So I'm super excited for the eighteen, I think it is, so I've been trying to catch up because On Demand is really cruel and it removed an episode of SU I was watching, WHILE I WAS WATCHING IT >:O
So anyway, I was playing with my puppy and this simple question popped to mind:
Do gems have birthstones?
And that lead to some other questions that will be listed here!

If they did, how would that work?
Since they are literally gems who have taken a physical form, if that makes sense to you non fans, maybe the birthstone would the gem they are!
If what was said above in the awnser was true, what about all those non-birthstone gems?
That is a very good question. Erm, the best I can think of to awnser that is this:
If the non-birthstone gem has fused with a birthstone gem, the first one they fuse with would be the birthstone.
While typing that I thought of another possibility!
The month they were created in, I guess, determines it.
But how would that work for birthstone gems, like Pearl? Would they have to be created in a specific month?
Ahh, my friend, no. They are the only exception.
What about fusion gems? Permafused gems like Garnet? Non-birthstone and birthstone fusions?
So even if it is a temporary fusion, the birthstone would be one of the two gems it fused from, unless neither of them were birthstone gems, and then I have no clue. A fusion fused with a non-fusion... Hmm... If it were two birthstone gems fused into one, then a birthstone gem fused with them, it would be the non-fused one. A non-birthstone fusion would take on the birthstone of one of the two it fused from. If neither of the two gems were birthstone gems, then I guess it'd be the month the first time the two fused? I don't know! A birthstone fusion, eh? Well if it were two birthstone gems into a non-birthstone it'd be the first gem I guess, but non-birthstones into a birthstone, the birthstone would be the gem they are, if that makes sense.
