I just found a mega stone in a treasure box and gave it to my Lvl 56 Tyranitar but nothing happened. How and when will the mega stone work?

does it have a mega-bubble on it, like this charizard?
If not, then your tyranitar cannot mega evolve.

If it does, then you need to wait for it to level up before it mega evolves.

Yea, that pokemon isn't able to mega-evolve.
Only pokemon with a mega bubble (like i showed you with my charizard - that is also where the mega bubble will be found on a mega-able pokemon's profile) are able to mega evolve once given a mega stone.

Ok, does the bubble how up after they are holding the stone, or does it show up even with out the stone? Because none of the pokemon I have that SHOULD be able to mega evolve, doesn't have a bubble.

it shows up without the stone attached.

Mega-able pokemon can hatch from eggs, just like shiny pokemon and regular pokemon (just in case you wanted to know).

Mega Pokemon on this website are born with the power to mega evolve. Not every Pokemon with a mega evolution can mega evolve. :) When you hatch a Pokemon with a mega evolution, it has a chance to be able to mega evolve. This is indicated with the mega bubble on the Pokemon's profile. One way to get a mega Pokemon is to shiny hunt it and hope that you get a mega-powered in the process. It's not required to be hunting, but if you're going to hatch several of the same kind anyways, it's nice for that bonus of a shiny chance.

Once you get a mega-powered Pokemon (one with the ability to mega evolve), give it the Mega Stone to hold. At level 50, it will mega evolve. This will use up the Mega Stone, so you won't have one anymore. Mega evolution is a permanent evolution, like a regular one. It's not temporary like it is in the normal games.

It's for this reason that shiny mega evolved Pokemon are so rare and valuable. It takes a long time to hunt them (usually) because you not only have to hatch a shiny Pokemon, but you have to hatch one that can mega evolve as well. The Ranklist shows some of the dedicated shiny mega hunters!
