how do people keep their chain going even if they hatch a shiny?

so does anyone know what the new halloween event poke is? I dont have any past ones either, and i like some of the old ones, so im trying to decide if its worth me saving up the 20k or just buying some older event eggs that i like

if you continue a shiny hunt after you hatch a shiny, and your pokeradar batteries run out, do you still have the better odds of finding a shiny still (after hatching 40 pokes)?

is there a difference between using gold gems or nuggets to power your pokeradar?
