What 'Origin of the Universe' theory do you believe in and do you think the Universe is expanding, contracting or just simply sitting there?
As a devout Darwinist, I believe in the Big Bang Theory and I also think the Universe is oscillating (both contracting and expanding; it contracts then expands, so the average size is technically the same.)

Well, the Big Bang expanded the Universe and God created the Planets.

What I DON'T get about the Biblical explanation is that it never says anything about God creating any other stars or planets, but they exist.
But you're free to believe whatever you want, so ^^

As a Christian, I believe that God created everything

Whew, sure a lot of Christians here.
That being said, although I can't understand you guys (and how you guys understand the Bible) it's just another view...
(Again, the Bible only talks about God creating the solar system in 7 days. Nothing about the rest of the universe.

Honestly, I don't know what to believe. Neither the religious nor the science POV makes sense in the least bit. I always find myself asking "But what was there before that? What caused THAT to happen?"

@Diana yeah, that's kind of the worst thing about beliefs. If any system of belief had a good explanation for BEFORE the origin of the universe, I'd worship it right away.

@g00gle: I think you said that before?

God was somehow created in a time of nothing, then shouted "LET THEIR BE LIGHT!" and created a big Ka-bloosh! and created the universe.

Ano... Well, I dunno if this has died yet, but I kinda mix science and religion. Kinda. Not really.

I'm kind of a new-age believer, I've looked at several different religions and new age thoughts and from what I know from what I've seen to make up my own mish-mash of thoughts on the matter.
If I sound like an idiot this is my opinions, K?

I believe in the string theory more or less. I think that maybe the reason why the big bang occurred when some sort of disturbance in a parallel universe snapped and opened something similar to a black hole or a wormhole and through equilibrium a decent amount of matter and dark matter came in through the breach before it sealed back up, and why our universe is slowly ceasing to expand is due to it almost reaching equilibrium.

Now, as for the presence of gods and such, I think that Magic and Deities exist in a form, and I do believe in reincarnation.
As I see it, the afterlife is an empty space with clear ground and sky, and where spirits of all living beings wait until they feel ready to continue on to their next life. The beings we may see as deities may be the eldest of the spirits we meet those that have learned all that they can or want to from their lives, and when they live in the afterlife they give their knowledge away to others. Promises are made here, and maybe some rivalries from other lives continued across this plain, and that made differences in opinions or what each individual experienced causing different lessons to be learned. I don't think "God" is the first spirit, and I haven't put much thought into where the souls that are here already came from, or where new ones begin or come from, or where we go if we choose to continue past this world.

And I'll stop boring you now. I'm probably digging my grave here o.o

Well i'm from a christian familly (kinda) but i don't believe in that, science stuff looks more real than that. i just don't believe on god. i still think that if you die, then it's the end. the world is too cruel for anything else, anyway it's a little out-of-thread. x3

sorry for my english.

i have nothing against religious people, just saying.

I think every new masterpiece creates a new universe so the worlds of Nintendo may actually exist.
I'm awesome!
And all those who are making suggestions that will make PH safer, I agree with you and thank you.

That we might never be able to comprehend it completely. Our minds are too limited, in the sense of possessing the capability of wrapping it around such a massive, infinite, and complex concept.

I used to be a bit more religious but I follow the more scientific explanation of how the universe came to be, you know, the big bang theory and all that. So I basically agree with ya Hatoko! In terms of planets I simply believe in the whole idea that nebula's with their collapsing and even compressed clouds of various dusts and gases and churned in through several motions to become disks and eventually planets.

Agreeing with Lunarflame, I don't think that we might ever comprehend the universe and it's formation completely. Rather, we can come up with theories and ideas for how it all came into play, but it's one of our greatest unanswered questions! ^^
