Stanley and Narrator still hadn’t decided whether or not to leave.

“I say we leave.”

[I say we stay. Why not? We should stay safe for now.]

Narrator chuckled. “I certainly did. Would you like to get going this morning?” Perhaps it would for the best if they would leave the cottage. Sure, shelter was nice, but Narrator’s mind was set on returning back to his and Stanley’s home world.

Stanley thought on the request for a moment. [Hm…Maybe. It’s nice here.]

Eventually, The Narrator woke up as well. He blinked his eyes open to see Stanley staring down at him. “Ah! Good morning, Stanley.” His voice was still scratchy from sleep, but it would get back to normal eventually.

[Morning. You slept well.]

Finally, after quite a while, Stanley woke up. He wouldn’t move for quite a while though, as he didn’t want to disturb Narrator. It was the first real sleep that the two had had in quite a while, they were going to enjoy it.

Stanley and The Narrator had fallen asleep on each other, sitting rather upright. Narrator had his head one Stanley’s shoulder and Stanley’s own head was resting on Narrator’s. It was quite the display.

Both Stanley and Narrator Went over to Mercy, telling her in their own ways to take care of herself.

“Ma’am, I do believe you should sit down. You look pale.”

[He’s right-]

“Why thank you Stanley I’m glad you think so-“

[Shut.] Stanley made a mouth shutting gesture with his hand towards Narrator, who chuckled and rolled his eyes. [Mercy, was it? You need some rest. I’m sure everyone here is capable of taking care of themselves.]

Narrator let out a sigh of relief when he felt a pulse. “Whatever it is you’re doing, it seems to be working.” He stated, turning his head towards Cloudy the slightest bit. He was honestly adjusting well to being around more than literally three people, Stanley thought. He thought it would have taken The Narrator longer. But, no, Narrator decided to surprise Stanley.

Stanley had moved away from the chaos, but watched, hoping to do anything he could to help. Narrator, however, was ejected from the couch. He might as well be useful. He pressed two fingers to Mercy’s neck, feeling for a pulse.

Stanley took note of Mercy’s condition almost immediately. He shot a glace towards Narrator that was received with a nod of approval, then jumped up from where he was sitting to try to help steady Mercy. He finger spelled with one hand, hoping Mercy spoke at least a bit of sign.

[Do you need to sit?]

Stanley listened carefully, making sure to note everything Mercy said in his brain. The prospect of something trying to corrupt or glitch the world that he and The Narrator were hastily dropped into was frightening, but he tried to keep his cool. He had been through the end of the world before. He could do it again.

Narrator nodded in agreement. “I agree. Staying calm and collected is important.” He tried to gloss over the last part of what Mercy said. Places from other worlds appearing in this one? Could that then mean that his own story was compromised in some way? No. He would not even think it. All they needed to do was to get back to the Parable. But then Cloudy spoke up, and the wall Narrator was hastily trying to build came tumbling down.

“Yes, yes, very ‘not good’. My story could possibly be compromised! The thing I have put literal decades of my life into refining!”

Stanley rolled his eyes. There he goes again, talking about that stupid story.

“And not just that!- Stanley, I saw that, this pertains to you too-“

Well, this was awkward. Narrator tapped his fingers on his pants, and Stanley fiddled with his hands.

“Well, it is…ehem…nice to meet you.” At least it was something to fill the silence.

Narrator blinked back. Well, that was quite the sentence. Of course! Of course Cloudy lived here! Narrator and Stanley were intruding on someone else’s home! How rude.

“Ah. Well…uhm….it’s quite the house, hm?”

Stanley shot Narrator something reminiscent of a death glare. That was probably not the best thing to say.

[Really? That’s the best you can come up with?]

“What would you say, Stanley? Please, do tell me.”

Stanley sat in silence for a minute.

[Alright, Nevermind.]

(Apologies, I fell asleep)

Stanley physically jolted backwards when Cloudy pointed at him. Luckily, Narrator was there to jump in. He was always there to jump in.

“This is Stanley. I am The Narrator. May I ask who exactly you are?” Quick, clear, and concise. Giving out just enough information to answer Cloudy’s question, but not too much. Not any information that might endanger them.

Finally, after quite a long while of not talking, Narrator finally spoke up at mention of Undertale. Perhaps the others in the cottage hadn’t noticed either him or Stanley! Might as well make his voice heard.

“Ah! Undertale! That’s that quaint little indie game with skeletons and human children, yes? I must admit, I have heard it is quite the interesting game.”

Really, neither Stanley nor Narrator knew what to do at this point. So they sat, on the floor of the cottage, neither one speaking a word. Normally, at least Narrator would be chatting up a storm, but even he had no idea where to start.

Stanley did as instructed and kept watch over the unconscious Obsidian. Even for someone who pushes buttons for a living, this was getting a bit boring. It seemed like Narrator agreed with that thought, as he was messing with his clothes and tapping his fingers on his pants like no tomorrow. He kept turning over the strange woman’s words in his mind. A war? Not just a war but another war? Had they been dropped into an apocalypse?

Stanley glanced back at Narrator, signaling that translation was probably needed.

“Ah! Yes, of course, Stanley.” Narrator straightened up, brushing non-existant dust particles from his suit. “Go on.”

[We’re fine, thanks. I think they sent their bird out for help.]

“Yes, we’re alright, thank you. Stanley here thinks that whoever this-“ Narrator gestured at Obsidian “-is, they sent out their oddly large bird for help.”

Stanley couldn’t help but smile. Narrator truly wouldn’t be himself without some embellishments in translation. He nodded, to show that that was, indeed, basically what he said.

[Wait, wait wait, Narrator stop freaking out for a minute.]

“STANLEY THERE IS A GIANT BIRD ON ME I THINK I AM ALLOWED TO FREAK OUT.”

[No, no, it’s telling us something.]

Stanley’s eyes followed to where Staraptor was pointing, then widened as he saw Obsidian on the ground.

[Person, on the ground. They look hurt.]

Narrator’s head jolted towards where Stanley was gesturing to, no doubt knocking Staraptor off. His eyes widened as well as he took in the scene.

“Well, what do you expect us to do? This isn’t our problem, Stanley.”

[They need help. I think this bird is theirs.] Stanley’s expression hardened into determination. Ah. The classic stubborn Stanley look. Once he set his mind to something, there was no going back.

Narrator sighed as he messed with his hair, putting it back into position. “Fine, Stanley, you win.”

At that, Stanley vaulted over the bush and went over to Obsidian. Narrator followed close behind, not wanting to be left alone.

“Well it seems that the odd bird is getting closer? OH GOODNESS GRACIOUS-“

Stanley had to duck as the Staraptor just barely flew above his head. His eyes still followed its flight however, and he had to stifle a laugh as the bird landed directly on Narrator’s head. Narrator just about froze, and he locked eyes with Stanley.

“Stanley. I hate to say this request like this, but get this thing off of me.”

That was enough to make Stanley double over with laughter.

“DO NOT LAUGH, THIS IS SERIOUS!”

As the two men drew nearer to the cottage, they noticed….well something was certainly happening over there.

Stanley tapped on Narrator’s shoulder, signaling that perhaps they should find some cover. He ducked behind some bushes, Narrator following shortly after.

Narrator mumbled to himself, hopefully not loud enough for anyone besides Stanley to hear.

“A- A bird? A whirlpool? What is going on?”

Stanley simply shrugged.
