"What kind of dragon was he?" Essie asks.

"Corruption is a form of dark energy?" Essie asks.

"But even a light dragon could be corrupted... would there not be a resistance?"

Mental link? That was interesting.

"Anyways, if it has been years, you probably have much catching up to do... Am I in the way?"

Essies's eyes widen slightly. Her hand goes to her mouth in surprise.

"I'm glad for you," she says, "How... do you know?"

Then, she adds, "She talked to your brother, right? Perhaps she has more information."

"I think if there were split personalities, they would disagree a lot. They would fight and wear each other down."

Essie fixes her eyes on the floor. So far, she has been mostly expressionless.

"Like when one shatters a mirror and rubs the broken edges against each other."

Essie decides she probably is revealing too much.

"Anyways, that is all the data I have. I recall now that corruption has been spotted in the city recently. Perhaps we should wait and see if we can observe the corruption firsthand."

"Honestly, the plan was that I would talk to others that are familiar with corruption and see what they know."

She could also try making actual tests less impractical, but that was definitely difficult. Essie didn't even know where to obtain corruption or how to store it.

"No. It would be impractical to expose other dragons to corruption in order to observe the effects. I was only able to collect anecdotal evidence, which that corrupted dragons have a tendency towards violence. Your account confirmed that they most likely have some sort of split personality."

"I had thought that the corruption splinters the personality of the affected victim, creating multiple split personalities. Everybody has a desire for destruction, however, it is normally suppressed by the internalized rules of our society. Perhaps the splitting allows for this desire to be unsuppressed."

Essie rests her chin on her hands in contemplation.

"But how could something as incorporeal as 'personality' can be split or destroyed? Clearly, the hypothesis needs to be tested somehow. That is why I am trying to collect as much data on corrupted dragons as possible."

Essie shakes Soren's hand, with a small smile.

"Yes, we will work together. By sharing information, we can get much closer to our goals."

"In fact, I can tell you my working hypothesis on the corruption."

"I simply would like to fully understand corruption and the mechanisms behind it," Essie says.

She rests her hands near her mouth. "Perhaps I can find a cure."

Essie's hands drop to her sides. She looks downwards. "Like you, I have been... personally affected by corruption."

"Uh, so corruption causes dissociation, as well as... evil? Are those the only symptoms?"

Essie thought she could word that better. Though, she supposed that it wouldn't be a jump to call her one of her split personalities "evil".

Essie stares back, unblinking.

This wasn't getting her anywhere. Essie was already well aware of the memory problems associated with corruption. Still, she wanted to know if her symptoms were unique. Corruption seemed to affect different dragons in wildly different ways.

"Uh, so the corruption affected his personality in addition to causing memory problems, correct? What were those personality changes? Was he violent before?"

Essie stares into the distance.

"Could he have been pretending that he was not aware of what he did?"

On the other hand, that was a terrible excuse. So the answer to that question was obvious; Essie shouldn't have even asked.

"Uh, do corrupted dragons do that in general? Say they don't remember doing their crimes?"

Oh, so Soren had multiple affected family members. That was interesting, though Essie would rather know more about the effects. In the end, the source didn't really matter, only the conclusion.

"What do you mean by, uh, not conscious? How could anybody do anything while unconscious?"

"B-both? How would that happen?" Essie asks. She fidgets a bit, but she seems more excited than anxious.

That still didn't answer how Soren knew about Essie's... interest in the subject. Nevertheless, Essie's curiosity barely outweighs her caution.

"I am Elizabeth. Uh, what exactly have you been looking for?"

(I'm not sure what you're referring to)

"Y-yes," Essie stutters.

"How did you know?" she adds quickly. She paces a little.

(let's hope I get some character interaction this time)

It's getting late, and Eliza had to switch to the next personality, Essie. Essie is in a pretty good mood. According to Eliza's notes, some corruption was spotted in the kingdom. That definitely was very relevant to her goals! Essie could even ignore the unfounded accusations Eliza had written earlier. After all, Essie knew Eliza was rather irrational, although useful at times.

Essie wanders around the city, wondering where she can learn more about corruption. She was annoyed that she had no better strategy than "wait for something to happen", but sometimes, she couldn't bring too much attention to herself.
