A rather enthusiastic nod shook the long black mane after Lida had handed off the apple. She walked over and put her saddlebag back on so she could gather some of the apples that fell. If any of Eve's pack wanted apples, she wanted to make sure they got first pick.

She raised her nose to the air and smelled no aliens nearby. She glanced back to Eve to make sure she was still with her, though she trusted this individual, she still wanted to be careful. When she looked back to the apple tree she was slightly startled to see more apples growing. This was an old tree so most of the apples were higher than a human could reach, but not too high for a horse standing on its hind legs. Lida reached her head around and removed her saddlebag to place it on the ground before doing just that. She gently grasped an apple in her teeth, pulled it down, and turned to offer it to Eve.

Lida shook her head and motioned toward the door, she'd grabbed enough books for the moment. She headed out the door and started off a little further into town. She knew there was an apple tree near where the old school was, and by now there should be a couple up there.

At the voice, Lida's ears and head swiveled in that direction before the body shortly followed. She moved over to Eve, her hooffalls barely making noise aside from the faint creak of the floorboards under her weight. She turned her head to get a good look at the notebooks before nodding her large head. Using her lips she lifted the flap of her saddlebag so that Eve could put them inside. She couldn't quite see the writing, but the pictures were of the aliens, even if they were just drawings, she could study them.

With a soft snort, Lida began walking through, treading lightly and picking her hoofsteps carefully so as to not step on rotted wood, or knock into anything. She went over to a specific bookshelf and gently nosed through some of the decaying books. These were books on animals. Most were pretty gross from the weather, but the couple she found were pretty good. She then moved over to another area to look at nature books, everything from camping and wilderness survival to gardening was there. As before, most of it was unusable. She did find a book on edible plants that was in a pile in a corner. She'd pick up the books delicately in her big prehensile lips and put them into her saddlebags, making sure to distribute the weight.

Lida tossed around the idea of giving Eve a lift ride, however, she seemed to be doing alright. She'd offer if the need arose, for now, she was totally content trotting along. Soon enough the trees began to thin, and through the branches the town came into view. It was definitely a bit overgrown, in the process of being reclaimed by mother nature. Some of the houses closest to the woods had been overtaken by creeping vines and a couple had collapsed. She slowed to a walking pace, her ears perked up and alert, listening for the faintest sound of the aliens. The spire of the library stood out among the buildings, only a few streets down. Parts of the roof were in disrepair, looking as though at one point they had been on fire. The doors hung off of their hinges, making it easy for the horse-sized Lida to get through without issue.

She nodded her large head and snorted softly as she walked out, her hoof falls echoing oddly in the ship. Once outside she raised her nose into the air to sniff a little, glancing back to see if Eve was following before trotting off at a gentle and easy to follow pace. The direction she was heading would lead through the woods into a town a couple miles out.

"You can't shift? Yet?" Lida chuckled before snapping her neck and popping both shoulders. "As for the wall of vines, I would really appreciate that. As for people wondering about them, let them wonder. If they intrude and mean harm... They won't last long." With the last sentence, her expression sobered leaving no trace of her smile. "Do you think that if more of us die off that those who survive will gain more powers? I'd overheard a small group of people talking about that sort of thing... I wasn't, and still am not too sure what I think about it..." She reached down and picked up her saddlebags holding them over her shoulders, which had started to get broader. "I still haven't learned how to communicate when I change over, so I apologize if I'm not very easy to understand..." With that her smile returned as her face got longer and she bent over, her hands now easily reaching the ground. Slowly her feet and hands fused and became hooves, her back and neck grew long, and she took on the shape of a sleek black Arabian horse with a blaze of white between her eyes. The saddlebags had settled over her back and she whinnied softly.

Lida bowed her head with a huge smile. "Thank you for the offer. I haven't found a way to close that crack, so the metaphorical door is always open to you and yours." She stood up out of her chair with a big stretch. "I was going out to gather some more books and other supplies I find. You're welcome to come along, it'll just take me a minute to change over."

"Most humans nowadays are very selfish and it's rare to find any human who isn't out for just their own gain. We're humans, we're pack animals. Whether or not we like it, we do better together." Lida gave a soft chuckle. "I try to be kind. My parents raised me to treat others how I would like to be treated. Anyways, I digress. I had asked about your living situation. Whether you move in with me or simply visit here and there, my home is open to you and your friends." Lida glanced down at the large cat every now and then as she spoke, so as to speak to the both of them.

The smile that had perched on Lida's features fell instantly at the word 'slaves,' and she sat straight up with a shake of her head. "I didn't mean for that to come across that way, I never thought that they were your slaves, more of a family. Of course it would be up to them, but if you could put in a good word for me," She chuckled. "I would appreciate it." She reached up with a hand and scratched at her shoulder. "Perhaps instead of knowledge I could offer you some of my resources? I don't have too much, but what I can offer is food, water, and shelter... You actually stayed off of my radar as well, so I don't know if your place is better than what I've got, but a trade means something from both sides."

"People tend to sweat at least a little, and that little bit is the problem. I personally use alien blood. I have access to plenty, it clings to clothes very well, and the smell lingers." Lida's eyes were glued to the big cat as soon as it entered the doorway, but she soon returned her focus and attention to her guest. "If you wouldn't mind, would you be willing to do an exchange? I have a decent collection of books... I would really like to get a closer look at some of your friends. I have to know what I'm changing into, and books are great, but the information is limited..."

"I've lived here for, uh..." Lida tilted her head back a little, having to think about it for a couple moments before returning her gaze back to her guest. "A couple days after this one crashed. Not really sure how long exactly, I don't find a use for keeping track of the days anymore." She nodded her head over in the direction of the door. "Your friends can come in if they'd like. The animal smell helps cover human scent, and the smell of the alien around here covers anything else pretty much." She sat forward in the bean bag, her smile more of a grin. "May I ask how you evaded the sniffers for so long? You smell pretty human..." Under the light and closer inspection, Lida's clothes were splattered in light and dark blue patches, alien blood.

Lida's smile returned and her hands fell to her sides. "I only hurt those who intend to hurt others. Sepiolida. You can call me Lida, Sepi, Sepio, Sep, or whatever combination you so choose." She turned and scooped up the saddlebags in one hand as she stepped into the darkness of the ship. "Watch your head here and there, I've mostly moved the wires out of the way so I don't get clotheslined, but some are a little stubborn." The inside of the ship was lit by shards of mirrors reflecting light into a concave dish of what looked like tin-foil. The strange metal arched high above their heads, and inside the chambers were some pieces of furniture, nothing a matching set. She walked over and set herself down in a beanbag next to a what looked like a plastic child's play table where a few other chairs sat.

Lida kept her hands open, and her smile fell a little as she saw the hesitation in the other woman. "That I am, and you can at least talk to animals. Would you like to come inside to talk? Otherwise, I'd rather not have to fight... I'm a little tired after that full change..." Her small stature was lean, but far from weak looking.

The horse snorted and dug at the ground a little as it took a step back with another snort. It reared up and balanced on its hind legs for a few moments as its whole body rapidly shrank down into a human form, the saddlebags sliding to the ground. "Thanks for the compliment," The woman, Sepiolida, chuckled. Her hands were held out to her sides showing their emptiness and implied lack of threat.

This ship was different than the others. It looked older and bore terrible burn marks along the sides. There were alien corpses laid around it. Most were burned and crispy, others were in varying states of decay. The place smelled sickly sweet, though no flies buzzed around the bodies. From a large crack in the side of the ship, trotted out a beautiful black horse with empty-looking saddlebags slung over its back, no saddle, no bridle, no rider. Upon spotting the group of animals led by a woman, the horse stopped in its tracks and stared at the leader of the strange group with a deep huff.

As for the aliens, picture the xenomorphs from Alien, but their blood/spit isn't acidic. Their hide is very tough, and their claws are very dangerous. They don't seem to have a sense of smell, but they have very good hearing and decent vision. They have basic intelligence and brought wolf sized creatures to sniff out humans (see images below). The aliens work out of their landed/crashed ships.

It has been several months since the first ship landed. The world has been mostly wiped clear of humans, but the natural world is still alive and thriving. The plants and animals are beginning to take over once populated areas. Food is plentiful. Both hunting the wildlife and scavenging for nonperishable foods are profitable. Before the radios went silent, people were trying to figure out why they were here and what they were trying to do. Most said they came to take the planet for themselves. Some said they were using us for food. A couple even said they were going to perform tests on us. No one has figured out exactly why yet. All we know is that they kill us when they find us. Wild animals don't seem to like them either, but most animals steer clear of them anyway.

Humans often gather in small roaming bands, or in slightly larger well defended settlements, though those are few and far between. Most ammunition has been spent, and pretty much all electronics don't work. The aliens used a pulse that killed electronics as they landed (see ships below for general idea of what they look like).

Weeks after the radios went silent, humans started showing signs of special abilities, and some began to harness their abilities. The abilities were unique to the individual, no two were exactly the same. The individuals often found special ways to utilize their abilities that gave them more diversity, and even a way to fight back, and if nothing else, help them and perhaps others to survive.

Name: Sepiolida (Lida/Sepio)

Age: 25

Gender: Usually female

Appearance: She stands only about 5'3'', her dirty jeans have rips in both knees and her shirt is a tan-brown color, though from dirt or from dye you can't be sure. A knife hangs from a jury-rigged sheath she tied to her thigh. Her dark grey zipper sweatshirt is always open since the zipper has long since broken. She has a pair of light brown combat boots, and over her shoulders is a backpack that has been patched a few times. It looks a bit weighed down, likely with supplies. All of her apparel seems to have fresh and wet stains of what looks to be varying shades of blue. Her skin color isn't very visible due to a fair amount of dust and grime. Her eye color is almost an electric blue. Her black hair is a short pixie style, though it looks haphazardly cut as if she did it herself.

Magic style: Shapeshifting. (Usually taking on multiple aspects of animals/materials, but if focused enough can turn fully into one animal at a time.)

History (completely optional): If you ask she might tell you.
