Ebony looked up from her book at the sound of approaching footsteps. A tiny smile crossed her face when she saw an odd little dog coming towards her. She silently held out her hand to it.

The noise caused Toadstool to suddenly wake up from his nap. When he saw Pupkin in Ebony's arms, he let out a string of loud croaks. Ebony glared at her familiar.

"Toadstool, mind your manners. There is absolutely no need for jealousy."

If he could, the toad would've grumbled. Instead, he simply hopped away from the two. Ebony rolled her eyes, and continued to snuggle Pupkin.
