Im not too sure if its clear but her hair is also a shade of dark red and since there are no facial details, uhh her eyes are creamy, leaning towards light brown, and she has white freckles and pointed ears. Tysm!

i think its back to the hat. the first one give the impression that the hat is smaller than the head and the hat is more flat in a sense. the second one the hat seems larger and more dome like with a longer and larger brim. this is mainly cause the first one, the hair and head extend past the cap, while the second the hat extend past the head which results in the two looking different and giving different vibes! Also side view, perhaps show a hint of red to indicate the strap's own red may help (this im not too sure) i love looking at your progress btw.

The issue I think with the pokeball not looking round is your lighting. Light, when it hits a sphere, concentrates in one area. The way it's shaded makes it hard to tell where the light source is coming from, given that the red shadow cuts off at the line.

A sphere's shadow is curved, so even though the colours are split, treat it as one shape, just change the colour accordingly. Don't cut the shadow up, or else your eyes will struggle to comprehend how the lighting works. Only cut them up if it's not flat, where one protrudes or sinks in more than the other. Even then, the shadow will be warped and still maintain its general shape.

Moreover, if we consider material, a pokeball is likely around plastic/metal material and shines so that where the light concentrates the more, have a speck of white to show reflection and shininess.

Finally, a pokeball centre, the tiny white part is protruding and thus will have its own little shadow!

Otherwise, for a first attempt it's really good and I can't wait to see more :D
