Maggiana Carlanís raised her head from the booth in the corner.

Where, what...

She had fallen asleep. It was a rare occurrence, but she assumed after seeing her parents over the weekend, it was expected. Her family was large and close knit, following every Italian stereotype ever. Except they weren't in the Mafia. That would have been cool.

She sighed, exhaustion still making her eyes flutter closed. She was just tired, bone-achingly tired. She rebooted her laptop, pulling the manuscript she had been editing back up onto the screen. She blindly reached for her tea, raising it to her lips. She nearly spit it back out.

Cold.

How long had she been asleep?

According to the clock on her laptop, she had been asleep for two and half hours. Lovely.

Slamming the screen closed, she stalked over to the counter, rubbing her eyes blearily. Mags was over this day already.

"Hey Bingo. Can I get another Russian Tea?" She reached into her sweatshirt pocket, pulling out a few crumpled bills. Mags was on decent terms with the bartender, having been a regular since she moved to Seattle a month abd a half ago.

"How did that make you feel? Was it... Upsetting? Was it just nice to have someone care?" She was quiet, thoughtful. If the Moon was real, than the Sun was real.

Which meant the star was real too.

Which also likely meant that someone was looking for the star to return it to the heavens. She needed to find it first.

"Roo, how old are you?" A simple question with way too many implications.

"Why was she crying? And how did you know? Did you see or feel her tears fall?" Her mind could rival a scientist or doctor when she needed it to. She noticed he hadn't pulled away from her touch, so she kept her hand on his shoulder, even as she shifted positions.

"Okay. So you met the sun. What was it like? Can you remember where you were? Close your eyes and see if you can engage your five senses to recall as much of the memories as you can." Her voice was low and even, oozing calmness. She had seen a hypnotist do this trick once; making your voice more soothing made people more subliminally receptive to you.

"So if I'm following, that would make you Ruby Moon. Which would make sense since you said you came from the Moon, and woke up in the middle of the mountains. Is that what you're trying to tell me?" She put a hand on his shoulder, hesitantly. He looked like he might be one of those people who flinch away from touch, but if physical contact brought him any comfort whatsoever, she was willing to try.

Nanami huffed softly, her annoyance mirrored by Hotaru's own sentiments. "Honestly, what's the point of assigned dormmates in a place like this? It's not like they care about our privacy," she grumbled, her pout matching Hotaru's perfectly.

As they stood before the dorm room doors, Nanami leaned in closer, her lips hovering dangerously close to Hotaru's ear. "Maybe we should find a way to... persuade them to switch with us," she suggested, her voice dripping with playful innuendo.

She slid her hand down to rest on Hotaru's hip, her touch subtle but unmistakably seductive. "After all, I'd hate to spend our nights with someone else when I could have you all to myself." Nanami's words were like velvet, and she gave Hotaru a sultry look, her eyes dancing with mischief.

Despite the ridiculous situation they found themselves in, Nanami couldn't deny the allure of the challenge. If anyone could turn an inconvenience into an advantage, it was her.

"..." She paused, narrowing her eyes. Was he trying to have a laugh at her expense? Deciding that he likely wasnt, she nodded.

"I agree. I don't have proof, but I believe it's real as well. May I ask why you seem to have such a strong conviction?"

"I won't lie. Every time I hear that story, I almost cry. I hate that they can't ever be together, the sun and the moon. Not even as lovers, just... Friends." She imagined what it would be like if she could catch the raindrops in her palm, and let the water trickle through her fingers. It would probably be a wonderful sensation before she dissolved.

"I don't know. Our version was slightly different. We believe that the entire earth mourned the day that Sapphire and Ruby passed. Their blood rained down on earth, blackening the earth, before anointing the ground with life and flowers. The cosmos shook, and the oceans raged, earthquakes and storms nearly wiped out the cookies of the world. And the wind blew strong enough to knock a single star from the sky. No one knows where the star has fallen, or what the star looks like. But it's believed that because the star is on earth, the earth couldn't destroy itself in its mourning. That star saved us."

"But alas, we're taught to believe it is just an old wives tale. Suns and Moons and Stars belong in the heavens, and we are supposedly resigned to our fate on earth." But Dee spoke as if she didn't quite believe the words she was saying.

She smiled, patting the grass next to her. "Come sit." She stared up at the night sky, the first stars emerging above the mountain peaks, scattered between the rainclouds.

"It's times like these in which we really realize how small and insignificant we are. Those specks of light in the night sky are bigger and brighter than we could ever be." She trailed off, a smile full of wonder on her face.

"Yet it is also at times like this that we realize our enemies and obstacles are also tiny and insignificant." She sighed. "Also, you should never take me seriously. I am told that I... I'm not the easiest person to get along with in this world. If I offend you ever, it's not my intention. I just... You know. Well, enough on that."

She sat in silence for a moment, listening to the rain patter on the treetops, playing with fire.

"So Mona seems nice. What were you doing at her cottage?"

The voice snapped her back to her senses, and Dee was visible again, kelting back into the spectrum of visible light. It was Ruby, the emo shadow boy. Despite all her internal teasing, she respected his dedication to battling, and absolutely loved his scarf tendencies.

"Hey, Little Roo. How are you doing?" She wanted to check in on him. He had had a strange reaction to Mona's story earlier, and she wasn't sure if it was a strange-good, or strange-bad.

Not-Jack followed through on its threats. It reached out a tendrils of darkness that snakes through Kendo's heart. A single twist of the shadow, and he slumped to the ground, unconscious. Not-Jack turned him over with its toe, checking to see if he was awake.

Determining his unconsciousness, it slung him over its shoulder, and dissapated the shadowy sphere. It looked around trying to find Arthur, but he had likely already fled.

Dee pulled her knees to her chest, sitting outdoors. She did this often in the evenings, closing her eyes and becoming one with nature. Because then she could work on her ambush magic. Slowly in the last light, the cookie disappeared from view, fading into nothingness. Dee could turn invisible for short periods of time.

She slowed her breathing, concentrating on the thrum of the world around her. She could feel the prickles of the grass on her legs, the soft breeze on her shoulders. The color phasing through her felt like wisps of heat, particles of matter drifting through her form.

The story of the sun and moon that Mona had told them drifted through her mind. Even though she knew how it went, she had almost cried at the end. It wasn't fair. They deserved to be together.

But she had forgotten a part. Dee wasn't sure if it was a deliberate oversight, or if the Teahaven version was different, but Mona hasn't told the story of the windy star.

It was said that on that fateful day when the sun and moon died, that their blood trickled down to earth, anointing the ground with life and flowers. The cosmos shook, and the oceans raged. And the wind blew strong enough to knock a single star from the sky. No one knew where the star had fallen.

But it was Dee's life mission to find that star.

"Oh, plans are hard to time. Improv isn't for everyone, I just have a lot of experience winging it. As for Ruby and Mona, I have no clue about them. Our conversation was tragically interrupted by the Dark Enchantress's invasion. I'm from way beyond Teahaven, though. A traveller. What about yourself?" She smiled at them. They seemed pretty cool.

"Hi, Lem! And again, I really am so sorry for banging into you. Um, Mona and Ruby are discussing the sun or something, they're the cookies I escaped with. I think we're planning to take back Floraberry Kingdom or something. I'm not sure, it's all really vague, and I'm not sure Mona has a concrete plan yet. But then again, that means improvisation, and that's what I do best!" Dee was very matter of fact, the adrenaline from battling the Enchantress's forces still coursing through her veins.

A swish of its hand, and the spears vanished from the shadowy bubble.

"You either talk, or I knock you unconscious. Last chance." It was a very impatient creature, fickle and pissy in its attitude. It also hated Kendo, had it mentioned that yet? It slid its hand into Jack's hair, tying it back into a single ponytail. The movement was just completely wrong, Not-Jack's possession extremely unnerving.

As someone who firmly enjoyed being in the aforementioned darkness, Dee had to raise an eyebrow at Mona's last statement. But still, she said nothing, instead flitting our of the cottage with a smile on her face, in which she ran into a cute cookie with shiny green and yellow hair.

Literally.

"Ohmygosh, hi! I am so sorry! Are you alright?" She took a step back, slightly awkwardly. "I promise I don't make a habit of smashing into people! I'm Dee, by the way."

"I'm much less vague, dear. Grew up far away from here with a fairly decent family. Annoyed at their attempts to set me up and marry me off, bless their feeble little hearts, I took to the woods to find my own path. I'm a natural out here. I find treasure, I discover cool things, I see beautiful landmarks of nature and metropoli, and I help people when I can. It's a simple enough existence, governed by my own code of morals."

"Okay. Just let us know if there's anything we can do." Dee nodded thoughtfully.

"Where are heading now? Will our path take us through the mountains?" Dee turned her attention to Mona, watching the cookie carefully. She was nervous that Mona would care so much about the rest of them that she would neglect herself.

"Dude, do you want like a visor or something for when you're in the sun? I can try and make something to shield your eyes if you want." Dee nodded empathetically, leaning on another walking stick she had somehow procured. Ruby was really funny. She liked the emo boy.

Dee listened with interest to the exchange. Mona had a good way of dealing with Ruby; she was patient and kind. Definitely more understanding than Dee. She believed in tough love and dry wit. Ruby didn't quite need that.

"Was the moon cold?" She asked, genuinely curious.
