Everyone hates on Protag because of how he talks about Sayori in the first few parts of the game. If you do think about it though. He includes Sayori as one of the "beautiful girls" at the beginning, when Sayori submits the "GET OUT OF MY HEAD" poem Protag rushes to her house, and to prove that he's a good person, he wonders if entering Sayori's bedroom is a breach of privacy, before telling himself that it doesn't matter because of Sayori. He calls himself selfish at the end of the game if the choice ingame was made so Protag accepts Sayori's confession. He's a decent human being. In fact, that's all he's supposed to be. A human being with a human personality. He likes manga and anime, cute women, and... That's about it but yeah. He didn't join the literature club because of cupcakes, he joined to be with the girls.
