Heading to her economics class, she chose a seat in the back, her silver hair cascading down her back. As she settled into her chair, Mei Xiu couldn't escape the feeling of isolation. She had no friends in this class, just as she had no close friends in most of her classes. Her introverted nature had always kept her somewhat distant from her schoolmates. It was expected when she was barely in attendance for a third of the school year. The teacher entered, preparing to begin the lesson, but Mei Xiu's thoughts were a swirling torrent in her head. She wished she were anywhere else. School had never been her favorite place, and today was no exception. She dreaded the upcoming math and physics classes, where numbers and equations felt like an entirely different language to her. As the teacher greeted the class and she got out her frighteningly empty notebook, Mei Xiu found herself daydreaming about her true passion. The movements, the music, the expression—it was where she truly came alive. In the new routine her teacher had given her, she still needed to perfect her side aerial into the triple elevated coûpe. It seemed so much more important to her future than supply and demand. She had read this in the textbook last week anyway. Mei Xiu didn't mind economics, so at least she was caught up in this class. But that didn't mean it was any less... boring. In these moments of academic tedium, she couldn't help but count down the hours until she could return to the studio and lose herself in it again. don't want to intimidate y'all with a long form~ ![]() Name: Mei Xiu Kensington
Age: 17 Gender/Sexuality: Female, Bisexual Appearance: Mei Xiu possesses a graceful and elegant presence. She stands at 5'4" with a slender figure and long, silver hair that flows like a cascade of silk. Her almond-shaped eyes, a shade of amber brown, are filled with a sense of wonder. Mei Xiu is typically seen in tank tops and cutoff jeans in greens, browns, blues, and grayscale, having a vaguely militarial style outside of the studio, even before the chaos of the zombie apocalypse. Personality: INFP (Introverted, Intuitive, Feeling, Perceiving). Mei Xiu embodies the INFP personality through her artistic and empathetic nature. She finds beauty and meaning in the world around her and is guided by her sense of compassion and creativity. Mei Xiu is a dreamer, an artist in both her dance and her outlook on life. She's deeply empathetic, caring not only for her close friends but also for the humanity that remains in the post-apocalyptic world. Her introverted nature makes her introspective, often seeking solace in her ballet practice. Backstory: Sent to a studio from near infancy, her adoptive psychotic dance mom has forced Mei Xiu to obsessively practice and devote her life to dance (ballet, contemporary, lyrical, jazz). Yet despite the pressure, Mei Xiu grew to love dance, and acceled. Her parents divorced when she was four, leaving her mother rich. Her contractor adoptive father has minimal contact with her, and disapproves that she is sacrificing a childhood for dance. Her birth mother OD'ed and is long dead. Her dance teacher is a holy terror, but Mei Xiu has long ago learned to maintain her calm and quietly assertive disposition to accel. She is very disciplined, and can manage her double life well. Mei Xiu is a national title holder, yet no one at her school knows. She is often absent for weeks at a time to go on competition tours, and thus has no close friends in classes. After years of dedication and auditions, she finally has achieved a full scholarship to the British Royal Academy of Dance, and is sitting pretty. Her life was once filled with the routine of competitions and rehearsals until the zombie apocalypse disrupted her world. Now, she dances not only for the love of it but also as a way to find moments of beauty and respite amidst the chaos. Strengths: 1. Extreme Strength and Agility: Mei Xiu's ballet training has granted her remarkable strength, agility, and poise, making her a formidable presence in both dance and combat. 2. Creative Problem-Solving: Her artistic mind allows her to approach problems with unconventional solutions, finding beauty and solutions in unexpected places. 3. Empathy and Charisma: Mei Xiu's ability to connect with people emotionally makes her a natural leader when it comes to building trust and unity. 4. Teamwork and Connection: Mei Xiu knows intimately the sacrifices the individual must make for the success of the team. She can work well with a variety of different personality types, seeking to connect and understand. Weaknesses: 1. Introverted: Mei Xiu's introverted nature can sometimes make her hesitant to take on leadership roles or assert herself in high-pressure situations. 2. Vulnerability: Her empathetic nature can lead her to be overly trusting, potentially putting her group at risk. 3. Lack of Combat Skills: While she possesses physical prowess, Mei Xiu lacks formal combat training, making her vulnerable in direct confrontations with zombies or hostile survivors. She has basic prop training with staffs and bludgeon type objects, but has no idea how to kill. 4. Lack of Academic Knowledge: Dance was always valued more than school to Mei Xiu, as her future career can't be learned in the classroom. She isn't good with maths and sciences, etc. Other: Mei Xiu carries her pointe shoes with her wherever she goes, viewing them as a symbol of her past and her unwavering dedication to her art. She keeps a secret hope that they may one day serve her in her quest for the future. She often dances to keep in shape and to remind herself that beauty can still exist even in the darkest of times. She shoved it down, refusing to let it emerge. Turning away from the others, she washed a pot, dumping in the sink with a loud clatter to be rinsed. "I need some air." Without waiting for a response, she bounded out the door like a gazelle, or a certain girl clad in gold. [Read more] |

"Ace, dear. It's actually rather rude to assume someone is a reincarnation of a mythical cookie. Roo just happens to have a similar name. Even if they were the sun and the moon, we should let them tell us on their own time." She clucked her tongue, flipping more pancakes onto a plate, and sliding them towards Mona. She took the jam off the burner, and set it aside to cool. "Everyone is special, Ace. If you don't think you are, then maybe you haven't found the thing you're good at yet." [Read more] |

"I'm a manuscript editor for one of the publishing houses. Fairly good at it, and certainly efficient. When I have a light workload, I'll peek at a few essays of college students in the local area and critique. I frankly just enjoy editing! I know, I'm a nerd, but the written word and laws of language just fascinate me, dear." [Read more] |

"Sorry," she said, cheeks pinking. The entire shop had likely heard that. "Oh, and Bingo, my workload has been a little light lately. If you want to let some of the college students you know are regulars around here, I'm willing to look at a few essays if they need a second pair of eyes. Pro bono, unless they love my services that much." She grinned, the familiar smile lighting up her face that appeared whenever she talked about the written word. [Read more] |

Dee woke up crying. It was a strange feeling. She raised a hand to her cheeks, feeling the damp trails of salty tears that had fallen in the night. She could remember the dream, but was unsure of the reasoning of any of the emotions that came with it. She sat up, and wiped at her eyes with the sleeve of her shirt, blinking rapidly. Throwing on her clothes, she padded downstairs to the kitchen, her eyes still red rimmed. Nodding to Mona quietly for fear of disturbing the witch's intent gaze, she busied herself with a frying pan she caught out of midair (how strange), and began to make breakfast. She wordlessly stirred flour, sugar, and milk into a bowl, heating the frying pan to cook the batter. A second saucepan simmered, turning the common berries that grew in the woods to fresh jam. Dee didn't get to cook often, but let no one say she wasn't resourceful in the kitchen. Her mother had ensured that no daughter of hers would ever go out into the world without the preparation required to be the best wife. She could begrudgingly admit the training had been useful; her bag was packed beautifully, her clothes were clean, all stains were removed promptly, her shelters were near and efficient, she ate healthy and well cooked meals in her travels... But Dee hadn't wanted the rest of what came with that training. Maybe she would someday, but not yet. [Read more] |

There was a woman whispering to her, begging her to find her, but she was more focused on the girl running ahead of her. A chase was always more exciting than a plea. Where were the others? Specters drifted into her mind unbidden; Mona, Roo, Lem. They seemed so near, yet so far away. Her mind whispered to ignore them, to focus on the task at hand. And so she tore through the forest, her bare feet silent on the mossy forest floor. Even though Dee couldn't see her face, she could tell the girl was beautiful. She seemed to shine with a silvery-golden glow, trailing after her like a fine mist. Her dress fluttered behind her, the same color elegantly catching the wind. The impossibly thin, gauzy material, hugged her frame perfectly, and it accented a flawless blend of muscle and curves, strength and beauty, power and grace. Her pale skin shone in the moonlight, Dee realizing it was nighttime. Who was her quarry? Why did she run? Why was she chasing the girl? Dee had no idea. She had the sense that she needed to catch her though, intuitively knowing she was important. Briars tore at her arms and legs, the small gashes tinged with red. But still she ran, bounding through the twisted forest. She was running, and running, and running- All of the sudden, she ground her toes into the ground, stuttering to a stop. She faced an impossibly wide chasm, dark mist clouding the lowest depths she could see to. She skidded to a stop just before the edge, a cascade of tiny pebbles being far less lucky. Dee watched, a lump of panicked terror in her throat, as they tumbled down, down, down, out of sight. She never heard them hit the bottom. Her quarry, on the other hand, leapt into the air, soaring on her golden wings through the gloom. Had she always had wings? Perhaps Dee just hadn't noticed them earlier. She reached out a hand, swiping at the air of which the girl had previously occupied, the motion as desperate as it was futile. She couldn't follow. The realization caused her to sink to her knees, an inexplicable wave of sadness and anguish overcoming her. The girl finally acknowledged her presence, and circled back around to hover above the chasm. Her wings flapped languidly. She was far out of Dee's reach. The winged one appeared to be assessing her pursuer, an innocent curiousity present in her eyes. She looked up slowly, watching the girl who was watching her. A piercing golden gaze met her own. Dee could see none of her features; the dress, the wings, the eyes... She was unable to determine the girl's hair color, her height, her facial features, what she looked like. The colors appeared to be swirling in front of her eyes, almost as if she was only but a faraway mirage. Their stares found each other, and swell of music rushed into Dee's ears. A haunting melody sang out, golden perfection against the foggy, gray sky. She realized in an odd sense of clarity that the music had always been there; she just hadn't been listening. Just as quickly as she had come, the girl disappeared, turning and gliding into the shadowy mist. Dee took a shuddering breath, her body aching inside and out. Her heart felt like it was going to break in two, the intense pain felt so acutely, she thought she might die. In a daze she stood, walking back into the mysterious forest. Her feet sank into the mossy carpet as she traveled at a meditative pace. The trees looked truly unfamiliar now. Dee continued to wander, the torrent of unfamiliar emotions bringing tears to her eyes. [Read more] |
