So, to get you started, and to hopefully make everything else here a little less confusing, I'll tell you about demons themselves to help you understand how they work.
Demons are born and raised in another realm. This realm has no name currently, but it's a parallel to earth. Everything is the same, except that there, there is no weather, no temperature, no change. The only thing changing are the residents and what they choose to do. The entire place is bathed in a dark, gloomy, grey-ish green light and littered across the ground are small bursts of pitch-black fire. This is where the new demons are put when they are spirited away to this realm. In the center of the realm, is a city, or a central hub or sorts. This is where the biggest concentration of fire and demons, resides. This is also where the King, Diaphos, lives. Er... Lived. That's a long story that will be saved for later.
Anyways, The hub is at the center of a star formation, which divides the realm into 6 territories. One for each of the five houses, Leicester, Kynseract, Carsentax, M house (Needs a name) , 5th House (Still needs name also), and a ring of wilderness around the outer edges.
Each house predominantly stays withing their own territory, but some choose to stay in others. Either because they choose to do so, or because they have been temporarily or permanently exiled from their house.
So, on to the basics of demons.
Demons are like human, but also vastly different. They're human enough, sharing the same body design but with a few extra parts like Tails, Horns, Sharp Fangs and Claws, and on rare occasions, Wings.
Demons have a slightly changed digestive system, where they can eat and drink *some human foods, but also so they can digest souls. If a Demon eats something they can't tolerate, depending on the amount, they will get sick, and expunge the food from their system. (Fancy way of saying that they puke.)
* These items change for each individual. Some standards are alcohol, coffee, and any raw meat. Cooked meat is thought to be intolerable to some due to the spices and seasonings used
Demons all have magical traits or abilities, to some extent. Some have the ability to conjure up fire, others have abnormally fast reaction speed, and still others can influence the way someone thinks.
All demons have the ability to disguise themselves. This is how they mingle among humans without causing incidents or mass panic. These disguises only work for humans though, as other demons can see right through the magic others are using.
Demons can technically breed with their own race, but those who prefer to keep their bloodline pure, or those very few individuals who become infatuated with a human, will choose to expand their family with humans. This prevents mix-breeding, and ensures that any half-breeds are prevented. (For the most part)
Now that that's all settled, here's the rest!
The Sarpolas Sigil
A mark bestowed by a high-ranking demon. Those who bear this mark are to be intended as that demon's next mate. Each high-ranking demon has their own sigil, and only one of each is ever present at any given time. There are rare occurrences in which twin or multi-births have more than one child bearing the mark. In this case, the demon may choose which to bed, or in some instances, the demon will simply choose all of the marked offspring. Sarpolas sigils only show up every 2 to 3 generations and are passed down through blood similar to a curse. While some believe them to be a curse, and a sign that these families have made deals with demons, anti-curse spells and artifacts will do nothing to alleviate the effects.
These marks cannot be removed by normal means, and the only way to dispel the magic is to have the affected individual be blessed by a high-priest and to have the mark smeared with rose-oil and holy water.
The full effects of a Sarpolas Sigil are unknown but what is known, is that those marked seemed to be tracked in some way, allowing the demon to easily find them when separated. The marks also seem to ward off any lower-ranking demons and other creatures. The marked persons can see through a demon's disguise and are able to see it even when it is completely invisible to the rest of the human population.
These marks are typically used by Noble demons who prefer to keep their bloodline as pure as possible, by only limiting mates to one human family.
There are rare instances where two Demons will mark the same family, be it accidentally or not. When this happens, there is an extremely rare chance for one of the family's members to be born with both marks. These cases often cause large-scale fights between the two claiming demons that often result in either the marked human dying from the rough nature of these fights, or being forced into a violent love-triangle between the two.
Sarpolas Sigils often resemble the crest of a Demon's 'house'. 'Houses' will be explained further in the next section.
Demon Houses
Houses is the name used to describe the five main Noble bloodlines. The five houses and their reigning sins are as follows:
Leicester: Demons of the Leicester house are fueled by sins of Pride and Envy. Physical traits of this house include long twisting horns, ashy-brown to dark-toned skin, as well as bright and vibrant eye colors. The Demons of Leicester hold themselves with high regard and have given themselves the title of "The first house" due to the fact that the family's head is a direct descendant of the the Ruler of the Demon realm.
Leicester Demons are well-known for their mastery of destructive magic. When a Leicester manifests this magic it commonly takes the form of fire, the color of this fire reflects just how powerful the Demon is. The color can range from rose pink - harmless, to purple-ish black - deadly.
Leicesters prefer to use their magic in exactly that way, letting the fire burn through their foes and singe the world around them until either their anger, or life, is extinguished. Leicesters are know to show-off their magic as a status symbol of sorts, using it as a show of power. This does not mean that all choose to showcase however, some Leicesters prefer to lie-low and only use their abilities when pushed or when it is necessary.
Leicester horns are hollow due to the fact that if they were to be solid, they'd be too heavy to hold up correctly.
Leicesters are skilled in deceit. They will lie, spin stories, and do anything to get you on their side, or to get at what they want. Some are even capable of hiding their true emotions from even themselves. That is, until it's time to drop the act...
Kynesract: Demons of Kynesract feed from sins of Wrath and Lust. Physical traits of Kynesract Demons are sturdy straight horns, strong athletic bodies, semi-tan to caramel skin tone, and large claws and canines. Kynesract Demons are often short-tempered and quick to violence. Know as "The Beast-men House" they don't take to making friends easily and are often the most immediately dangerous of all the Demon houses.
Kynesract Demons are known for their brute-strength. Instead of putting on shows of mysticism, like Leicesters instead, they infuse their own bodies with their magic, giving them abnormal strength and stamina.
Kynesract Demons prefer to rip through their enemies rather than wasting time with casting spells. Their claws and horns are hardened and solid, making them effective weapons in close-quarters combat. Most Kynesract Demons serve as military for the King of Demons, but some lower-ranking members of the family can be found via summons. (These are typically the violent demons that threaten and try to harm inexperienced summoners)
Carsentax House: Members of this house gain energy from sins of Greed. The Carsentax Demons showcase physical traits of pale skin tones, lanky somewhat fragile bodies, and back-curving horns.
These demons want only one thing - more. Once a Carsentax finds something they like, they'll become extremely addicted to it, resulting in something of a conflict when the thing they like is either: 1) Dangerous. 2) Illegal. 3) Both. 4) Something that isn't too commonly accepted. Carsentax Demons can become VERY temperamental when kept from their coveted item of choice and may even react in extremely violent ways.
Carsentax Demons don't have much in the ways of magic, but their reflexes are far superior to most other creatures. Moving fast and reacting in seconds to attacks gives them a good advantage in ranged combat.

House Marks
Leicester: This house's marks will always have a serpent of some kind. The actual design varies for each member.
Kynesract: This house's marks resemble scars, bites, and scratches. The placement varies for each member.
Carsentax: This house's marks will always have be a gem or valuable item of some kind. The actual design varies for each member.
M House: This house's marks will be constellations and clouds. The actual design varies for each member.
Unnamed House: This house's marks are enigmatic and may mimic the other house's in an attempt to . The actual design varies for each member.
Full-Bloods: Full-blooded demons have a few physical traits that are shared throughout all members of the species, regardless of house. Full-bloods can be identified if they have all of the following.
* Horns
* Tails
* Claws
* Fangs
* Abnormally colored eyes / Eyes that darken when growing irate.
* Wings (This is an extremely rare trait though, and is regarded with high praise and adoration)
These traits are visible among all demons who are showing their true forms. Some may prefer to hide certain traits at any given time, but others will still be able to 'see' them, due to the aura that each demon holds. Magic permeates their bodies and as such, can't be masked fully when it is in use.
Mix-Breeds: Mix-Breeds are the resulting offspring between two members of different houses. They express traits and abilities from both, but usually favor one over the other. Finding a mix-breed that is a perfect blend between the two is rare.
- - - NOTE: Demons that are a mix-breed of three houses or more are considered mutts, and are not accepted into any of the houses. These demons typically have weaker abilities that their more... refined brethren.
Half-Breeds: Half-breeds come with a varying range of potency. Some are mere humans with a touch for magic. Others, resemble their demonic heritage much more, brandishing the horns, fangs, and claws, along with the magical capabilities. They are usually despised by Full-Bloods and Mix-Breeds, and are seen as the lowest ranking members of any house. For the most part, Half-Breeds are exiled from the realm and banished to live among humans.You may wonder why half-breeds are hated so much if Demons are using the sigils to mark humans in the first place. Well, the answer, simply put, is that when a marked human has a child, the demon usually takes it to their realm, where they destroy the human soul inside. Afterwards, the newborn is raised in the fire, being reborn (2nd birth) as a full-blooded demon instead of a half-blood. Sometimes things can go wrong, and the child remains with their human-inherited soul intact. They can be identified by their strong magical presence, or, if they resemble a demon more, their lack of a tail.
+Breeds - Now there are different kinds of demons to read up on!
+Additional info for the Leicester House - A little extra info for Leicesters.
Future Plans:
<= Contemplate and possibly draw up examples of House Marks
<= Assign my existing Demon OCs a house/sin-type and go from there (Tweaks to designs may be needed for cannon reasons)

+An explanation of Demons - First thing in the thread, to help out with understanding the rest of the story, whenever it gets written
+House Marks - Now you can get a little idea of what each house's sigils would have in them.
Future Plans:
<= Draw several examples of House Marks.
<= Figure out names for M and Unnamed Houses.
<= Start working on a rough idea for the story - Figure out the Date, Setting, Starting POV, and initial hook.
