I have played many Pokemon games
before; even hacks and fanmade Pokemon games. Even a couple of
scary ones. But none of them can compare to this one... It was
early 2014, when... it happened. I've always liked going to
pawn shops. Well, fortunately, one had just opened up around the
corner! So, I decided to check it out. They didn't seem to have
anything that I was interested in. Of course, they were still
unpacking things. It was... quite empty. I didn't even see a
cashier, let alone customer. But I instantly lost my focus on that
when I saw a cartridge sitting on the desk across from me. It
looked like a Pokemon cartridge! Yes! Time to relive my childhood
with a bit with some nostalgia. I was all excited, that is, until I
read the cover. 'Pokemon Bronze Version'. Hm... a hack. Well, it
was worth a try, right? Just then, the owner of the new pawn shop
came out, with a smile. "Hello! Can I help you?" She asked, while
glancing at the game and back at me. "Some man kindly donated it
today! He said he has had it for awhile, since it had belonged to
his child. He didn't seem to want to give it away, but... he said
it belonged to his son and, well... he had been missing for almost
a year..." I looked at her, completely shocked. I didn't want to
buy it now... But, considering it was donated, I bought it
regardless. Worst mistake I've EVER made! If only I had
listen to myself and denied. "Thanks you for your purchase!" The
owner said. I had this sudden urge to ask her if she had learned
anything else about the missing child. "Well, he did say something
about it being in the paper..." Figures, I never read the paper.
"In fact, I remember keeping it. I always keep newspapers with
missing people on it, just in case. I can get it for you, if you
want." She went into the back room and came back out. She handed to
me and I immediately saw the article. 'MISSING!!!' It had a picture
of a boy above the words. He looked as if he was... depressed, or
haunted... No, what am I saying? Haunted, come on. I read on.
'Name: Luke. Age: 11. Time of disappearance: December 28th,
(Friday), 2012.' I read past everything, being it was just contact
information. 'Last seen: In the boys room playing a handheld video
game.' Video game? Maybe... no! It can't be... I thought. I glanced
at the game and swallowed. I asked if I could keep the paper and
she nodded. I took it home and raced to the computer. I typed
Missing child, 2012, Luke in the search bar. I saw information
about it everywhere. How did I manage to miss this? It occured on
December 28th, 2012. Well, that was obvious, since I saw that in
the newspaper. I did some more research and still couldn't find
anything about what game he was playing at the time. I did,
however, find out that he did not own a DS of any sort, but did own
a Gameboy Advance. This made me sweat. I should have just thrown
the damn game away. But I kept it, in respect of Luke. I swear I
make the worst decisions. I inserted the cartridge into the
Gameboy Advance that I had owned. At first, the Nintendo logo was
glitched when I had turned it on. It did that sometimes. But little
did I know that it was a sign; no, a warning. One that I was
foolish enough not to heed. I shrugged it off, telling myself over
and over again that nothing was wrong. I flicked the game back on.
This time, it worked! I noticed that the game was... different,
somehow... The I pressed start. I saw the games save file. I
clicked it, curious of how far he had gotten. I checked the trainer
card. The trainer sprite was completely different. Gold, (Ethan,
trainer) didn't even have a hat! The sprite had short hair, no hat,
no bag, jeans and... this smirk. The smirk was the worst. In fact,
the smirk, no... the whole outfit looked exactly like Luke's
in one of his pictures! At this point, I was terrified. Maybe this
is all a dream... I thought. But it was way to realistic to be a
dream. I compared one of the pictures with the trainer sprite. They
were identical. Both of their outfits were exactly the same, as
well as the smirks. I was tempted to turn the game off, but I
didn't, out of curiosity. I continued to look through the trainer
card. The day was Friday, the time, 20:12, Pokedex was 28 and he
had 1,228,120. Wait, 1,228,120?! That didn't even make sense! The
caps was 999,999... I shrugged and continued, in confusion. I
wanted to check his Pokemon, so I did. He had a Noctowl level 100
and another one level 0. ... 0?! What does it mean
0?! There is no level 0!! This game was driving me crazy! But I
just couldn't stop! I had to check their stats! First, I checked
the level 100. Its nickname was Past. Its sprite had a happy smile
and its eyebrows were up, happily. It looked way happier than the
original sprite. It had the usual moves. Hypnosis, Aerial Ace, etc.
Then I checked the level 0. Its nickname was future. This sprite
was different, however. The Noctowl was unhappy. Its sprite looked
even more depressing than the official sprite. Its eyebrows made
the sprite look sad and... terrified. Not only that, but, its eyes
were pitch black. But the most disturbing part about this sprite;
was the rope around its neck... At that, I threw the Gameboy on the
desk, in fear. I started to bite my nails. I picked the game back
up from off of the desk. I saw that Future was holding an escape
rope. I tried to take it from Future, but then a text box popped
up. 'No...' No? What does it MEAN no?! I tried to take it
again. 'YOU CANNOT CHANGE HISTORY!' ...I have to level with this
game. I had NO clue as to what that was supposed to mean... I
exited the summary of Future and walked around. Evidently, I was in
New Bark Town. It seemed a lot darker than I can remember. The NPCs
were gone; outside at least. The signs were gone. But there was a
tree where the sign in the middle of the small town used to be, as
well as a grave, which was under the tree. The tree was missing its
leaves, unlike all of the other trees. The town itself had a dark
purple hue to it, instead of green and white. I went into the house
on the left of the town and the NPCs weren't in their spots. The
place was empty, of NPCs at least. It looked like they abandoned
their house since the place was trashed. I left the house and saw
the grave under the tree once again. I didn't really want to read
the text on the grave, so I kept investigating the remaining
houses. I checked Professor Elm's house next. Professor Elm's wife
was sitting down on the bottom left chair; facing down. Her
daughter was sitting down in the top right corner of the room. I
tried talking to the woman first. She simply replied with "...". So
I walked over to the girl. "Why?... Why did he have to die?..."
Well, now I'm horrified. I raced out of the house and entered the
Lab. I talked to the Scientist and he just said "..." like the
other NPC. I walked up to the Professor next.
"Sigh... He was such a good kid too..." I walked out
of the Lab, freaked out. I went to my 'Mom's' house and talked to
her. "My baby... I miss you..." I proceeded upstairs, only to find
the room looking like it always has. So I left the house and tried
to leave the town; when suddenly, a text box popped up. "No..." I
kept trying, only to fail. So... there was only one thing left to
do. I walked over to the grave and clicked on it. "Here lies Luke.
2001-2012." ...The game knew his name, his date of birth and
the day he went missing... Then, out of nowhere, a rope appeared on
one of the branches. A sign also appeared by the tree. I went and
read the sign. It looked like a map... a map in the real world. I
knew where some of the locations were... So, I left my house in
real life and started driving towards the destination. I stopped in
a parking lot, since I had to go into a forest in order to get to
my destination. I finally got there, only to find a tree, missing
its leaves, which was weird because the other trees surrounding it
had leaves... There was a rope dangling from one of the branches, a
sign and a grave. I reluctantly read the sign. "...You're next..."
I screamed and ran back to my car. I got in the car and drove home.
The Gameboy reset, which I had left the game on, since I was
following the map. I pressed start and it said "New game". I
couldn't continue my previous game! I pressed new game and the
intro was normal... except for the fact that I didn't get to set my
name. My eyes widened when my name was called out in the text box.
My name was Viviana. Oh my God, That's my name in real life! The
game knew my damn name!... I went to the lab and tried to pick my
starter, except, the Pokemon were not starter Pokemon. There were
only to Poke balls on the desk. I was able to take them both.
Apparently, I obtained two Noctowl. It wouldn't let me nickname
them, being they already had default nicknames. Past and Future.
Past was level 100 and looked happy, Future was level 0 and looked
terrified. Did I mention its lifeless, pitch black eyes and the
rope?... I went outside and saw the tree again, as well as the rope
and grave. I checked my trainer card, curious on how the trainer
sprite looked. It looks like, no... it looks like me... The day is
Monday, the time, 20:14. Pokedex is 10 and I have 2,101,400. Oh,
God... It all makes since now. The time, the day, the dex number,
the amount of PD... I-I'm going to die... 1 year later.
Alex: "I decided to go to the pawn shop today... Guess what I
found! A cartridge! Hmm... Pokemon Bronze version, eh? Worth a try,
even though it's obviously a hack." Alex bought the game and put
the cartridge in the Gameboy that he had owned. "I guess I'll
continue, just out of curiosity." Alex looked at the trainer card.
"Oh my God, that sprite is weird. Heh, apparently, my name is
Viviana. The day is Monday, the time, 20:14. Pokedex is 10 and I
have... 2,101,400? Weird... Well, this is one interesting hack."
Oh, it's interesting alright. Little did he know...
So... what did you think? Feel free to comment about it! :3
