younger on the back with a good natured huff. "It seems like Yer' Majesty's reputation has proceeded ya. Th's poor one and 'eir companion be positively shakin'. Don't be going roun'd scarn' yer subjects, mhm? We just be visitn' common'ers."

Hearing Blossom, Hyolyn had to hold back a scoff. Nothing came free. Perhaps an edgy sentiment but it was mostly true when you wandered from place to place. Lodging was always repaid with physical labour, food with money, kindness with favours. It was how the world spun round. "Tell ya what, I have a feeln' that Imma be a real common buye' for yer wares. How abou' we strike a deal. I help work for ye, already have pre'y good knowledge 'bout plants 'n all so no need to teach me much, 'n at the end of th' week I get a wee bit 'a ginger 'n tumeric. It'll be good for the both of us. Unless ya'lready got an assistant in which case, bummer."

Oh great, right off the bat there was already a divide in the group. Rolling his eyes, Ophiuchus eyed how the group was currently divided. Ariadne had chosen Leo's group and if he was to be objective and go with exactly how he felt, Ophiuchus would have too. They valued physical proof above all else, more willing to follow what their eyes could see rather than gut feelings but for the sake of keeping everyone together and making sure someone at least somewhat responsible accompanied each group, they walked over to Cassiopeia. "Let's hope this hunch of yours doesn't lead us off a cliff and into a black hole." They groused

Although bristling at the use of "Ophi" (god, who gave Leo the right to call them that. No one, thats who. god.), the older weaver brought up the rear of the group, making sure that everyone was somewhat accounted for. He couldn't be blamed if he accidentally forgot to count some of the more annoying ones. Although it was true that Cygnus was much more than just some air head woman who always tried to push for romance (because she was... lets be honest), Ophiuchus couldn't care much. Sure she corralled the troublemakers and sure she was a hard worker but it wasn't her fault that others couldn't see anything more. He just didn't care enough to ever say anything. Pausing at the threshold, Ophiuchus let out a slow breath. It had been years, the outside wasn't as dangerous as when he had been a child. He was older, wiser, better. They weren't that small depended child. While the Outside might not have changed, they have. Nodding a few times, Ophiuchus quickly followed the rest of the group, waiting for the rest of the cabin to empty out before closing the door and locking it firmly behind them

Scooping the rest of the broken yolks and whites into the cloth and tying it up firmly so not much could leak out, Hyolyn placed the soiled fabric back into the basket and drew forth two whole eggs. They were their own purchase, only two of the eight that they had originally bought but they didn't really need the eggs. "Here, I feel bad tha' you lost yer poor eggs ta us. I's not much bu' take 'em anyways." Putting them in Thalia's own bag, Hyolyn brushed the dust off their skirt and gave the other a smile. "Jus' be careful of where you go, yea? It be real crowded 'round these parts."

"Oh, sweetness! 'ow much do I owe ya?" Hyolyn cheered, face lighting up as they cradled the herb like it was made of gold. Considering the industry that they worked in, it wasn't that far from the truth. "I'llso take som' ginger if ya 'ave any. I thou' they're mostly fer tummy ache, thou'?" As they were fishing out their own coins to pay Blossom, they were jostled, the hollow clink of coins rattling around the pouch making the other stiffen and replace the small bag. Doing a quick pat down to make sure that nothing of note had been stolen, they glanced down to see a girl with black hair cleaning up a swath of broken eggs.

"'s all good, darlin'." They reassured, pulling out the thin brown cloth that had been used to line their basket. "Here, put th' brokn' ones here, We'll clean 'em up real good."

"Nah, 's my faul'. Didn' loose 'nthin' did ya?" Hyolyn checked in, both hands out just to steady the other. Glancing at the other's basket to make sure that nothing had spilled out, they gasped as they remembered part of their own shopping list. Medicine. "Hey, yer tha' medicine lady, righ'? D'ya have any plants tha' I can take off yer hands? M' mostly looken' fer... ngyah, what were they call' again?" A litany of foreign languages spilled out from their mouth as they struggled slightly to find the right word. "T-tumeric, I think? Hon'stly jus' lookn' fer 'angover herbs but if yer willn' ta sell anythn' t'a fo reigner I'll take 'em." The bright grin on their face was a little out of place, more like a smirk as one side of their face refused to move even for something as mundane as a smile. But still, it was almost like looking at a tibetan mastiff. Big fuffy puppy. No thoughts, just puppy eyes

The market was busy as it always was, the morning rush of buyers flooding the streets and the loud crows of hawkers filling the air. It felt like a universal truth that markets were always busy, the swaths of towns that Hyolyn had once traversed through all bustling around the stalls and wares, the heart of the city as people flowed in and out of it. With a wicker basket in one arm, Hyolyn perused the wares, handing out coins when fit and loading wares into the basket. Vegetables and seeds, cuts of meat, ingredients for hang over cures, the normal things that anyone would need. Striking up meager conversation with the stall owners that they did know, Hyolyn tried to do their best to keep their trip nice and short. The drag of long skirts and heavy jackets dirtied under the busy footsteps, and they kept their head down to trudge through the crowd. They narrowly avoided bumping into others, but in doing so, ran straight into someone else. While neither of the things that they were carrying scattered, the small bump doing little to jostle the items, it did have the both of them stumbling back. "Sorry there 'luv" They immediately apologized, looking up to see that it was the local healer who's name Hyolyn couldn't actually remember at the moment. Something to do with flowers.

Honestly, Ophiuchus couldn't be bothered to care about the whole leader thing, more than happy to sit back and watch them all trip over themselves and fail, all while saying "I told you so." Leadership, adventure, even the maelstrom of dots that briefly flashed before his eyes, none of that interested or were of any significance to him. All that mattered was getting the star thread back and going back to weaving. "We can discuss this whole leader thing afterwards." They grunted, walking towards the door. "The sooner we move the faster we can get this whole thing over with."

"Let them be, we all know that a leader won't stop them from going at each other." Ophiuchus snorted, rolling their eyes at this. "But for what its worth, Leo isn't the worst one to pick. At least he won't accidentally lead us into a trap or tangle us up in our own stars." Nabbing his water bottle still lying on the kitchen counter, he tucked it into his bag. To be honest he wanted to stay and not go outside. It wasn't fun, there was no real adventure to be found, and it was dangerous. They couldn't understand the enthusiasm everyone else seemed to have in spades about the expedition but whatever, he was a sourpuss but they wouldn't ruin the fun for others. Well, not too much at least, he amended with a private snicker to himself

The storm thundered down on the old leaky roof sorely in need of repairs, water cascading down onto the well trodden roads. Pouring down with a vengeance, it made even the hearth shiver and wood shrivel up. But the brightly lit bar, a lighthouse in the tumultuous downpour, it was nothing but merriment and cheer. Tankards flowed and cheers arose, rambunctious laughter spilling across the floor. Though most of Telmar was tucked way in their sheets and whisked away in a personal wonderland, some even passed out on oak tables and alcohol soaked floors, the tavern was still alive as the few still nursing their drink mournfully asking for a refill. Rolling their eyes, Hyolyn plucked the glass out of a patrons hand. "We're cuttn' ya off." They huffed with a bit of a smile. "Rest up, we'll brew up a tonic come mornin'." A sad little merp escaped the very very drunk customer before slumping on the table. Sighing, Hyolyn made their rounds around the tavern, picking up empty glasses and gently cutting patrons off. Sighing, they glanced outside where water lapped at the door, the roaring fire keeping the cold at bay. The torrential rain reminded them of home, right shoulder throbbing at the memory. Turning away, Hyolyn sighed and returned to the kitchens to help prepare for closing.

"Don't be a hard-ass, you're still a baby. Not everyone can weave stars fresh out of whatever cycle we're infinitely trapped in. Until you get to Sagittarius' age who's so senile that all they can do is annoy others, take your time." Ophiuchus grunted, roughly patting Cassiopeia's shoulder before shuffling off to preemptively go pack a bag. What they had to pack for a intergalactic journey to find something as nebulous as star thread, they had no idea but hey. At least snacks and water was a good start. Maybe a change of clothes and a portable loom with regular old yarn just so they wouldn't get bored on the trip. Contemplating for a moment, he also put the multiple first aid boxes in the bag as well. Knowing the group, they'd find some way to injure themselves even if it was just walking across the Milky Way. For once, they were glad that their wardrobe consisted of baggy jackets and cargo pants, affording them plenty of pockets to shove miscellaneous items into.

Briefly, Ophiuchus wondered if it was worth taking a pair of scissors but dismissed it. If they needed to cut any thread, they could just do it with their teeth. Slinging the bag over their shoulder, they very briefly fluffed up their hair, running the loosened fork on the loom through the ruffled green strands before staring at their unfinished galaxy tapestry. It was irksome, leaving something unfinished but with the threads running out he supposed that he would finally have to leave the safety of his room. The last time that happened... Ophiuchus shuddered at the thought and swiftly turned around. It was counterproductive to linger on the past. He'd just have to suck it up and deal with it. Hopefully.
