Circuit finally made it to the Arena. "E-excuse m-me," he said to the Arcanine running the Arena.
Arcanine looked up. "Yes?" he asked.
"C-can you p-please t-tell me what t-today's ch-challenge is?" Circuit asked politely.
"Certainly," Arcanine replied cheerfully. "Today is a sort of... free-for-all, if you will. Many Pokémon will be participating in the same battle - every Pokémon for himself or herself. The last Pokémon standing will be awarded with

25,000."
Circuit stepped back. "25,000?!"" he asked, shocked. "I-is there this big a prize every time?!"
"No," Arcanine said. "Only today, since you'll need to fight far more Pokémon than usual. Would you like to participate?"

"Not technically," Arcanine replied, "but if you happen to be the last two standing, one of you can forfeit, let the other win, and split the prize if you wish. You're also free to split the prize if one of you wins, even if the other does happen to faint."

"I'll s-sign up as well," Circuit said.
"Good luck to both of you!" Arcanine said cheerfully. "We only need one more participant to join before we begin; please wait in the waiting room until then." He gestured with his paw to show which way it was.
"T-thank you, s-sir!" Circuit said gratefully. He began to walk in the direction of the waiting room.

Circuit found the waiting room and sat down. He saw some of the other participants - a Zoroark, a Mienshao, a Gliscor, a Trevenant, a Sylveon, an Alakazam, and a Manectric. He wondered what the last competitor would be.

"I'm nervous," Circuit noted. Suddenly, he heard an incredibly loud noise as the entire room shook. It happened again, and again. "Are those... footsteps?" he asked.

Suddenly, an enormous Pokémon resembling a statue walked in. It didn't speak; Arcanine appeared in the center of the room.
"Did he just teleport?"
"No; that was ExtremeSpeed."
Ignoring the comments regarding his sudden appearance, he spoke:
"Greetings, competitors!
"Now that there are ten of you, the competition may begin.
"I wish the best of luck to all of you.
"Gardevoir, will you do the honors?"
A Gardevoir materialized out of thin air. A sphere of rainbow energy surrounded her, and spread across the entire waiting room. When the blinding light cleared, Circuit found that he and all of the other competitors had teleported to the battlefield.
"See? He must have teleported!"
"Did you not JUST see that teleportation looks completely different from what he did?! He used ExtremeSpeed!!"
Still ignoring the muttering of the competitors, Arcanine ExtremeSped away, and Gardevoir teleported. The battlefield glowed, and writing appeared:

It shifted to 2...
... and then to 1...
... and then to START! exactly as a Xatu called out.
The Zoroark used Night Daze as the Mienshao used Hi Jump Kick. The Night Daze didn't do much, but lowered Mienshao's accuracy and caused Hi Jump Kick to miss and cause recoil.

Zoroark jumped in the air; Circuit attempted to do the same, but failed. Every Pokémon except Zoroark and Gliscor was hit.
Gliscor immediately used Substitute, forming a shield of white energy that absorbed all attacks that tried to hit it. It then used Protect, and only then did Circuit notice that it was glowing purple - it had been poisoned, though it didn't seem troubled. It must have had Poison Heal and been poisoned with help from an ally that had wanted to help its strategy.
Zoroark made himself invisible and used Night Daze on Amber from behind; Circuit called up to Amber. "You should Mega Evolve instead of me for this one!!" He then used Dragon Pulse on the Manectric, but the Sylveon jumped in front, taking no damage and blocking the attack.
Trevenant used Sunny Day. Alakazam used Psychic.
The Golurk, however, did the most damage of all. It stomped its foot, creating an Earthquake attack that knocked out Manectric and brought several others to the brink of fainting themselves.
Circuit wasn't sure where Zoroark was at that moment; he wished he could see.
Sylveon jumped up to Golurk and used Last Resort. Circuit assumed it must have attacked a lot out of his line of sight. It then occurred to him that that shouldn't have affected Golurk; he assumed it had Pixilate, but realized it had already used Cute Charm. He wondered what could have happened; whatever it was, it made the usually-ineffective Last Resort hurt Golurk a LOT. Golurk staggered back, and caused another Earthquake in the process - Circuit fainted, and unbeknownst to him, a huge number of others did as well. Only Sylveon, Gliscor, Golurk, Amber, and possibly Zoroark were still standing in the fight.
