You can buy Different kinds of Surprises for different prizes :) some will have rarer and less rare items possibilities and some will have a higher or lower amount of items.
There are some categories of rarity of the items, and some categories of the amount of the items:

Categories of the rarity:

Common, Uncommon, Rare, Super Rare, Legendary.

Categories of the size:

Very Small, Small, Medium, Large, Huge.

Please Notice That The Amounts And The Prizes (That Can Be Items Or Pokemon, Usually) Are Random And Chosen By Random. The Larger The Surprise Is, The More Chance Of Higher Amounts Of Pokemon/ Items Given, And The Rarer The Surprise Is, The More Chance Of Getting Rarer Pokemon Or Items.
The Average Worth Of a Prize Is The Amount You Bought It For, But It Might Be Worther, And Might Be Less.

@Delina, sure! send the star pieces with delibird, and when i'll be online i'll send you the star pieces.

@AestheticRowlet, since star piece= 50,000-60,000 and fossils are around 15k-20k, i'll give 3.5:1 (it's worther for seller of star pieces) rate of fossils to star pieces- if you'll only buy 1 i'll give 3, if 2 or more i'll give up to 0.5 more than the amount of fossils i should give (if the amount would be an integer, i'll give it, and if not, i'll give it + 0.5).
