@ james

!!! i already really like them, haha. are you planning to start a new story with them or something else? :0

@ Galaxy

heck yeah, i love writing prompts! good luck with your art stuff! ^^

also, other things that help out with inspiration: random word generators, and Story Cubes. both are great for exercising those creative muscles.

at this point, i feel like i've seen every brand of the law enforcement-type character before, haha. but i'm also thrilled when writers do their research and get the ranks / assignments right! feel free to share, i guess! :0

plus, police camp sounds fun! in the US, they also have FBI training days for high-schoolers, which is really neat.

@ Dragi

i'm glad! i was hoping at least one person would find it useful. ^^

on the subject of writer's block:

honestly, this and procrastination are my two worst enemies. if you're the kind of writer who gets easily distracted even after they've promised to catch up 10k in the next hour [cough] me, maybe something like Write or Die or Cold Turkey will help you out?

the first one has a bunch of different options, but my favourite is hey man if you stop writing i will literally start to delete your words. the second one is an application you can download and - get this - it goes fullscreen and 100% stops you from doing anything until you hit your word count goal or a certain amount of time has passed.

other than resorting to software, like others have said, my only other solution is to step back and take a break. maybe do something else creative, like art. that works, sometimes!

most recently, the new black jack one. young black jack? i kinda put off watching it because the art style is different, but it's still got voiceovers from the original cast, so that's cool. it doesn't have the same feeling as the closer-to-Tezuka era shows, tho, which makes me sad. ;w;

it's not just you :0 i've seen this, as well. i think all of the "newbies" that have palpadded me have the "male" default avatar, regardless of their actual profile setting.

@ Dragi

yeah! i do, when i'm not writing by hand. i'm glad that google docs and tools like it usually have a "find and replace" button somewhere. the annoying part is when you have a lot of separate documents that need rewriting, or something drawn (e.g., a map ref or character ref) that can't be changed as easily. ;w;

same, meme

also, when you find a better name for a character and have to replace all the instances of the old name. /D i recently found more fitting names for a heck ton of my municipal areas and had to change all of that and half-remake the map. rest in peacE

with the new GTS and Gifting update, I think this suggestion has basically become implemented, right?

you can now see if someone's claimed a gift you sent by checking the Your Trades page, and if it hasn't been claimed yet, you can cancel it at any time! :0

@Dragi

YES! the nanowrimo events are probably the best things to have happened to my writing at this point, haha. this month will be like... my seventh camp nano? and the whole cabin set-up is just nice honestly. this time around i'm headed for 30k, but i can't get started until the middle of july, whoops.

I'm pretty sure this is a known thing that just hasn't been implemented yet. Riako's probably working on it as we speak. :'D

sorry oml i didn't realize you were just talkin' to each other

it would definitely be chaos, but i'm sure we'd have fun along the way. maybe something along the lines of an exquisite corpse / consequences kind of collab, more of a game than anything professional lol.

i'm also guilty of arting and writing. they're probably not the best illustrations, but it helps for world-building and stuff, certainly.

is it camp nanowrimo or something else? :0 because camp nano just started and i'm super pumped to get writing, as soon as my summer classes are let out.

maybe one day we can kickstart a club-wide collab? could be fun!

@ all

out of the three, i would definitely vote for the teddy bear one! the OTP one might not work as well because not everyone would be familiar with whatever fandoms would be used, and for me, the last one is maybe not open-ended enough.

i also really like the idea of a short or one-word prompt - like a feeling and a location, etc. so that has my vote as well, haha!

@Dragi

:0 i'm glad you enjoyed it! thanks for your feedback, i appreciate it!

so maybe just for clarification, it ought to be changed from "All interactions you make today count three times!" to "All interactions you make right now count three times!"?

that would work generally for all x3 events, no matter the length. given that the length varies depending on the event, you'd probably know how long it lasts while it's up, so it doesn't strictly need to be "a day" by default, right? if that makes sense?

//drops in right before a speed click event

aye, here's my contest entry for Fantasy Land! i tend to play fast and loose with prompt themes, but i'd say i'm not really reaching this time, haha. it's really short, at ~700 words, but hopefully it's long enough to be eligible.

good luck everyone!!

it's General Advice Hour ft. Somebody

yeah, as long as you're not A) padding the story with descriptions that don't forward the plot, B) dragging the story down with over-exposition, or C) being repetitive with how you describe things, you're probably in the clear.

like a pretty good example of whoa too much description would be this one book where the author takes two pages to describe someone dropping a tray of tea - yes, it's strangely really important to the plot, but the author could have easily taken the subtle route instead. sometimes it's better to be spartan; it just depends on the pace and atmosphere of your story, etc.
