this story is about a boy who was raised in a Team Rocket based home. It will get dark and will have some child abuse in it. As it's a touchy subject I'm giving a fair warning. Read at your own risk.

Dull light was all the boy knew, he had been born into a dark world. That was unusually cold, and foreboding. He was only three, and was unsure on what was going on around him most the time, his father, a 26 year old man with frosty blue eyes, a lot like his own, and silvery brown hair seemed to love him. Though at the same time, the older man seemed to hate him.

Right now the boy saw his father sitting in his desk in the apartment they shared. His dad's boss often visited, but the boy's mom had been missing since he was six months old, he hadn't even remembered her all that well. All he remembered from her was her gentle voice, it always seemed to relax him when he thought about it. "Daddad dada dad!" The boy said in a cheerful tone and ran over to the older man. His frosty blue eyes were shining in enthusiasm as if he had found the world's strongest Pokémon for his father's collection.

"Not now, Snow. I'm planning something for a special day." The older man said gruffly, and tapped the eraser of the pencil he was using to the paper he was writing on a few times.

Snow tipped his head to the side and climbed up into the chair to take a look at what the older man was working on. Though he was too young to read, he recognized a word from a children's book. "Pichu? Whatcha gonna do wif a Pichu?" Snow asked curiously.

His dad sighed, as if annoyed and put Snow on the ground. "My boss wants me to show you how to catch a Pokemon." He said quietly.

Snow blinked, "but, dad! I'm not old nuf." He said in confusion and tipped his head to the side.

"I know, but we're not going to catch a wild one." The man said quietly and looked at Snow.

Snow blinked, and looked confused. He had heard stories of trainers from his father's work capturing tame Pokémon. "Stealin is wrong." Snow said quietly.

"It won't be wrong if the person were catching from is dead." His dad said in a low tone. Hatred seemed to come from his annoyed tone, and Snow flinched.

"W-wha? We're not gonna hurt anyone are we?" Snow asked in shock, and looked scared. He took a few steps backwards.

"No we won't hurt anyone." His dad said quickly, though Snow heard the familiar tone that marked he was lying. The young boy had picked up on lies and how to notice them at a young age.

Snow nodded, and forced himself to sound convinced. "Okay. When are we going?" He asked evenly.

"We'll leave at once, Elm will want to take Lion and Tiger into Viridian Forest to celebrate Tiger's birthday, and show them some Pokémon." The man said quietly as if he were more talking to himself than anything else.

"Elm, Lion, Tiger?" Snow said in confusion. He didn't know who they were, in fact the only people he knew were his father, Frost. His dad's boss, Giovanni, and his mom. He had never left the apartment, and he never met anyone who was as old as him.

Frost blinked, "they're old friends of mine." He said bluntly. Snow nodded. "Come on, let's go. We're wasting daylight." He said lowly and grabbed a strange looking pokeball, before Snow could get a good look at it however, Frost called his Alakazam out and the Pokemon teleported him and his father away from the dark apartment.

Snow took in the scenery with an amazed look. The sunlight was so bright, and the trees were huge from his position on the ground. It was his first time being outside, and he was excited. He looked at the sky, and just like the cartoons that had kept him company for his short life, was a bright and brilliant blue. Even though it was dark where he was standing, it seemed brighter and more brilliant than the small apartment that he shared with his father. He looked around and watched as a few caterpie and butterfree passed by his dad. Snow tipped his head to try and get a look at his father's expression.

Snow at first expected to see wonder in his father's eyes as a butterfree landed on his head, but instead, Frost had the same annoyed look. He growled and swatted the Butterfree away. The pokemon gave off a small cry and flew off. "Dad?" Snow asked in a whisper. He decided to break the silence as he watched the pokemon fly off with a frown.

"Snow. Don't call me that when we're on a mission." Frost said in a cold growl. Snow blinked and raised an eyebrow.

"Why not?" Snow asked in confusion. He had always called his dad, dad, even when he was upset. It was strange to call Frost anything but his dad, as he had never used the name Frost for his father before.

"Because we'll get caught if you do. You don't want to be caught do you?" Frost asked quietly and glanced at Snow.

Snow blinked and tipped his head to the side. He looked up to Frost with wide eyes and looked interested. "What'll happen if we're caught?" He whispered in wonder.

"A very bad person will take you away from me, and you'll be forced to stay in a small room. Smaller than our home, and there's nothing to do inside." Frost said in a dark and foreboding tone that scared Snow.

"I-I don't want to go into that room." Snow said in a fearful tone and flinched. He looked around the forest wildly as if he thought the very bad person would show up at any moment. He felt his heart race, and noticed that Frost had gone a pretty far distance from him. "Frost wait!" Snow said in a scared tone and ran after his father.

Frost didn't slow down, he kept walking at his normal pace. Snow squeaked in shock and panted as his lungs began to cry out for him to stop. He hadn't really run much so his stamina was on par with a Snorlax's. He shook his head and tried to catch up to his dad. Snow had only managed to catch up when Frost held a hand out for Snow to stop running. Snow hit Frost's hand causing his father to growl in an annoyed tone, and Snow fell into the dirt.

"Uh what are we doing here?" Snow asked curiously, and noticed that Frost had grabbed a pokeball. Snow blinked, it wasn't the strange black pokeball that he had always seen. Instead it was a red one. Similar to the ones that he had seen whenever a new trainer would come by the house to talk to Frost. They would always leave the red pokeball behind in favor of a black one with a red marking on it. Snow blinked in confusion, and struggled to his feet as his father called out an orange pokemon. It had yellow cheeks and a long tail with a lightning bolt at the tip. The pokemon's brown eyes seemed distant and angry. The pokemon had always been in an upset mood, it's been that way ever since Snow could remember. The pokemon looked at Frost, and Frost whispered something before nodding. The pokemon ran off. "Frost? What was that about?" Snow asked in a quiet tone.

"Raichu is getting your pokemon." Frost said lowly and growled. Snow frowned at the tone of his father. Snow was afraid that he had upset Frost somehow, but he felt he should be used to it by now. He just nodded in response and watched as the Raichu ran off and darted through the forest.

Snow watched as the Raichu disappeared into the bushes. He was about to continue down the path when Frost grabbed his wrist. "Snow stop." Frost said lowly.

Snow blinked and stopped in his tracks. He was about to ask a question when he heard an excited squeak of a pokemon, followed by a rather shocked yell. "Pichu! W-wait up!" The voice called out from the distance.

The sounds of grass rustling and a flash of purple from a few feet away caught Snow's attention, as well as the curiosity to whom the voice belonged to. "Snow!" Frost growled and nudged Snow to get his attention.

Snow blinked, he shook his head getting his mind off of the color purple. "What?" He asked in a quiet whisper.

His father didn't respond, instead, Frost handed Snow a black pokeball with a red marking. It was the same exact type that contained the Blastoise his father owned. Snow looked through the top at what was inside and noticed it was empty. "Why do I need-" He was cut off as his father growled and pushed Snow back the way they came, and in the direction of the Raichu.

Trees and bushes whipped by them as Frost lead Snow towards the voice that was telling Raichu to stop. Snow looked around and tried to see who exactly was yelling. He soon spotted him, a boy about five years old, he had emerald green eyes, tan skin, and brown and black hair. For some reason, Snow couldn't shake off the feeling that he recognized the boy. He was wearing a red t-shirt and blue jeans, the boy was chasing after Pichu, who was trying to reach Frost's Raichu. Snow tipped his head to the side as he was trying to make out the exact reason why Pichu looked so excited, and sad, to see the Raichu. "When Raichu gets back, grab the Pichu." Frost whispered lowly.

Snow blinked, "why? Shouldn't I just use the ball?" He asked curiously. Frost sighed and shook his head before nodding to Raichu. The pokemon then jumped up and used an iron tail striking the Pichu and stunning it. Pichu gave off a shocked and hurt cry. Snow flinched as he recognized the pain in the Pichu's cry. It wasn't physical, but emotional. As if the small pokemon was hurt by someone that he was close to. "Frost? How does the Raichu know Pichu?" Snow whispered quietly.

Frost sighed and looked at Raichu, the pokemon pulled Pichu over to Snow. "Raichu is Pichu's dad." He said lowly. Snow blinked, and looked at the Pichu who was giving off a scared sounding. "Pichu Pi!" Snow flinched and looked up as he saw the boy catching up to him.

"Wait please!" The boy yelled and ran. Snow could see tears in his emerald gaze.

"Dad we should return the Pichu to him." Snow blurted out feeling awful for this whole mess. He was about to call out to the trainer when Frost called a pokemon out of a pokeball. This pokemon was huge, about 12'6, he had red, green, and gold feathers. The large pokemon quickly darted into the air and flew towards a different part of the forest. Frost was holding a feather from the pokemon.

"Snow! Stop trying to be good. We're the ones who will always hurt and steal." Frost growled lowly. "We are always going to steal, and gather pokemon for the glory of Team Rocket!" He said lowly. "And we will always steal pokemon from weaklings like him." He said lowly and nodded to the boy who was still running towards them. Snow looked into Frost's eyes and noticed a small hint of something that he couldn't recognize. It seemed confused, disappointed, and hurt. Snow shifted his weight, and felt Frost's arm grab his wrist, he began to flee the area with Raichu following quickly. Snow and Pichu were being dragged away quickly.

"What if I don't want to be bad!" Snow said in a defiant tone and looked at Frost with a frown. "I mean stealing is wrong, and so is hurting people." He growled as he remembered moral messages from some of the cartoons he was raised on.

"Then you can try and live on your own." Frost said in a cold tone and growled. "But if you do, society will never accept you, and you will be blamed for everything you've done. Starting with stealing this Pichu." Frost said lowly as the small group ran from the crying boy behind them. The boy was growing further and further away. His voice was weak and distant now. Snow could barely make out one last cry for help as the boy's voice echoed in the darkness.

Snow looked over his shoulder and saw the boy trip over a root of a tree. Pichu called out one more pitiful, "Pichu Pi!" As the trees closed and the group lost the boy. Snow frowned and looked at the strange pokeball. He had a few fearful thoughts go through his mind as he was afraid of what Frost said. He wasn't sure what a society was, but he didn't want to leave Rocket or his father if he wasn't going to be accepted.

Light filtered through the window of a small room. The walls of the room were blank and bare with the color white reflecting the light harshly in the room making it seem bright. Snow groaned and pulled the thin sheets he used to keep himself warm at night over his face to block out the sun. He gave up and sat up as the light shone through the sheets. He yawned. Pichu was still inside the black pokeball, he had been in there for a few months. Snow had been afraid to let the small pokemon out. “Maybe I should let him out.” He said quietly and looked around. He grabbed the pokeball and called Pichu out.

The small yellow pokemon fell out of the pokeball and landed on his face. At first, Snow thought he had hurt the pokemon. Inching closer and closer to the small pokemon, Snow held his hand out and gently poked the Pichu’s shoulder. “Pichu! CHU!” Pichu yelled angrily and growled at Snow. He jumped to his feet and gave Snow a cold glare. The once fearful brown gaze was now replaced with a cold and foreboding look. The pokemon looked as if he had no emotion when he slowly went for Snow.

“No! Stop please. I don’t want to hur-” Snow was cut off as he slipped on the pokeball. He heard a small, crack, and fell to the ground. Just before the Pichu used a volt tackle, Snow noticed that the small red mark on the top of the ball had a red computer chip. The chip had broken and Pichu fell to the ground. “Oh no!” Snow squeaked in shock and ran over to his pokemon. He looked around the room in shock, and was grateful that his dad had left him alone, again, for some mission. He cautiously picked the Pichu up.

“P-Pi-Pichu.” Pichu stuttered out and slowly regained consciousness. He looked at Snow in shock and gave off a fearful, “Chu, Pichu!” Snow watched as the Pichu shivered and tried to break free of his grasp. “P-Pichu.”

“No it’s okay. Calm down.” Snow whispered softly and held the Pichu close. “I don’t wanna scare or hurt you. I’m not gonna.” He said quietly.

Pichu seemed to relax, but only slightly. He looked at Snow as if he were measuring an opponent up. Snow blinked and gently let go of the small pokemon. He crouched down to Pichu’s level, and the electric mouse walked over to Snow cautiously. “Pi?”

“Promise. I’m here, I don’t want to hurt you. After all.” Snow said gently and quietly. He looked around as if he were making sure he wasn’t heard. “Pokemon and humans should be friends right?” He whispered quietly. Pichu blinked, as if in shock. He then hesitantly nodded and jumped into Snow’s arms as if he were afraid.

Snow blinked and held the Pichu close. He knew he broke something on the pokeball, as it seemed that Pichu wasn’t as hostile as he originally was. Whatever that pokeball did to Pichu, he wasn’t going to fix it. “It’s okay Pichu.” Snow whispered quietly and looked thoughtful. “Oh I know! Let’s get some food. Breakfast always makes me happy!” Snow said happily and walked out of the bedroom with Pichu in his arms.

The duo walked into the small kitchen. Snow opened the fridge and looked around. There wasn’t much inside the fridge, just some fresh water, and a jar of oran berry jelly. “Let’s see…” Snow said thoughtfully and gently placed Pichu on the counter. He grabbed the jelly and closed the fridge before grabbing a chair and pushing it to the counter. He climbed on top of the chair and went onto the counter where he opened a cabinet and grabbed a loaf of bread and jar of peanut butter. “We have peanut butter, oran berry jelly, and bread. Wanna sandwich?” Snow asked kindly and looked over to his new friend.

“Pic?” Pichu said in a questioning manner. He looked at the bread for a moment. Snow raised an eyebrow as Pichu sniffed at the loaf of bread.

“What’s wrong? Have you ever had rye bread before?” Snow asked curiously.

“Pi.” Pichu said bluntly, his tone gave the answer away as if the pokemon had said it loud and clear. Confusion filled the pokemon’s gaze as he sniffed at the piece of bread that Snow had pulled from the loaf.

“Uh, here try it.” Snow said gently and tore off a bit of the bread from the slice. He handed it to Pichu, who took a cautious bite. The pokemon squeaked in a gleeful manner and ate the bread. “Do you like it?” Snow asked in a sheepish manner. Pichu nodded and smiled happily as he finished the bit of bread.

“Chu!” Pichu said gleefully. He finished the bit of bread and took what Snow had in his hand causing the boy to laugh in amusement.

“You like it!” Snow said cheerfully. Pichu nodded and smiled at Snow, the small pokemon then jumped onto Snow’s head. Snow giggled in amusement and smiled at Pichu, who returned the smile cheerfully. “Hm. You know Pichu, I wanna give you a nickname. After all you’re my friend. What should I call you?” He said gently.

“Pi!” Pichu said cheerfully and Snow shook his head. Pichu tilted his head to the side and blinked before sighing. “Chu? Pichu?” Pichu said quietly.

Snow sighed and tapped his chin. He then grabbed an old collar, it was tattered and burnt most likely from a fire pokemon fighting it. Snow looked at it and grabbed a permanent marker. He crossed out the old name, which was Sam, and wrote down how he thought ‘Rye’ was spelt. “R-a-i...Rai! I’m gonna call you Rai.” Snow said kindly and showed the collar to Pichu. “What do you think about that?” He asked kindly.

Pichu sniffed the collar for a moment and squeaked cheerfully. “Pichu chu!” Pichu said happily and allowed Snow to put the collar on his neck. It was a black collar with a small golden pattern on the middle part. The charm where the name tag was looked like a wave, Snow smiled and looked at the collar before petting Rai on the head.

“We’re gonna be the bestest friends in the world.” Snow said happily and hugged Pichu. Pichu smiled and returned the hug. Snow soon broke the hug and made himself breakfast. The two then went into the living room to watch TV together. For the first time in his life, Snow had a real friend.
