You just have to wait until your trainer level is high enough. Once you reach a certain level(and you can check the wiki about the exact lvl you need) then it will appear in your town bar.

I know what I would like to be, but if I was actually in the game, I would be a trainer girl that all Pokemon love. Even IRL, I am really good with animals. I would be able to get a rly good team, and leveling up with happyness would be no problem.

Tbh, I have a heck ton of purrloin from my attempts to hatch a pharrloin. I like to keep them, just because I like having junkmon trade fodder. As for just random lowlifes-i mean common pokemon, I keep those too(if I can afford the box space) just in case I find a good GTS deal looking for a specific pokemon.
