When I see a pokémon for the first time, I occasionally get mixed up about its design. For example;
Ekans never was a snake for me until I played Crystal. I thought it was like a pyramid with one eye and a big mouth. Also I thought it was psy-type because it was very hard to see the part of the tail who has the little balls, and they looked like they were floating.

And when I played Sapphire for the first time, I always thought Nosepass had one leg, and the other thing was its mouth, and it was whistling.
It was so cute and derp xD

Have any of you guys experienced anything like this before?

Yes, this happened to me with Goomy :D

I wasnt sure if the green things on the cheeks were its eyes and the small dots were its nostrils
OR
if the small dots were its eyes and the green things just cheeks like Pikachu xD

You see it on this image better:

With the green cheeks as its eyes it looked like a super-cute Alien slug xD

I didn't notice that Muk has two arms until I used a Muk in White/Black, because the only sprite that show both of they is a 3rd gen one, and I skip that generation.

<You can see an arm here

<I think that thing in the floor is an arm.
