Adrin looked up at him, tears streaming down her cheeks. "It was my
fault. I could have saved her. I could have sacrificed myself and
your sister would still be alive. You could have been happy..." She
sobbed, looking down. Arin looked at River, nodding. "Do you... Do
you think I could fit in with humans?" He asked, shifting his
weight.
Max sighed, looking a little more sad. "No, Adrin, that wouldn't
have made me happy. I'd hate to lose you. If I could stop it from
happening I would. I'm already kicking myself for not helping
Melina back there, I probably could have...It's not your fault,
Adrin. Don't apologize for something like this, okay?" He told
her.
"Sure you can. As long as they're open-minded enough, you could
join society. You could even stay with me if you're fine with
putting up with seven other people in one house. Got six siblings,
but one of them's in the loony bin right now. They were actually
debating on whether to send him to prison or the mad house." River
replied. "So, in the house it'd be my mom, my four sisters, my
brother, and me. If you're fine with that, you can stay with us."

Riley smiled, "You can come with me. I have a laboratory, and two
couches, so you can crash. So long as you are okay with loud music,
we can along well."
Adrin shook her head. Tears still came, and sobs still shook her
little frame. "I'd be better off dead." Every ounce of pain and
bitterness in the small girl was put into those five words, her
body quivering in sorrow. Arin smiled thankfully. "Yes, either of
those would be wonderful. Thank you." He had a smile of pure joy,
and it was quite adorable.
"A lab? Can I come over sometime??" River asked eagerly, really
interested now. "That sounds awesome! I wish I had one, but
there're seven people in my house, and no room for a lab. We do
have a library though. Got lots of books." He saw the look in
Arin's face and grinned. "Adorable, seriously."
Max frowned at that, and gave Adrin a nice, warm hug. "Cry if you
want, but never say that again. You're better off alive, okay? You
are an amazing and unique person, and the world would be worse off
without you."

A blush erupted on Arin's pale face, and he coughed. Looking away,
he became kind of flustered in a cute way. Adrin wrapped her arms
around him, sobbing into his shoulder.
Max told her quietly, "You can cry into my shoulder as long as you
want. Tell me when you're done, alright?" He could do at least this
much for her. He wanted to do more, but he knew he probably
couldn't. "I'll help you if you ever need anything. If you need
something, just call for me, okay?"
River grinned at Arin, finding this also adorable. "My sisters
would love to have you around. Especially my youngest sister."

Adrin nodded, continuing to cry. She shook, quivering from the
strength of the sobs. Arin smiled at River, grateful. A red hue was
upon his cheeks, and he thought of mini Rivers running around. This
made him giggle a bit.
Max held her as she cried. His shirt was getting drenched, but he
didn't care. He knew she needed this. Max would be there for her as
much as he could. (She's basically his new little sister in his
eyes.)
"Doubt you'd meet my older brother, but you should be happy for
that. He's insane, violent, and will probably never leave the
mental hospital. I'm glad he's gone." River said. Somehow he was
still smiling, but this smile was just for show. There was a reason
they were debating whether to send the older brother to prison. A
major reason.

Adrin pulled back, nodding. "Th-thank you..." She whispered, her
voice broken. Arin gave him a small, sad smile. He set his small
hand on his shoulder, patting it softly and hesitantly.
"You're welcome, anytime." Max told Adrin, a smile on his face. She
needed a good cheering up.
River smiled at Arin and said, "Thanks, but I'm okay. Don't worry
about me." He looked at Riley, and asked, "Is there anything in
that lab that could give me superpowers? I'd LOVE to be a
superhero."

Adrin nodded, curling up in his lap and setting her head against
his chest softly. Her breathing steadied as she tried to calm down.
Arin nodded, looking down and staring at his little feet.
matthew got up and looked around, wondering how he could help
out. there hasn't been much i could do... most everyone's on top of
everything in this small little campsite of our's.... he
thought.
Max smiled softly, and sat there, letting her sleep. 'So I'm
comfortable, am I? Ehh, that's fine. I'm glad she's calm now. Gonna
ask her when she wakes up if I'm comfortable though. Wonder what
she'd say.' He thought.
