Black Lightning
Forum-Index → Fanmades → Fanfictions → Black LightningWhat was that? Would you explain that to me?
“I thought you heard everything. My parents wanted me to marry this girl, but I didn’t want to. And now they’re angry with me and chased me out of the castle.” He started to laugh.
You’re laughing about being chased away from home? You’re strange.
“And you’re a dragon who doesn’t do what he is told to.”
But how could you have explained that to me when I was stuck in your room and you were running away? Kiko looked at him with a careful eye.
“How about I first build us a place to sleep? The nights here are pretty cold.” She nodded.
He stood up and made wavy movements with his hands. Snow rose up and flew around him like a tornado. Within a second he built an igloo around them.
Wow, how did you do that? She asked with an excited voice.
“Magic. I am able to control snow and ice. A secret in our family.” He winked at her. “Come here, we’ll warm each other up.”
She nestled close to him. Her breath quickly heated up the igloo, but luckily without melting the walls. All the time she watched the entrance and the sky, hoping that Akira would fall asleep before she changed her body. If not, she would have to tell him. It’s this night or never.
The sun sank down quickly. She looked at Akira, who was wide awake.
Damn, how should I explain that to him? She bit her lip.
The sun disappeared. Kiko closed her eyes and murmured: Akira, I have to tell you something.
“What is it?” he asked, but held his breath as Kiko began to glow. Within seconds she changed into her human form.
“That’s it.” She smiled, watching him.
“You… How… how is that possible?” He stared at her with an open mouth. “Of course! How couldn’t I notice? All these day-night changes and the similarity of your words! I am such an idiot.”
“Are you angry with me?” Kiko asked and stroke his cheek. He took her hand.
“No, I am not angry with you. I am angry with myself that I’ve fooled myself all the time.”
They went silent. Kiko watched his eyes wander around. She leaned her head next to his.
“What?” he asked.
“Shall we go on where we stopped that night? I’ll try to behave myself.”
His head bended closer. Their lips touched just slightly first, but then they were like one. She felt a prickle in her belly.
Their lips parted again. Kiko leaned her head against his chest. “Is this what humans call ‘love’?” she asked with closed eyes.
“Yes, I guess it is. I love you, Kiko.”
“I love you, too. And I am happy that I’ve had the chance to meet you.” Being held by his strong arms, she quickly fell into the world of dreams.

“Good Morning, my dear. How did you sleep?” He took a bite of the meat he was holding in his hands.
He watched him eat suspiciously. What did you do with the meat?
He looked surprise. “I cooked it. We humans can’t eat raw meat. Don’t worry, though.” He smiled and her heart began to pound like crazy again. What was he doing to her? How could she go crazy like this over a mere human? He threw a rabbit right in front of her. With fur and raw. “I left you some. I know it’s not much, but please eat up.”
She blinked at him, not sure what to say. Thanks… She lowered her head and quickly ate the rabbit. Despite her size, this was a very small meal. She looked a bit sad.
“I’m sorry.” He felt guilty now. “But it’s hard to find something to eat around here. Not many animals live in this snow.”
She shook her head. Now it was her turn to feel guilty. He made the effort to catch something to eat and she was not happy about it. She nudged his shoulder and nearly knocked him over. Whoops! Sorry, I’m not used to my powers yet. She paused for a while, staring through the entrance of the igloo into the snow. What are you planning to do now? You ran away from home. Where do you go now? She laid down next to him, her head still on the height of his head while he was sitting.
He looked at her with warm eyes. She felt as if her heart would jump out of her chest at any moment. “Well, who knows? Maybe I go back to the village where my love is waiting for me. Maybe.” He burst out laughing and Kiko couldn’t help but join, filling the igloo with her deep, growling voice.
Won’t you miss your parents? Because… I do. She never thought about it the whole time, but now it really hurt thinking about her parent, who had taken care of here as a baby, watching over her in her egg. And she had just yelled at them and ran away.
Just when she was about to lay her head on Akira’s lap, he jumped up. “How about we visit your parents? They must be worried to death! I mean, you were still very sm…” She threw a mean look at him. “…young. Very young. Let’s visit them and tell them you’re alright.”
She looked up into his face, trying not to get hypnotized by his sunny eyes. Are you sure? The mountains are full of dragons, which hate humans. It could be very dangerous for you. And it’s hot. There are a lot of volcanoes and stuff. The terrain is rough and it’s difficult even for me because I can’t fly…
He lightly slapped her nose. “Knock it off, will you? I won’t let you do this alone. Kiko.” He came very close to her, taking her big head between his hands. “I think I already told you. I love you, and I won’t leave your side. Ever. Again. You got that?”
She had to fight with tears and nodded slightly. I’m sorry. You can come with me. But it’s going to be a long journey…
He raised his chin. “I told you not to worry. I can hunt quite well, and you are… well a dragon. We’ll be fine.” He looked out of the igloo. “Shall we get going then?”
Kiko nodded. Alright, let’s go. With a swift move of his hand the igloo turned into soft snow and fell apart. The dragon shook of the snow, then had an idea.
I know I’m not as big as I want to be, but how about you ride on my back? This would be way faster than if you travelled by foot.
He examined her, then nodded shyly. Kiko laid down again so he could climb on her back. You can cling to the fur on my back. Let’s go! That said, she started running. Akira had some problems holding his balance first, but got used to it quickly. He smiled.
“So why can’t you fly? And don’t even have wings? Shouldn’t dragons be able to fly and breathe fire?”
Kiko laughed. “That’s the basic point of view humans have. They think dragons are cruel creatures which want to destroy the world or something. In reality…” She caressed his hand. His skin was cool as ever. “We dragons live in families just like humans. The female lays an egg and they take care of it together. The parents teach the hatchling to fly, to hunt and other dragon stuff.” Her fingers wandered over the back of his hand and aimed for the elbow. “And when we get old enough, we choose ourselves a partner and the whole thing starts again.”
“That’s good to hear. It’s terrible that all dragons are judged because the Ancient Ones attacked humans to suppress them.”
Kiko nodded, then sighed. “It really is sad…” She threw a look at the sky. “I guess I don’t have wings because my mother has none either. She’s a Wind dragon. She doesn’t fly, she floats.” She played in the crook of Akira’s arm, deep in thought. “My father is what you call a typical dragon. He’s a fire dragon. Red scales, large wings, breathing fire. But he’s pretty easygoing.” She felt heat building up in her chest and stopped moving her hand. During their journey she learned that ‘love’ heats up her inner dragon flame and wakes her instincts. The hunting instincts. She always tried to control herself, but it was difficult.
“Wow, sounds like dragons are way more complicated than I thought.” He watched her resting fingers, and then took her hand. She flinched for a second, hoping he didn’t notice. “But hey, if your Dad is easygoing, then I won’t be eaten… on an instant.” He laughed.
With a theatrically horror-stricken look she punched his chest. “Don’t you ever dare to say something like this again!”
He kept on laughing. “You’re right! I’m sorry. I taste terrible.” With a roar she jumped onto him, knocking him over. But before she could do anything, her motion froze. “Kiko? What’s wrong?”
“Hush! Something’s coming…” Leaves started to rustle and Kiko’s sensitive ears heard small paws running through the forest. Many different voices yowled in panic. In a defensive stance she jumped up, throwing her head left and right. Suddenly several light blue foxes burst through the bushes. They had dark blue wings on their back and stumbled over the two lovebirds. Right behind them appeared a tall-grown man.
On her first glance, he just looked like very tall human, but on second look, she noticed some strange features. Long, dark blonde hair, hands clenched to claws with long nails, strange monster-like feet. Something that looked like stone covering his arms.
“Help us!” One of the winged foxes screamed at Kiko, hiding behind her. “He’s going to kill us!”
A deep voice laughed. “Oh it’s not that simple. I’m not just going to kill you. I want your power. The power to shapeshift. You’re going to give all of your energy to me!”
Akira placed himself in front of Kiko. “I don’t think we can allow this. Run! We will take care of him!”
“Thank you so much!” whispered the leading fox and started to jump away.
“NO! You will not escape!” Raising his hand, the strange man got surrounded by lightning. Kiko stepped back, as suddenly a bright flash appeared. Another yowl sounded and some foxes fainted.
