So, just a simple suggestion. on the "Misc. Settings", there could be a "Hide Smiley" thing.

If you activate it, Smileys won't work through text, and the Smiley window would disappear, too.

Simple. Mostly because most people gets annoyed with Smileys popping up.

Oh, and you could also select between You not being able to do emoticons, or you not being able to SEE emoticons, or both.

EDIT: After reading @Navuso's post, decided that the Smiley screen should disappear.

I totally agree with this. Some faces and heck, even text is ruined.

Considering the faces on the side literally input the text that creates the emoticons, I don't think that there is a way to make only those work without a lot of effort from Riako.

However, I do support people being able to turn off the emoticons. Either just for themselves (Misc Settings, affects all posts for that user only.) or for individual posts. (Add another tick box under the options that says "Disable smilies for this post"

Or both, since I could see both being useful. Since some people don't like seeing smilies at all, while others just don't want them to break their posts.

I am in complete support of this. No offense Riako, but I hate the emojis, and how new users spam forums with them. I would love a setting to turn them off, as I often put a space in my emojis in order to avoid it.

I totaly hate wgen somebody is using smileys on RP , it totally kills it ! I would be happy if i could just not see these smileys ..

I hate emojis. I always have, and I always will, especially when I have no choice. A good portion of the time I'll type bbcode in between the emoticon so the emoji doesnt pop up, but that gets very tedious. The most annoying thing is :) usually turns into an emoji, so I always use c: to avoid getting automatic emojis. Low and behold, the c smile still makes an emoji. This is the only forum I've ever been on that does this. It's just infuriating and annoying. I should dictate what I want to type, not the site.
I am looking to trade most things I have for Pokefarm Q stuff!

I always thought that emojis that automatically pop up when typed are annoying. It happens a lot on PH, but I hate it on any website that does it because it ruins chats. If you want emojis in the message, you should be able to click a menu that brings up a menu. From there you can select one you want and then close it. Going with your idea, disabling emojis for a chat would be great. But only if when the forum that the chat is on is disabled by the owner so it doesn't confuse people who do have the emoji filter off ( meaning they see this 8) ).
Click these or your firstborn will be sacrificed. Maybe. You should click them just to be safe though.
