"I don't like that," Zigzag muttered, mostly to himself, digging his fingernails into his own flesh through the material. "I don't want a stupid future."

"I don't want to be your friend," Zigzag replied. "I don't want to drink tea and read with you. It doesn't matter if you see me as an equal, because nobody else will. To strangers, I will always be your pet. I hate that." He fiddled with the edge of his sleeve, one of his many nervous habits. His fingers trembled ever so slightly. "A vicious master who wants to hurt me is better than one who wants to be my friend without knowing me."

Zigzag stared at her hand for a moment. "I don't touch people," he said, as if it was completely obvious and it was insane for her to even offer. "And I'd rather be killed than owned." He looked up, or rather less down, and glared.

"Please tell me you're not going to spit nonsense at me for the rest of my life," Zigzag snapped, yet his hand came up to his throat again. He didn't like the way that sounded, and he was growing more distrust for Rebeka by the second. If I just ran now, would I survive? He thought to himself.

"All right," Val said. He went to reach out and touch her, but backed away and headed off. He trusted his sense of direction well enough. "Follow me. Is there any specific place you like?"

"So, the whole 'yeah I live in an impressive ancient building' thing compensating for your lack of an interesting personality or is there another flaw I have to look out for?" Zigzag asked, making a slightly annoyed face.

"Me too," Val replied, honestly. "I can take you somewhere, if you'd like?" He smiled softly at her again.

Zigzag blinked at her for a few silent moments before answering. "I guess," he said. "Why?"

Val laughed a little. He couldn't help it - he loved cats. He just wanted to bundle her up in his arms and snuggle, but he had to remember this was not Arion. She would probably not let him bury his face in her fluffy ears. He barely knew Cat, and he didn't want to make her uncomfortable. "You're not so mean, I think. Are you hungry?" he asked. He hadn't eaten breakfast in favor of sleeping.

Val looked at her, the gentleness in his eyes completely gone. "Don't tell me how to control my slave, okay?" he said, his voice the same, but his gaze unblinking and unsettling. He turned back to Cat, back to normal once again. "There's no need to turn into a cheetah, though it is quite a pretty form. Fights brew often enough without looking for them," he added.

Zigzag approached his new master cautiously, face dark. He didn't know what she was like, and he didn't like it. Briefly, he considered trying to hold his tongue. He knew it wouldn't work, and gave to idea up quickly. Besides, it's not like he could keep everything inside twenty four seven for the rest of his life. She would see soon enough.

Zigzag glanced up at Rebeka and then looked away. He didn't like that stare. Maybe he was paranoid, but his hands brushed against his neck, the tiny gemstone clinking ever so softly against the silver it was hanging from, and he shuddered. He was owned. He didn't like it. What would his proud, pureblood mother say?

Val's face went pale, and his blue-gray eyes looked hurt. "Why would I call you a mutt? You're not a soulless animal, you're a person."

"Hello," Val said in his usual soft voice, coming up to Cat. He smiled at her a little, even though something inside him ached at the thought of owning a halfbreed. "I'm Val. And you are?"

Zigzag started at his own name. He felt like collapsing in on himself, but he shuffled forward anyway, stuffing his hands in his pockets and put on his most unenthusiastic expression.

(I'm sorry I'm so late!! I forgot to check before I went to sleep. My apologies.)

Val was late. He was always late, honestly, he didn't know why he was surprised at this point. Two thousand years and he still never managed to leave with enough time to get where he was going before the action started. He quietly made his way toward the front to get a good look at who was up for auction. It was a girl. No one else seemed to be taking an interest, and she seemed nice enough. "Two hundred thousand," he said, his voice loud enough to be heard but still soft and fuzzy at the edges.

Zigzag had picked the place furthest from the other slaves to stand. He felt kind of awkward - tall, skinny, and out of place - but he just tapped his fingers against his leg to get rid of some of that nervous feeling. It didn't really work, yet the illusion of it working was actually quite helpful. He was certain no one would want him. He was just no use as a slave, too thin and breakable and clumsy and mean. Even if he did manage to find a master, they wouldn't keep him for long.

Name:
Zigzag Eburnean Black
Age:
95, looks to be in his late teens
Gender:
Male, as far as everyone knows
Appearance (Pictures work):
While Zigzag is particularly tall - well over six foot - he's so skinny that his height isn't intimidating in the slightest. His ribs stick out a little too much, and he pretty much looks like pale skin stretched over bone. His features are just between sharp and soft, with cat-like yellow eyes and slightly curly dark brown hair. A tattoo-like symbol is on his wrist, and it changes colors and shapes with his mood. Usually, he prefers comfortable clothing, like simple sweaters, but he doesn't mind going a little fancier, as long as it sticks to his mostly black and gray color palette. Instead of collars, he wears chokers.
Personality:
He is, to put it simply, a pain. It's not that he's whiny or wants attention, in fact, he'll mostly stay to himself if given the chance. However, he has a sharp tongue and a nonexistent verbal filter that can get him in serious trouble. Often, he doesn't know when to shut up, and it's not like he's in any shape to defend himself or even flee when his mouth starts something more physical. Surprisingly enough, he's an introvert with a passion for reading and a deep love for cats. He's incredibly jumpy and doesn't like people touching him until he trusts them, which never happens. He's also been known to outright defy others if he decides he doesn't like them.
Power:
Animal communication. It's pretty much useless.
Class (High or Low):
Low
Master/Slave (Depends on class. High class is looking for a slave while low class is looking for a master):
Slave to Rebeka
Other:
»Surprisingly enough, he trusts Val fairly well, and is a (sort of?) effective ward against bullies for him«

Name:
Val Enbriu
Age:
2,376, physical age is about 16 or 17
Gender:
Male (maybe?? no one's really sure.)
Appearance (Pictures work):
Val is small, and easily mistaken for younger than his actual age. He barely reaches five foot, with wide, gentle, blue-gray eyes, and pastel blue hair. His skin is pale, and dotted with the occasional freckle, a few scattered on his face as well. He likes comfortable clothing and hoodies, but worries about his appearance sometimes, so he'll wear nicer stuff if he's going to be around many people at once.
Personality:
Val is just as sweet as he looks. He speaks quietly, apologizes often, and gets flustered very easily. Most of his time is spent staring off into space or writing, and he disconnects from reality on a daily basis, usually composing something in his head. If you startle him out of his daze, he is likely to shriek or yelp, since scaring him is not a difficult task. If he gets too emotional, he'll start to cry, and it can be unsettling for someone who doesn't know him. It's hard to anger him, but if someone does, he hits where it hurts, his fury fizziling out quickly afterwards.
Power:
Weather manipulation. While relatively powerful, any large feats are tiring and require much concentration.
Class (High or Low):
High
Master/Slave (Depends on class. High class is looking for a slave while low class is looking for a master):
Cat's Master
Other:
»Has a soft(er) spot for Zigzag«

I liked it!! The metaphors and symbols in it are particularly good.

@lucky
I just want to ask - is this based off of that tumblr prompt about stars and how they catalogue your wishes? But it's super good! I'd love to see more. Are you going to continue?

@nishnosh
Your writing is always?? So?? Amazing?? I love it.

Everyone knew about fairies and dragons, banshees and vampires. They were scaled and winged, fearsome and cute. They drew attention easily. But their ability to catch the eyes of others led to their demise, leaving the Gaudium in their wake.
Gaudium never needed the fame - it just made their jobs harder. They were summoned by certain feelings, such as deep sorrow or a pure desire, and stayed until their charge was made happy. Once their work was finished, they turned to the next human they could find that met the qualifications. They were considered selfless, innocent beings, created from broken hearts and disappearing as soon as they fixed them.
To properly do what they were made for, they had to abandon anything too flashy. Sometimes their normal appearances could be a little more unique than usual - like brightly 'dyed' hair or odd colored eyes - but never anything too crazy. The only thing that could threaten their existence was their teleportation and their 'extra ability,' both of which were to be used only for aiding their human.
Unfortunately, not all Gaudium ended up doing their jobs correctly. Some outright defied the rules, while others made disastrous mistakes. A few failed to make their human happy completely. It became clear something had to be done. With lots of magic and several long years, a maze was created, designed to punish these wayward Gaudium.
You've failed. Or maybe you just mess up. It doesn't matter anymore. Because now you're stuck. As well as that, weird things have been happening in the maze. Not only is it teaching 'bad' Gaudium a lesson, but it's also killing them and driving them insane.
Now, you're forced to find a way out before your life comes to an abrupt finish. Or, worse, it isn't abrupt.

Rules:
»All pokeheroes rules apply (no cursing, nothing explicit, etc.)«
»All normal roleplay rules apply (no bunnying, powerplaying, etc.)«
»Please refrain from doing one-liners unless it's necessary«
»Yes, you get one ability of choice, but do remember it cannot alter your appearance (at least, not too much or permanently, like wings or something)«
»If I say something simply can't happen, it's for plot reasons, and please don't argue«
»Try to be nice to others, okay? It's not hard I promise«
»Anything else will be added if need be«

Full Name:
Zigzag Eburnean Yui
Nickname:
Zigzag is fine, although he'll answer to Ziggy. Don't call him Iggy.
Age:
21
Gender:
Male (probably??)
Appearance:
The best way to describe him is skinny. He's tall, over six foot, but his already small-boned frame is made even tinier by his habit of not eating for days on end, and working off more than the amount of calories he does consume. A child could wrap their hand around his wrist and their fingers would overlap, and people can sometimes be afraid to be too rough with him. If not for his too-slim body, he could be quite attractive - and he still kind of is anyway. His features are somewhere in the middle of soft and sharp, coupled with expressive, cat-like yellow eyes and slightly curly dark brown hair. Usually, he prefers black jeans and button-up, collared shirts, but he'll settle for a more casual black t-shirt and flannel. He has a love for sweaters, because he's always cold, but doesn't like to wear them where others can see him.
Personality:
Take the nicest person you know and imagine the exact opposite. That's pretty much Zigzag. He's an extreme introvert, but over the years he's been forced to actually socialize, and it's given him a serious hate for everyone near him. He's prone to insults and mean comments, no matter the circumstances, and has made others break down in tears after they only asked him for something simple. Sure, he's smart and quick to think on his feet, but nobody wants to be the one to ask him for help. As long as there's nothing to distract him or draw his attention, he'll shut up and stay silent, which can be unnerving to someone who's just heard him spit out several paragraphs of verbal abuse in a few short minutes. Really, though, all his quiet isn't healthy for him, and people have noticed a steady decline in his awareness and memory if he's left alone too long.
Ability:
Shapeshifting. He's best at cats, and can only hold it for so long. If he tries to push himself over the limit, he's been known to become sick or pass out completely.
Other:
»Been in the maze the longest«
»Suffers from mild chiraptophobia (fear of being touched) and moderate agoraphobia (fear of crowded or unsafe spaces). Most don't notice, as he does his best to hide it.«

Full Name:
Chai Teu Kralik
Nickname:
Chai, occasionally Tea
Age:
19
Gender:
Female
Appearance:
Chai is average height, maybe a bit shorter, with an average build. She's not super skinny, but she's not chubby either, and she's surprisingly strong. Her features are gentle, curving, and make her seem kind. A cute spray of freckles is scattered over her nose and cheeks, and her eyes are a normal pale blue. The most unique thing about her is her hair, which is dyed light pink, and falls between her chin and her shoulders. It's common to find her in worn, white-washed jeans and simple t-shirts or tank tops, and she likes necklaces and bracelets, but only has a few.
Personality:
Chai is sweet and good-natured - a stark contrast to Zigzag's own vicious personality. Despite their obvious differences, she loves him all the same, and is usually the one who forces him to eat. In return, he's more willing to abide by her wishes, so it's always best to get Chai on board with any idea involving the bad-tempered male. She doesn't like to use her power over him often, though, considering it cruel, and she only brings it up when necessary. Her calm, optimistic attitude can lift the mood of everyone around her, and she enjoys making people laugh.
Ability:
She can temporarily change others emotions. It's best for making someone a bit happier or keeping someone from getting angry, but she has been known to completely stop people in their tracks, though it's much more difficult and requires serious concentration. As well as that, it also only lasts a few seconds.
Other:
»Came to the maze after Zigzag«
»Openly admits she made a serious mistake and that's why she was punished. She feels she deserves it«

@Everyone
Unfortunately, I'm going to have to close this for the time being. I have four SOLs, which are super big standardized tests, coming up soon-ish meaning:
a. I have to study more (okay I have to pretend like I'm studying more)
b. My already limited time on my drawing tablet had been reduced to keep away distractions
c. No, seriously, I locked it in my closet and gave my mom the key because if I don't do that I procrastinate to death
d. Because of the pressure, my anxiety has been seriously heightened, and it was bad before all of this crap
This means that anyone currently waiting for art from me is now not!! As well as that, all orders will be rejected until further notice. Now you literally can't waste your money on my crappy attempts at finally becoming good at something!
But, in all seriousness, I'm really sorry. I hope to have this open again in a month in a half or two months, so if you still want art by then you have poor taste you should re-place your order once I make the announcement. Thank you for your understanding, and if you have any further questions, don't be afraid to ask.

Honestly, I've been working with 10+ characters at the same time for a long time, so I can definitely assure you that it gets easier. Eventually. In the mean time, write them down somewhere?? Maybe next to your computer or even on your hand - somewhere you will see it - and it'll help you remember to include all of them.

I usually just keep writing. Even if it's crap, I can edit it later and make it better, when I'm feeling more inspired. Sometimes, I listen to music or read long fanfiction, because the creativity fuels my own somehow.

People ask me this all the time and I just recently developed a method for it. I'm not sure if it'll work for you but maybe it's a place to start??
Literally just go on a walk. I know it sounds stupid, but it's surprisingly effective. Put on some of your favorite music, or maybe just hum/sing to yourself and look at tue word around you. Pick up on details, notice the way others move as they walk or how the sidewalk changes colors subtly or watch the shadows shift with the wind. After, throw every tiny detail you remember onto a list while keeping the bullets one to five words long. Find a way to incorporate and connect some of those details in your story, and let the inspiration come to you.
Honestly, I'm certain this is just a "me thing" and involves my obsession with creating worlds in perfect descriptive detail, but who knows. Maybe it can actually help someone?
