Arca looks straight back, the gold and gray flecks in her mismatched eyes suddenly glittering brightly. "Now, then, let's start with the most simple stuff. There are different categories of magic. Natural magic is any sort of magic that's connected with any part of nature, including night and day, flora, fauna, water, the ground, etcetera. Then there's Unnatural, which is usually defensive and offensive spells, anything involving the mind, technology, and a few other things. Both are very broad subjects broken down into smaller pieces, which will take a while to memorize, but you'll get it right eventually. Then, of course, there's Stored magic, which is the kind of magic found in phoenix tears, enchanted items, and is much rarer. Questions?"

"I suppose so, yes." Arca replies. "Every animal has a small amount of Stored energy, from a normal squirrel to a purebred gryfen, but unless you have level 3 or above Stored magic, you have no control over it."

"Magic is something you're born with. It can only be granted temporarily by magic items with Stored magic in them." Arca replies. "Since you're human, you only have basic level 1 Stored magic that's pretty much no good for anything."

Arca takes a silver orb, about the size of a small pearl, from a bowl of them. "Harmless, correct?" She asks the newbies. Then, without waiting for an answer, she throws it at Laval. It expands midair, turning into a thin rod, and lodges in the wooden bookcase right behind his left ear. "If I'd aimed slightly to the left, Laval would be speared through his head. Magic is cunning, even the most innocent things can be deadly. It is not something to play around with. Everything in this room has the potential to kill someone, if used properly."

Aidia flinched as the rod embedded into the bookcase with a crack. She opened her eyes. She huffed, feeling cramped in her animal like form. She shifted and smiled at Arca. "Could I possible show them the art of transformation? I'd like to transform anyway." She asked softly, smiling.

Oliver gasped, looking away. He looked up, expecting a dead Laval, only to see a smiling one. He blinked. Thank god. Maria winced lightly.

"Absolutely, Aidia. Transformation is low-level Stored magic focused on only one task, manipulating your body in a certain way. Some people call it shape shifting, but it's usually referred to as just Shifting. It's a more common form of Stored magic, but usually less dangerous." Arca takes another pearl, rolling it between her fingers casually. "Number one rule of magic, don't fear it. Fear makes you forget things I've told you, it makes you reckless, and it makes you scared. When facing magic you must be confident but cautious, and you must be able to remember everything I've ever told you about the kind of magic you're facing. Even when using magical items...like, say my knife, you must be in control and know what you're doing. Else you could end up actually stabbing someone in the face instead of letting it hover in midair."
