	I've played up to Gen VII, and my answer is what I like to call Generation Beta. That is, the original Red and Green games. They're just the Red and Blue we all know, only pretty much objectively worse. [Read more]

(That's my best explanation of what happens to Red if he catches Missingno. The different version means that you need a new cartridge.)
