So, I have set myself a goal for next year to improve my art. I have decided to do 1 page of my sketch book each day next year. In order to be able to evaluate my improvement, I have set 7 different categories, and I will do a different category on each day of the week. This means that by the end of the year I will have 52 pieces of art from each category, which hopefully will be enough to see some sort of improvement. I'm also hoping that it will help me to develop a personal style. I'll be using a variety of media, depending on how much time I have in the day, and what I feel like. It will likely be mostly pencil, but I'm also hoping to experiment with water-colour, pastels and brush-pens. If you have any other media you like using, feel free to suggest it and I'll probably give it a go at some point. I love trying out new things.

So, here's how you can help. Firstly, check out the categories below and suggest some things for me to draw from them. You can be as specific as you like, try not to be too vague. For example, don't just say 'flower' for the plants category, be more specific, like 'rose' or 'daisy'. Please see my list of things I won't draw before suggesting anything.

Next, once I start posting the art, please critique it. Tell me the things that don't look right or that could be done differently. Suggest areas I need to work on. Again, please be specific.
Example of an unhelpful comment: "That dog looks weird."
Example of a helpful comment: "The back leg doesn't quite look right, try putting the knee joint higher."

THINGS I WON'T DRAW

- Weapons
- Gore
- Romance
- Anything which isn't "PH friendly"

SUNDAY - OBJECTS

Anything man-made, excluding weapons. Small or large, from erasers to cargo ships and everything in-between.

MONDAY - POKEMON FUSION

I'm just looking for fusions of 2 pokemon for now. Feel free to specify specific parts to be used, for example "Charizard and Growlithe, include Charizard's wings."

I'm also including a little side project. While my daily drawing will all be traditional, I'd also like to improve with my digital art. So I'm going to be working on a large piece of digital art over the year. It will have lots of different details and techniques. I'll post updates on the art here, and plan to keep working on it all 2017. Although it's not completely planned yet, my general idea is of a magical woodland scene, with a bit of kiwiana thrown in. So when I do post updates, please throw me as many critiques, suggestions, ideas, techniques as you can think of. Once it is finished, I will get it printed professionally for my nieces and nephew, so if you think something looks wrong, please tell me, I can't fix it if I don't know it needs fixing.

DIGITAL ART

So yeah, that's it from me for now. Throw me those suggestions, and I'll see you on the 1st of January.

This is a cool idea!! I love it :3 For "plants", how about... the hibiscus flower! They have lots of nice shapes :3 For Saturday, maybe... a person standing under a big big tree? Is that a good scene?

Thanks LuluQuagsire, I'm adding those suggestions to the main post. For scenic, I was thinking more of landscapes, like a mountain range, or a seaside for example, but I can definitely work that with your idea.

It would be great if I could get a suggestion for each section by New Years, because then I will have a full week of things to draw.

I'm going into town tomorrow to get some card to make some sketch blocks, I'm making one for each topic. I'll post photos when I'm done.

Those are fantastic, thank you. I already have an idea for the "not totally human barber". With the oldest living tree though, I seem to be getting conflicting answers, could you link me a picture of it?

DAY TWO

Fusion - Skiddo/Mareep

Materials - pencil
Reference - For the pose. Also Bulbapedia for Skiddo and Mareep.

Just a quick sketch today because I'm busy getting ready to go away for a few days. I quite like this little guy. I have named him Shaun, he is a mischievous but kind-hearted young goat, very energetic and can't sit still for long. He likes softly head-butting people to let them know he cares. I'm going to auction him on a feed for normal gems, so check it out if you are interested.
