I can have both. My character went from having a rocky relationship that was platonic at best and hostile at worst with another character, now they have huge crushes on each other.

Let me elaborate:
The other character tried to kill mine over a disagreement about what country made the best vodka. Then they were good friends (and nothing more) for a while, before having a little too much vodka on one night and starting to flirt
