THE PEPSI IPL 2015 GUIDE
Forum-Index → General Discussion → THE PEPSI IPL 2015 GUIDEMatch 8 of Pepsi IPL 2015 will feature the Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore clashing with the David Warner-led Sunrisers Hyderabad. RCB began their season with a convincing win over defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders, while SRH suffered a 45-run drubbing at the hands of Chennai Super Kings.
RCB will be glad that despite playing a level of cricket far from their potential, they still managed to post points on the board. The bowling by the quicks left a lot to be desired and the ground fielding and catching was very sub-standard. Skipper Virat Kohli has reiterated time and again that the combination they have this seas gives the players a very good opportunity to go out and express themselves. In front of a noisy home crowd, one can expect the RCB players to play with freedom and the flair that one tends to associate with the team and raise their performance several notches.
SRH didn’t have the best of starts to the season and possibly need to revise

Kings XI Punjab announced their
arrival in Pepsi IPL 2015 as they defeated the Mumbai Indians by 18
runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. After posting a commanding
177 batting first, KXIP decimated the hosts top-order through some
relentless fast bowling, and fought off a late assault by Harbhajan
Singh and J Suchith – to eventually restrict them to 159 for 7.
MI lost man-in-form Rohit Sharma to the second ball of the chase when Sandeep Sharma got one to move back in sharply and rap the MI skipper on the pads in front of the stumps. Aditya Tare attempted to force the pace but was outsmarted by Anureet Singh and spooned a catch to Murali Vijay at covers. Less than two overs later, Aaron Finch lost his stumps to compatriot Mitchell Johnson.
Reduced to 17 for 3 at the end of the first six overs, it was going to be a herculean task for MI to get back into the contest. Corey Anderson’s dismissal in the eighth over – with the score still 25 – made things that much more difficult. Kieron Pollard gave the MI fans hope briefly when he smashed a four and a six and scored a run-a-ball 20, before an attempt to find the boundary saw him hole out to long off.
Despite being reduced to 59 for 6, debutant J Suchith and Harbhajan Singh did not throw in the towel but instead attempted to enjoy themselves and entertained the crowd with a few big hits. Harbhajan took the lead, smashing the fastest half-century by a Mumbai Indians player in the IPL – off 19 balls; he hit six sixes and four boundaries in his 24-knock of 64. Suchith turned out to be an able aide, scoring 34 from 21 balls. The pair added their first 50 runs in 19 balls and consumed another 20 balls to add the next 50, in the process bringing up the second century partnership of the season. From 59 for 6, it was some effort from the two spin bowler to take their team to 159 for 7. Harbhajan Singh was dismissed off the penultimate delivery of the innings with his team still 19 runs away.
Kings XI Punjab were relentless with the ball. Sandeep Sharma seems to have made it a habit of striking early; he accounted for the MI captain with his second delivery and finished with outstanding figures of 4-1-12-1. Anureet Singh bowled two good overs before his figures were ruined by a late assault by Harbhajan Singh; he finished with figures of 4-0-41-2. Mitchell Johnson was breathing fire right through this spell and finished with figures of two for 23. Axar Patel too was impressive; the left-arm spinner chipped in with two wickets.
Earlier in the evening, on a sporting pitch at the Wankhede Stadium, KXIP were provided a blazing start by their opening pair of Murali Vijay and Virender Sehwag. While the former took the conservative route to score 35, the latter gave those in the stands plenty to cheer as he smashed the Mumbai Indians bowlers with disdain.
Sehwag opened his account with a crisp cover drive. The first three balls of the third over produced 14 runs; the first ball took the inside edge and raced to the boundary, the second ball just managed to clear the ropes at squareleg and the third delivery was cut past point to the boundary. Runs continued to come in a flurry from Sehwag’s blade as he raced to 36 from 18 balls before he stepped out to hit Harbhajan Singh – bowling his first over – into the stands, but miscued and was caught at long on. The opening pair had added 60 before being separated in the seventh over.
Glenn Maxwell provided debutant J Suchith his first IPL wicket after which Harbhajan Singh accounted for Vijay, who had accumulated 35 off 26 balls, in the eleventh over. David Miller wasn’t at his fluent best on the day, yet he and George Bailey, who walked out to bat at number five, added 46 runs in 5.1 overs before Miller edged a Lasith Malinga delivery to wicket-keeper Aditya Tare.
Bailey, who came in for criticism in the previous match, answered his critics in the best possible manner – by scoring runs. He walked out to bat in the eleventh over and batted through to the end of the innings, in the process registering his maiden IPL half-century. Bailey hit four boundaries and three sixes and finished with 61 runs against his name. KXIP finished their 20 overs at 177-5, having added 72 runs in the last seven overs.
Harbhajan Singh bowled beautifully and was the pick of the MI bowlers. On a surface which provided some bounce for the spinners, the MI off-spinner bowled at a very good pace, hit the right areas consistently, bowled his four overs for 20 runs and returned with the scalps of the two KXIP openers. Malinga and Suchith were the two other wicket-takers for the hosts.

MoM-George Bailey
Both teams have got good squads and are full of talent and confidence. It is going to be an even match according to me. Here are the strengths and weaknesses of each team:
RCB
As always they have got Two IPL stars, Gayle, who hit a fiery 96 against KKR and Kohli, another huge threat to SRH. And with AB De villiers, their batting line up is next to invincible. As for their bowling, They have got the talented Yuzvendra Chahal and pacers, Ashoke Dinda, Varun Aaron. They will try to continue their winnig streak,no matter what!!!!
SRH
Having got David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan at the top, they are a dangerous side to deal with. Their middle order also looks strong with Eoin Morgan, Ashish Reddy and Naman Ojha. They have also got a superb bowling line up with Dale Steyn, the world's best pacer leading the attack. Then there's Ishant Sharma and Bhuveneshwar Kumar, two among India's most talented bowlers. Not to forget, P. rasool and Karn Sharma form another destructive spin duo!
Encounters to watch out for:
Dale Steyn vs. Virat Kohli
B. Kumar vs. Chris Gayle
Y. Chahal vs. David Warner
& about RCB. they'll be missing Mitchell Starc & Adam Milne. they will need Sean Abbott, the spearhead Varun Aaron to make a performance. Yuzvendra Chahal & Abu Nechim will need to carry on the good form.
TRIVIA
there can be a huge gayle storm and lightning boult can fall on the other batsman but dont forget that the steyn gun it will kill all the players but there with be a teacher among the batsman his name is ABD and he will teach the bowler ABCD.
anyways, leave it. Here's the report
SRH won the toss & chose to field
RCB named an unchnaged squad
SRH made 2 changes-Ashish Reddy, Praveen Kumar in-Praveez Rasool, Ishant Sharma out
RCB 166(19.5)/SRH 172-2(17.2)
MoM-David Warner
Sunrisers Hyderabad got their first points on the board when they defeated the Royal Challengers Bangalore by eight wickets at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. After opting to field first, the SRH bowlers skittled out the hosts for 166 – presenting the first occasion when a team was bowled out in Pepsi IPL 2015 – and subsequently chased down the runs in the 18th over.
After heading into the interval on a high, the Sunrisers Hyderabad openers came out all guns blazing and pushed the hosts onto the backfoot right from the word go. David Warner caressed the first ball of the run-chase – a low full toss from Sean Abbott – through covers to set the ball rolling. Dhawan wasn’t one to miss out and picked up two boundaries too – one through cover and the second through midwicket.
Thereafter Warner took off and the RCB bowlers found no answers to keep him quiet. Harshal Patel’s first over cost 20, while Varun Aaron was hit for 15 runs in his second over as SRH raced to 50 in 4.2 overs. Boundaries and sixes came thick and fast; in the first seven overs, the ball had crossed over the ropes on 13 occasions.
Yuzvendra Chahal was introduced into the attack in the eighth over, and though Warner hit him for a six, the bowler had the last laugh as he had the Australian batsman LBW. Warner, who got to his half-century off 24 balls – his fastest effort to the milestone, made 56 from 27 balls and hit six fours and four sixes during his stay at the crease.
SRH got the start they wanted - with the opening pair posting 82 runs on the board – and it was fairly smooth sailing thereafter. Though Chahal had Kane Williamson stumped, there were no further hiccups as Dhawan, who was circumspect when Warner was going hammer and tongs, batted through and steered his team past the finish line. The left-handed Dhawan made 50 from 42 balls, and he had the company of KL Rahul (44) at the other end; the third wicket pair added 78 runs in 51 balls as SRH got passed the target with 16 balls to spare.
Except for Yuzvendra Chahal – who finished with respectable figures of 2 for 28 from his four overs, the rest of the RCB bowlers had a second forgettable outing.
Earlier in the evening, on a pitch that was freshened up by pre-match showers, the RCB openers Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli came out with positive intent and snatched the early initiative. Gayle set the ball rolling, launching himself and hitting Trent Boult for a six off the third ball he faced. The Jamaican hit three more boundaries and Kohli joined in the act, hitting two fours and a six, the former was dismissed in the sixth over. Praveen Kumar landed a half-volley on the pads, and Gayle whipped it off his legs, only to find Ashish Reddy at square-leg. Gayle made 21 from 16 balls and RCB were reduced to 43 for 1.
Dinesh Karthik and Kohli added 34 runs, with the latter scoring the bulk of the runs in the partnership. Karthik was dismissed in the 11th over when he attempted a slog sweep, but the ball took the leading edge and landed in the safe hands of Kane Williamson. RCB slipped dramatically soon after as Kohli had his stumps rearranged and Mandeep Singh was pouched by a sensational catch by David Warner.
AB de Villiers who finished innings top-scorer for RCB, was involved in two brief but useful partnerships; he added 32 runs in the company of Darren Sammy and a further 27 runs in the company of Sean Abbott. The South African favoured the leg-side generally; he attempted to hit Ravi Bopara over long-on, but was lucky in that the fielder on the fence – Shikhar Dhawan – took the catch but landed beyond the boundary after completing the catch. He then deposited Ashish Reddy into the stands at deep square-leg with the means of a slog-sweep. He was dismissed in the 19th over when he attempted to slash a Trent Boult wide delivery, but found Dhawan patrolling the sweeper cover boundary; he made 46 from 28 balls. Post de Villiers’ dismissal, the RCB innings feel off the tracks as they lost four wickets in nine deliveries to become the first team to be bowled out for 166.
For Sunrisers Hyderabad, leg-spinner Karn Sharma was the most economical bowler, finishing with returns of 1 for 20, while Trent Boult was the most successful picking up three wickets.
that's all from today. Join us tomorrow for tomorrow's clash as RR look for revenge from last year's final group stage, which they were eliminated of the final ball by MI. Tomorrow it's the big clash between the two teams once again.
Rajasthan Royals will play the role of hosts for the first time in Pepsi IPL 2015 when they take on the Mumbai Indians in Match 9.
The home side should be brimming with confidence given they come into this fixture with two wins from two outings. In their season opener they caused an upset of sorts by defeating last season’s runner-up Kings XI Punjab by 26 runs in Pune. That was followed by a thrilling last-ball three wicket win over the Delhi Daredevils. That RR’s wins have come without any substantial contribution from Steve Smith and Shane Watson – who were seen as their most important players leading into the season – augurs well for the team.
Shane Watson, if he has recovered sufficiently from the injury that forced him to miss the first two matches, will be a key to RR’s success along with Ajinkya Rahane and Steve Smith. Deepak Hooda has fast established a reputation as someone to follow closely; the 19-year old contributed a handy 15-ball 30 in the win against Kings XI Punjab and then powered his team to a 3-wicket win over the Delhi Daredevils with his 25-ball 54.
James Faulkner can touch speeds in excess of 145kph, but his slower deliveries – which can be as slow as 125kph - are very difficult to pick and cause most trouble. On the sluggish surface one can expect at the Sardar Patel Stadium, the Australian can become a very difficult customer to score off.
The Mumbai Indians have played two matches but are yet to get their first points on the board. They lost to the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders in the season opener and then came a cropper in the match against Kings XI Punjab; the margin of defeat in that match might only read 18 runs, but in reality MI were never in the contest after being reduced to 59 for 6 in their pursuit of 178.
There is no denying that Rohit Sharma is the best batsman in the Mumbai Indians lineup; the 27-year old has the game to drop anchor, build an innings and play the big shots too. In promoting himself to open the innings, he has given himself the chance to bat for majority of the innings. If he can do so, chances are MI will have plenty of runs on the board and give the stroke-makers like Kieron Pollard and Corey Anderson to play their shots at the backend of the innings.
Harbhajan Singh, and whoever happens to be his spin bowling partner, will be key in MI’s bowling plans given the surface has historically tended to assist the slow bowlers. The off-spinner was terrific in the match against KXIP, making good use of flight and bowling the right pace, and will be expected to keep the pressure on the RR batsmen once again.
In my opinion, I would give RR the edge due to their recent form & their all round performance from Deepak Hooda.
