Puzzle pieces act as milestones for doing things on the site, think of them like mini-achievements. You get rewards for collecting a certain number of puzzle pieces. If you want to know where to find puzzle pieces, check the wiki page.

But in short: When you collect 10, 50, 150, 300, 500 puzzle pieces, an Exp. Share is given to you each time.
