Fossil Isotopes

Scientists have found many fossils in the past in the desert, and it came from the ocean 65 million years ago. They also, say that the number of protons in the atom the older the fossil will be. For example, if I have a carbon atom it will have 6 protons and an atomic mass equal to the average of the atoms naturally occurring isotopes. Another thing about atoms is that many of the isotopes are unstable. The unstable isotopes will break causing radioactive decay the more unstable isotopes the more radioactive decay. Scientists can find the age of rocks and fossils by the amount of radiative decay and number of unstable isotopes making the fossils 1 to 65 million years old.
