Right now there really isn't an indicator of some sorts to show that someone is online. Theres only two ways which aren't (in my opinion) effective enough.

The first way is to go to their last action on their user page. This isn't reliable because if it says 'Interacting, 5 mins ago', how are we suppossed to know if they are still interacting or not.

The other way I use is PalPad. When you click on the PalPad it shows a dot next to people's names. It's either green or grey. Green for online, grey for offline. However this seems a bit laggy, and this means to check if they're online you have to search the person up.
