Ditto is only obtainable very rarely in labs or through auctions/trade.

Ditto is generally extremely rare on itself, but because it can breed with any Pokemon that is not in the Undiscovered egg group, the value escalates even more.

Take for example the Legendary Birds; They can’t be used for anything, so the rarity is the only thing that makes them expensive.

Ditto is very useful for One Gender/Genderless Pokemon Shiny Hunting, as they either have to be obtained from Tall Grass or Daycare with only 1/2 eggs being the desired Pokemon. It can also be used for breeding the Dex Reward Legends, which is the only way to Shiny Hunt them.
