That's good to know...? (not sure what to write to communicate that I've read it and am dropping that point)

You do realize you can change the font used for text boxes, right? For me, the same font used in the text boxes displays the text "Posted: Sun, 08/09/2013 17:46 (10 Minutes ago)" as well as "Posted by Riako" on the main page which looks like Courier. I'm not going to delve into your style sheet(s), I believe that's rude and intrusive, to figure out which serif font is used for the fixed bar and the navigation "titles" (Home, Town, Settings, Community), but please be aware that it displays as a sans-serif font.

Also, this isn't intended as an attack, just a critique. I believe it's better to inform someone of potential problems rather than idly standing by. So, if I didn't care, I wouldn't have put the time and effort into outlining what looks "off."

The fonts used to type in the forum text box, the information at the top of forum posts (Posted: ...), the navigation "titles" (not the drop down links), and the text displayed in the fixed bar at the top of all pages are serif fonts. I can take a screenshot and post what I'm seeing if you'd like.

I respectfully disagree with your design choice for the distribution of rounded and angled corners.

I'm not implying that you did.
Nor does anyone see a bright, sunlit beach 24/7 outside at the end of summer. Maybe the north pole still has 24 hours of daylight, but it's kinda chilly up there. It's about visual communication. If your intent was to communicate the end of summer, the current image doesn't do that. The sunset thing was off the top of my head and going with the island/beach/ocean theme in your current background. (Sunset = end, beach = summer) I'm sure other people will come up with different things that communicate the "end of summer."

Regarding SummerLight's point: True, but there would be distinct lack of season.

I have to agree with Sketchi, the background is more appropriate for summer, not "end of summer," a sunset at the beach would be far more appropriate for that. It looks nice, but does not fit with classes starting back up, the start of football season, or pumpkin spice latte returning to Starbucks.

Also, with the changes being made to the design of this site, it just feels very "thrown together." Some elements have rounded corners while others still have sharp ones, the multiple hues of blue used, the variety of fonts used (the mixing of serif and sans-serif is particularly distracting), and now the banner image doesn't even match. I'd suggest making a cohesive design instead of changing one element every week or so. (imho, the buttons feel very "cookie-cutter" and could have been done better)

After reading through some of the comments, it sounds like this guide is geared towards Pokemon-styled spriting and my initial reactions aren't as important to tweak.

First, spriting and pixel art are essentially the same. Sprites are used in games and is encompassed within the "definition" of pixel art.

Second, anti-aliasing should not be automatically written off. Obviously if you're using a program to a-a for you, it won't turn out nicely. But doing it by hand and choosing what to a-a can help with lines that aren't vertical, horizontal, or at a 45 degree angle.

Random thoughts:
Originally, the goal of spriting was to use a small palette to save space (more colors = more info that needs to be remembered), thus the importance of dithering. I don't adhere to that practice, but it's an interesting tidbit.
Not sure if you covered this, but only gifs can save animation.
And a tactic someone can use when working with a "layerless" program is multiple saves. Get your lines done and before and after each large change made (different shading styles particularly), save it under a different name. So something like pixel-base.gif, pixel-1.gif, pixel-2.gif, etc. I did that a lot when I was messing around with graphic elements and found it helpful and the same thought can be applied for things like paint so I figured I'd share.

I'm sorry if I came off as harsh, it's not my intent. Props for compiling a guide! I know I wouldn't have the patience or time to do that! xD

I, actually, oppose some of acer's suggestions, particularly "most nuggets." If the intent is to increase donations, an actual raffle (what's being held now is a giveaway as no one had to purchase anything to enter) could be held. Ranking people based on how much money a person is able to put into a free to play game is quite petty. If retro starters are unbreedable, I have no idea and didn't bother looking into it, I have the same feeling about those.

"Most price exchanges in the gamecorner" gives me pause as well. Partially because I have no idea if she meant "prize" instead of "price" or "Most Pokedollars exchanged for game coins." If it's the latter, I have no problems with it, but the former should be tweaked such that those people who have been saving for something big aren't shut out. "Most game coins exchanged" is a better option. Same thought goes for "most shop items bought."

I'm not particularly fond of "Most Pokemon of the same species" because it encourages hoarding, but I get the feeling that quite a few people on here enjoy hoarding so I'm content in merely voicing my displeasure.

Also, given that "most interactions" was already given a "no," I would figure that "most interactions received" would be similar enough and given the same.

First one was a random Rattata in Silver; what happened to Mituna happened to me too, especially because Gameboy Pocket = no color xD Second was a Miltank in HG. Whatever other shinies I have were RNGed; I think I only did Vulpix and Charmander though xD

I just like pairing words up; sometimes I'll take a song title (an IGN of mine was PsychoButterfly) but most of the time I just like the thought or "feel" a combo of words brings. "Silver" + "Dreamer" makes very little to no logical sense, but it's my favorite thus far. And spaces are boring, hyphens were (nowadays there's so many usernames that sometimes you have no choice) over used, so the underscore was the remaining, logical word separator.

@Nerymon: Nifty username and, regarding your signature, true story!

I think I understand what Autumn was saying now: that what's in Sky Gifts on PH will not be based on what's contained in them in PMD. Is that correct?

@Death Thanks for the info.

I guess it's the contradicting thoughts of giving a meaningful gift that really isn't anything special. Honestly, I don't care about what's in the box; I'm just trying to figure out how you people think. Because, right now, I'm confused...

Just because I'm not quite following your first sentence, I've never received a Sky Gift in PMD nor have I done any research into them. This is going to sound pathetic, but I have no IRL friends who play Pokemon, so there's less of a reason for me to bother.

Just to clarify, Sky Gifts are to be somewhat meaningful and contain...? Will it be an "it's the thought that counts" sort of gift?

As for random gifting, I like the idea. Personally, I see the way mentioned earlier not gratifying for the giver. I prefer the thought of "donating" an item of your choice to be randomly sent off.

If a Sky Box is automatically sent to a random user, I don't see how it's any different from finding an item yourself (like an itemfinder). I support being able to send it to friends or selecting a user from a list/typing in a username; with restrictions of course. Other than ideas already mentioned, maybe force whoever finds the Sky Box to select a user to send it to once it's obtained (including a random option plus any sort of receiving-based "cool down"). So they can't set anything up right then and there and, with a cool down in place, two, or more, people couldn't agree to to just send the other all of their Sky Gifts.

I also support that the contents of the box is a common item.

I understand why some people are complaining; the first post can be a bit misleading... First, it states "It seems to only show in front of people who share a lot of love and happiness. So if you now start to spread love by interacting with many Pokémon, then it might want to join you!" which implies the more you interact, the greater your chances are of encountering Shaymin. Then it goes on to say "The Shaymin might appear randomly after every interaction you make" which, while it does contain the word "randomly" in it, doesn't explicitly state the even itself is random.

tl;dr: The first post leads the user to believe "more interactions = Shaymin" while not stating the event is purely random.

My request: clarify the first post.
