Kowai Kurai's POV

Youch. This girl better be careful. That sharp tongue of hers might get her killed. Or not, it's not like I care! she thought. Right. She didn't care.
"Oh, of course, I've just heard it around!" Kowai responded nonchalantly. "It's nice to be officially meeting you!!" She extended a hand.

Suzume Fujiimori's POV

The nerve of that girl. Suzume Fujimori felt her hands slowly clench into fists as she left the room. There was a cold, dark emptiness that occupied the way she walked. Drifted, not walked. It felt as though she was no longer walking.

Just who had this Kowai Kurai thought she was?...

I had been about to ask you about your Ultimate Talent. But you knew that somehow, didn't you?

Miss Fujimori did not like being ignored. She did not like being left out of a conversation. She did not like being interrupted. She did not like being told lies. She did not like this Kowai Kurai person.

No. She must not lose her composure. Must not form grudges of an emotional kind. Not again...

This really wasn't like her.

But something.

Something Kowai had said... was what disturbed Suzume most.

How had she known?

Through the halls, Suzume drifted. Her steps seemed to have an echoey quality to them. As though all of this weren't quite real.

She faintly thought she heard Suko's voice.

Suko.

Curious... Suzume had mixed thoughts abour such a person.

She'd wondered who they were, really.

Chaotic, flirtatious. Snapping... "Oh no we can't play this game"... no.

Was there a motivator for all that they did?

Suzume hadn't picked up what they were saying.

She didn't know if she wanted to.

...

Part of her wanted to find Megami.

Part of her wanted to find someone else.

Part of her wanted to be left alone.

And with that, she wobbled and her knees gave way, pushing to try to get up against the wall. But her body refused to.

Femi Davis's POV

Femi heard and felt Suko crash against him. His eyes widened, he was unsure how to process it at first.

He... wasn't repulsed by it. But somehow, underneath the mixed turmoil, he felt afraid. Very afraid.

Wasn't he always afraid?

This was just like what Kowai had done. Didn't he want to be friends with everyone?

But...

There had been something off about her. Somehow. And something off about Suko too.

...how could he ever be friends with everyone, when he couldn't stop feeling so very afraid, so very suspicious?

No. They weren't like that!! Not all of them...

Right?

Was this normal?

Femi felt it, as though a caged door had clasped shut on him. And finally, eventually, he responded.

"O-Oh! Hello, Suko... I've... missed you too," he almost mumbled. It seemed that his confidence had barely improved at all. "So what have you been up to lately? Probably talking to people you like a lot more than me, right?" Somehow the words poured out before he could stop them. Without stammering, in a rather unnatural fashion. Followed by quiet laughter.

He hadn't meant to say that! "I- I mean, Suko, I'm sorry, I-"

Don't cry. Don't cry, don't cry, don't cry, he begged himself. He pleaded with himself not to cry.

But he couldn't find his words. They all caught in his throat.

Kowai Kurai's POV

A voice rang out of seemingly nowhere. "Yes, Hisoka! After all, we all know you can never trust random "friends" in the bushes."

And so Kowai arrived, like a sudden windstorm at a kindergarten picnic! [I had to say it. Please.]

She put her hands on her hips and glanced between Koda, Hisoka, and Niwa. "I'm just kidding!! Maybe! Hisoka, Niwa, and- Koda? That's your name right? I don't believe we've met." She let out a mock gasp, and opened her mouth slightly.

"But, Koda, calmmm down. If anyone is likely to have their reservations about you, it's..." She glanced pointedly in Hisoka's direction. "That's just the way he tends to be, really. Whether someone is worthy of suspicion or not."

She smiled reassuringly at the three of them.

I have to admit Hisoka is a bit paranoid sometimes. However... I think that he's usually right in his suspicions of others. As much as I despise him, he is a very logical person, not likely to suspect things without good reason, evidence, or strong intuition.

And I have only a small idea about who Koda is. It might be best to calm her down though...

And as for Niwa...

Niwa.

...

Well...

She knew a good deal about who that was... Didn't she?

Suzume Fujimori's POV, Take Seventeen Because The Phone Keeps Dying

[TW: Blood, blood, blood, your organs]

Suzume felt rather groggy, as though she were seasick. She was being tossed about by the waves, and far too dizzy to swim. Yet she struggled to, rather than let the water engulf her. But to her horror... the water wasn't water. The horrifying mouth of a hissing beast, with so many tongues, so many fangs... so many eyes...

A beast with eyes clouded over with sadness. The tears sparkling in its eyes like crystals. "Why, Suzume?" the sea monster seemed to have so many voices, all shrilling in pain. Some whispering, some shouting, some normal in volume. Some so, so angry, some so sad... some empty. "Why did you do this?"

Suzume winced. She had to scrounge around... find something that would help her. Help her get away from... from-

"WHY? Still only thinking of yourself... I see." It sounded hurt a moment... "DO YOU even have a heart?"

Of course she had a heart. She wouldn't be alive without one. At least this was what she reasoned from that comment.

But had... the beast meant her capacity for empathy had waned? That there was something she should feel guilty for? She did what she had to do... Suzume felt queasy, her chest felt as though it was burning...

Did she... really not have a heart?

She tried to feel for it, but at that moment, her heart exploded. Her blood splattered everywhere. She grasped at where it had been, trembling, shaking, gasping, coughing out her blood... how... how did her heart explode?... was... it from so much fear? It wouldn't explode in this way...

And having reasoned that, she woozily drowned in her own blood... the Ultimate Scientist no more.

💉💊🛢📡🔬💉💊🛢📡🔬🔬🛢📡💊💉🔬💊📡💉🔬💊📡💉🔬

The heart is an organ the size of your fist.

That was the first thought Suzume Fujimori, the Ultimate Scientist had as she awoke. She did feel rather groggy. She couldn't help but check if her heart was still there... it was, but beating rather quickly.

What an odd nightmare... but she was quite grateful it was over. It had frightened her, yes... frightened her. She admitted it. Slowly, she shifted, searching... for her glasses. They'd fallen off. She forced them upon her face.

"Megami?" she found her voice let out the name before she could stop it. She couldn't help but wonder where the Ultimate Cryptologist was... but why?

But more importantly. Where was she?... what was going on here?

"How did I get here?" Suzume wondered rather loudly, to no one in particular.

She observed her surroundings. It seemed that there were two others here, in this room... she noticed Kowai Kurai, and Femi Davis. Two people she barely knew.

Femi seemed to be asleep. But he moved fitfully...

Kowai... a rather fascinating individual to her. Worthy of curiosity. But she doubted she trusted this person. She seemed rather unstable.

Femi... a frail, shy, anxious, easy frightened boy. Quite self-preserving, notably... and incredibly emotional. He seemed subject to burst into tears at any given moment.

And at that moment, Suzume heard footsteps. And then the figure was upon her.

Femi Davis's POV

[Flashback... 9 Years Ago.]
"GO! G-get away from me! L-LEAVE ME BE! I BEG OF YOU!! PLEASE!" the boy stammered, as he ran, dodging, frantically, desperately... He locked the doors behind him. He could hear them banging. He could hear them yelling. He could hear the bangs as those things... hit the wall... the cutting, the slicing...

No. Nonono. He was... safe! He was safe. He heaved a sigh of relief, willing the hyperventilation to stop. But he couldn't stop from trembling.

Femi tiptoed to the Nurses' Office, willing himself to stop shaking. He had so many memories here, in this place. Here he was, all alone, without a friend of his own...

He always was alone...

He sat down on the bed, but he could hear them. He could hear the bangs, the pounding on the doors. "WE KNOW YOU'RE IN THERE! COME ON OUT AND FACE US YOU PATHETIC LITTLE F---ER!!" "He's too much of a coward. Just like always! The other kid was more fun. Hey, kid, we've got a little kitty out here! Don't you wanna pet the little kitty?" "YEAH! COME ON OUT!"

...no. They didn't have a kitty. They... they HAD a little kitty. And they'd... they'd made him...

The knife glinted in his memory. He swore he would break down again, racketed with sobs... and... he did...

He curled up into a little ball on the bed, sniffling, sobbing, shaking. Breathing heavily... desperately willing himself to breathe quietly. The nurse wasn't here right now. It was late... He was bruised, bleeding, breaking apart... shaking, shaking...

"Just leave him. He'll come out eventually." Pause. Footsteps. Then... they were gone.

Femi had the thought right then. Before he could stop it, he had wished it. The thought had popped into his mind. I wish that they all were dead. That was his last thought before he let out a gasp of air he had suppressed from the fear, and fainted...

[Present Day]

My whole life, I've been the black sheep from the flock... surrounded by wolves...

But. Femi had felt like something had changed lately...

He'd realized, after all this time... maybe these people weren't wolves. Maybe... they were sheep, like him. Or something else.

What did he mean by that? He wasn't sure...

But then... his eyes widened. He awoke, became aware. His hands gripped his hole-ridden scarf to keep from shaking.

OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD-

Was... was he in an unfamiliar room? All by himself? No... nonono. Of course not. It seemed he wasn't alone...

He noticed two other people seemed to be in there with him. He noticed... Suzume Fujimori. The young scientist he'd grown acquainted with for a short period of time. And he'd broken down crying in front of her, begging forgiveness for everything that had happened. Not the best first impression.

Then there was... a faint memory stirred in his mind. The eruption of heartless laughter. A chill ran down his spine... right. That was Kowai Kurai. She was always smiling. For some reason. He had no idea what her talent was.

Did anyone? Anxiously, he stood up, trying to stir within himself the confidence to walk over and talk to them.

Friends. These were potential friends.

...right?

Kowai Kurai's POV

[Flashback... 7 Years Ago.]
Screams erupted all around her. There were flames, trickling upwards, growing higher and higher. Countless objects disintegrating into ashes.

A small young girl with huge reddish-brown eyes watched the chaos go down around her. In her hands she clutched a doll of a lamb.

People were running everywhere. She could hear them banging.

Why were they banging?

...slowly, she stepped over to the flames enveloping the atmosphere. She took a final glance at the lamb doll.

Into the flames it was tossed. She watched it burn, until there was nothing but ashes.

She felt for tears. There were none. Why wasn't she crying?

You'd think she could've felt something.

She reached down and touched the ashes with her fingers. The girl crumpled the ashes between them.

They weren't missed. She couldn't have missed them. The screams, the sobs carried on...

The girl wanted to cry, but she didn't. She smiled. The smile grew wider and wider. Before she knew it, she was laughing too!

She laughed, and laughed, and laughed and laughed.

And she began to play with the ashes, as the fire burned on.

But a tear glinted in her eye, never to make its way out.

[Present Day]
"Goodness!! How did we ever end up here?" Kowai chirped, a certain cluenessness in her voice. "Hello! Suzume Fujimori, Ultimate Scientist, was it?"

"That's right- I- who told you-" She'd seemed to have lost her composure a moment.

Kowai Kurai put her arms behind her head, which she tilted to the side, and interrupted her promptly. "Oh, you know, I just heard it. I also remember hearing about you before we got to this school. One of the most promising scientists the world has ever known! And at such a young age? They even made you an Ultimate!"

Suzume flinched. The girl's eyes glanced at the floor, refusing to meet Kowai's. "Yes. Yes they did." She spoke steadily, but rather choppy. How unlike her. "It's great to officially meet you, Kowai. If you don't mind me asking-"

Kowai interrupted her again. "Oh! Right! We need to figure out a way out of here!"

Suzume raised her index finger, eyes wide like those of a deer's, startled and now focused upon the girl. "But!!-"

"Well. I have no idea how we wound up here! But we might not be trapped. So we should just look for the exit."

Suzume looked as though she was going to speak, but no sound came out. There was but a muted drone of sound, that was more robot than human.

As if to break the silence, a certain voice spoke. "Umm... h-hi- I- don't mean to be rude. Sorry if I'm interrupting anything. I'm... Femi Davis. If you didn't know my name yet. Ultimate Animal... Trainer. I- I don't know... I- sorry if I'm-"

Suzume Fujimori seemed to be snapped out of her droning. "Yes. Femi. I've met you already. But I'm guessing Kowai hasn-"

She stopped, as Kowai rushed forward and-- hugged Femi?

"Ohh, heyy! You're that one boy who never dared talk to anybody, aren't you? I mean, not that we've been here that long! I'm Kowai Kurai!!"

"I- I know- I just- wanted to... um..." Femi fidgeted. He seemed uncomfortable.

"Femi, let me ask you something. As the Ultimate Animal Trainer, have you ever handled sheep?" Kowai asked.

Suddenly, it was as though there was a shine of confidence in him. "O-Oh! Of- course I have. I love sheep! They're really sweet. And- bears are also sweet." He shivered suddenly. "Most of them..."

Suzume had her arms crossed and her brows furrowed. "Not to intrude on the conversation," she almost snapped, "but shouldn't we be getting out of here?"

Kowai broke the hug and Femi nearly fell over. "Oh!! You're right, we should!" She clapped her hands for some reason. "Should we try the door?"

Femi couldn't help laughing for some reason. "Ah- um- yeah! Definitely! The door." He slowly made his way towards it, and it... opened? "I'll... see you two later, I guess?" he asked awkwardly.

"Of course!" Kowai replied cheerily. "See you later, Femi!"

As he walked out, Suzume turned to glare at Kowai as she tried to leave. "Not so fast." She grabbed Kowai by the necklace she wore. Kowai sputtered and choked. "HEY! Careful there!"

"First, you interrupted me multiple times. SECOND, you seem way too calm about this whole situation. And third-" Suzume paused, with a guilty look in her eyes. "...never mind. But I'm watching you." She let Kowai go and stomped away. Moments later, her walking turned silent.

Kowai had to fester up every ounce of self-control in her being not to attack her. At the end of it, she felt rather dazed by all that had happened.

A smile made its way onto her face. "I'll be watching you too, Suzume Fujimori. And Femi Davis."

And so she made her way out the door.

(Probably my longest post ever honestly- and there was still more I wanted to add- but this is it for now- important note, Kowai was unconscious ike everyone else, she just happened to be awake before Suzume and Femi were. From here, I'm going to try to catch my characters up on the current chapter. PS, I left Kowai's thoughts out on purpose in this post, so the reader can interpret what she might have been thinking-)

Suzume Fujimori's POV for the sake of ships

Suzume, or "Suzy", glanced over at her friend. She hadn't noticed her walking in, and it seemed Megami had been standing there for a while. She looked as though she was frozen to the spot as though she had turned to stone.

"Hello, Megami," she replied. "How long have you been standing there?" Her eyes blinked dully. Wait... should- should she have said something else? She shook her head. No. No, no, no. Megami was her friend.

Friend... what a strange concept. Yet... this was what she considered Megami. Right?

Their relationship wasn't something she had gotten very clearly in her head. For some reason, she felt as though... she had an obligation to act differently around her.

She wasn't quite sure as to why. Was it… was it the acts of kindness that Megami had performed towards her? Was it the fact she had always tried to comfort her herself?...

Yes… friends. That must be what they were.

Kowai Kurai's POV

(Alright, due to the drastic delay in how long it has taken me to post, I will sort the Kowai post into two categories: One, before Hisoka left the library, and two, after Hisoka left the library)

Before Hisoka Left The Library

Kowai huffed and cast Hisoka a grateful glance. But a moment later she realized she disliked this. She didn't want to owe him for anything.

Still... the fact he was willing to help her. That was a comforting one. NOT IN A WEIRD SOFT WAY!

After all, she still had to ask for his help later with something...

After Hisoka Left The Library

”...” Kowai was still there, inside the library. She was shuffling around the room, ruffling through pages… ruffling through pages of books. Surely, she could figure it out. Surely, she could figure out how it all worked. She just needed some more time.

Femi Davis's POV

Femi, newly recuperated, found himself swiftly knocked over by Suko. His eyes widened in shock as it happened, and…

And strangely, he didn’t find himself pushing them off. But they’d already gone, gone away.

Had… he just found himself giving up on things, at this point? No, that wasn’t it. Surely…

Surely after all the people who died, just like that. Surely he should be more terrified than ever.

Right?...

But he felt a certain urge. A certain urge that hadn’t been there before.

He… he wanted… he wanted to connect with these people. He wasn’t quite sure why. Maybe…

He wanted to help. He wanted to stop another death from happening. (AMANO’S DEAD FEMI) He wanted to make sure everyone would be okay…

It’s not like Femi was obligated to protect everyone. But all he’d ever done was cower in fear, try to deny everything scary that was happening… and… when he did that, it had almost killed him. Not only that, but it had killed multiple others.

He never even knew them all…

Femi sighed, watching Suko go off. It seemed they acted like that with… basically everyone.

Why did… that thought hurt, somehow?

It's not like you're any better than them, a voice inside him whispered, and his face grew choked up.

Kowai Kurai's POV

Kowai's eyes widened as she was tackled in a hug. WHAT THE HELL ARE THEY DOING!?!?! She resisted the urge to throw a book at them. She struggled not to crack a freakish smile. "Ohhh, so- you're Suko! What's your talent, the Ultimate Football Quarterback?" she asked sarcastically, although in a playful tone. "Also, could you please get off me?"

Her eyes flashed to Hisoka, with a look in them that said GET THEM THE [CENSORED] OFF ME!!

Suzume Fujimori's POV

Suzume watched Suko and Megami walk off, her brows furrowed and arms crossed. She almost wanted to go after Megami. But she had to take care of... Femi, here. Perhaps now would be a good time for them to get to know each other. Carefully, she got to treating Femi's wounds, and then, after glancing left and right, carefully, she tiptoed off to the cafeteria.

She frowned. What was Femi?... The Ultimate Animal Trainer. Right. He might be a vegetarian, then. She checked the food stocks and put together a salad, and a plate of rice. He might not eat dairy either, so she didn't get any of that. Okay.

Suzume also got some water, and she brought the food and water back to him. Carefully, she put some salad on the fork, adjusting it to his mouth.

Femi Davis's POV

Femi's eyes slowly fluttered open. It seemed... he was alive. His throat felt... so dry. What was that taste on his tongue?... Lettuce, tomatoes, chopped carrots. An olive-skinned girl with strange bright yellow eyes, a heavily spotted face, and faded blue hair watched over him.

His eyes widened. "U-um... hello. I don't... know if I've talked before." Why... did he feel... so calm right now? What happened? Slowly, he struggled to reformulate his memories.

Killing school. Tricked. Several people died... Brink of death. Clinic?...

"Yes. I don't believe we have spoken before," she replied calmly. "I was attempting to wake you. I'm... glad to see you're alright. My name is Suzume Fujimori, the Ultimate Scientist. Now I suggest you eat this food I've brought to you, and drink the water that I have brought you, before you succumb to... whatever kills you first."

Femi nodded, as vigorously as he could manage, and he began to eat the food and drink the water. "Hey... I- I appreciate- you doing this. You don't even know me... you could've... just let me die. A-a-and... all this time, I've- just been useless. And a coward." What was... provoking him to say this? He wasn't sure... but right now, he felt like crying, again... but not for himself.

A strange look came into Suzume's eyes. "Well, it's not like- I could just let one of our students die, could I? Ahem. I mean, because, it... might be more useful to have as many Ultimates alive as possible..." Femi couldn't help but get the feeling Suzume was making some kind of excuse.

"Wwell... thank you... anyway. S-Suzume. Where's... Suko?"
He wasn't sure how he felt about them. But... he- wanted to know- they were- okay? Why wouldn't... they be here?

"Oh. They're... off in the library. With Megami."

"M-Megami?..."

Suzume waved her hands dismissively. "Oh! She's- the Ultimate Crypotologist. And... a- friend of mine?" She seemed to feel weird saying those words.

"O-Oh. Heh... I- guess I have a lot of people to meet, huh?" Femi laughed deliriously. "I... I really hope... no more of you guys die. I can't stand everything that has happened... and... I've- been so selfish... and..." This time he really burst into tears.

The scientist seemed uncertain how to react. She settled for just patting Femi on the back.

"Hey... it's- it's okay. It's okay."

Kowai Kurai's POV

Kowai Kurai was walking through the library. She spotted Megami and Suko in there. "OH! Hey, how's it going? What are you reading there?" Kowai had a wildly enthusiastic smile upon her face as she approached them. "You're Megami, and Suko, right? Whatcha reading? Can I read with you two?"

Just make conversation with them, see how it goes.

Suzume Fujimori's POV

Suzume sighed. "I do know... some things. First thing we should do is observe the damage, stop the bleeding, if he's still bleeding. Apply ointments and disinfectants if we have any... and of course, bandage his wounds. There's something else I think needs to be attended to. No one saw Femi on the first day, right? I'm guessing he's also starving, and severely dehydrated."

She bit her nails. This was problematic...

Suzume Fujimori’s POV

”...” Suzume, as she helped carry Femi, had her eyes find themselves traveling, not in the direction of where Megami had gone, but strangely, to Niwa. She had never paid much attention to him before. But… there was a look on that boy’s face…

She wasn’t quite sure what registered there. What kind of person was he? What kind of things did he know?

She shook away the thought. No, nothing, right? Perhaps, just a random feeling of unease. But it seemed like, for a moment there, that he could see right through me. Like I was a string of testing results upon a page…

But her logic was rarely random…

Kowai Kurai’s POV

Kowai observed the atmosphere. Everyone was noticeably ever-more crushed, ever-more quiet. Filing off to their own things, praying they wouldn’t be the next victim. Picking up the pieces…

Pawns. All a bunch of pawns, to play out a game, wasn’t that what they all were?

And everyone would go up in flames if they didn’t reach the other side of the board. Become a more important piece of the puzzle. Someone who can’t be killed easily.

Her eyes scanned everyone, like a pair of binoculars. They weren’t even trying to play optimists now, none of them were. The atmosphere… grew more and more dead with every head that rolled.

Chop, chop, chop. And who would be gone next?...

”Well, come on! You all coming?” How unlike Hisoka to ask such a thing. He seemed… different now. A smile, like the cutting blade of a knife, carved its way into Kowai’s face. She was smiling, smiling.

E̵̢̬͎̮̍v̸̹̻̜̠̝͊̑͜ͅe̸͖͖̯̾͆̈́͆͆̾̃̐͘r̵͎͖̟̞͇̦̈́͋̿̅y̷͈̻̬̘̬̏͆ó̵̹͇̇̓̒n̵̡͙̗͕̑͌͋ę̴̢̰͙̘̫͇̻̒͗̑̍̀̇̀͛̕ ̸̧̛͍̰̬̞̱̝̼̖͋͗͒̐͂̓̇͑͠w̶̡̧̩̖̞̗͓͎͔̄̄ǫ̸̧̱̥͓̮͇̝͚̤͑ư̷̧̧̙̻͙͈̬̟͌̇̇̽̄͛̀̕l̸̛̝̥͍̬̹̬̼̫͊̒͗ḏ̵͕͎̦͙͊͑́̓͑͘͠ ̴̡̦̺͓͕̥͙͛̃̆̈́͜b̵̠̐̈̎̔̍ë̷̡̫̥̜͔̳̭͕͓́̌̆ ̷̢̡̻͉͈͓̞̤͚͛͠ş̴̠̤̮̃m̷̢̢̨̖͈̜̤̩̘̓́̀̈̎̉̚͜͠į̴͈̰̬̺̪͉͙̝̇̆͌̈́ͅl̵̡͈̣̬͉̙͎̲̗̿͐͠ͅì̶͇̾̀̋͠n̸̻͕̹̦͈̠͒̀̅̄g̸͖̖͉͕͚̦̜̳̑̓̅̆̈́̈́̈́̿̈́͠.̵̘̮̦̟͚̱̞̦̽

"Coming!" she chirped at last, ending her eerie silence.

Kowai ducked out of the room with Hisoka. They had much to discuss together… later.

Femi Davis’s POV

[Femi Davis was in need of a lot of medical attention and his point-of-view could not be obtained at this time due to him being stuck in a state of dying unconsciousness. Someone please let us time-skip to when he gets medical attention so he can get screentime. Pls.]

Femi Davis's POV

Femi flushed bright red, although it was hard to discern whether it was from anger, exasperation, embarrassment, or flattery. He would be screaming right now, had he the energy, and were he not dying.

"I... do... not! We're not friends, or... DATING! OR- What...ever... you're... sayi-" He didn't have the energy to say more. He fainted.

A few thoughts had stirred within Femi, before his unconsciousness. He had wondered... why did Suko seem so attached to him? Why was he always the target of their taunts? Was... Suko really so bad? Was he wrong to judge them? He wasn't exactly sure how he felt... about the Ultimate Gunman...

Suzume Fujimori's POV

Suzume was snapped out of her tears and depressing thoughts. She awkwardly shuffled away from Megami, finding herself strangely red-faced. She heaved a slightly exasperated sigh. "It's Suzume. Or Miss Fujimori. Or Professor Fujimori. Whichever you prefer." She glanced over at Femi, who had fainted.

"Now look what you've done. He needs medical attention! We can't lose... another..." Why did she find herself hesitating? And... on the verge of tears again? Focus, Suzume. That's... not Rin Shizuki. That's... someone else...

Shizuki... why was she thinking of her now? She barely knew her... Why?... why did that have to...

No. She wouldn't lose her composure. She came over to help carry Femi. "But. I suppose since he needs the medical attention so badly," she mused, "I can help."

Kowai Kurai's POV

She seemed to glare with narrowed eyes a moment. She sighed, and swung her hands behind her head. "So, so blunt and to the point, Hisoka. But to be fair... I don't trust you either." Kowai gave him a nod in exchange to the look. "We should leave now."

Hisoka Yamanaku... she hated him, she distrusted him. She'd kill him if she had the chance, and he knew it. And yet... as much as they both despised and distrusted each other, ironically, they both knew they were the only ones who COULD trust each other and work together.

This would be very interesting.

Suzume Fujimori's POV

Suzume felt as though she had ingested poison, but someone was holding to her lips the antidote. And she just had to open her mouth, and take in the dose. The liquid was near her, now, preparing to enter her mouth, fall down her throat, and end the throbbing of her aching heart...

And she let it. She let out the tears, the sobs, completely, shaking her, shaking her, and wrapped her shaky, shaky arms around Megami. Megami... The only antidote to her poison. Since when had it been this way? Since when had she ever needed one?

She supposed she had. But what would she do... if she lost it?

Kowai Kurai's POV

Kowai pulled Hisoka away. "You're well aware of what happened, right? I gave you it. You know what I mean... at this rate, the only way either of us is going to survive," she hissed in a whisper, "is if we work together. Now... are you going to work with me, or not?" A moment later, she smiled sweetly, curtly intertwining her fingers. The picture of innocence and calm.

Femi Davis's POV

Femi was struggling. Struggling to make his way away... away from Suko. To safety. Where was safety? He needed something, no... a lot of things. Therapy. Food. Medical treatment for his wounds. Water. He was flipping dying here... BUT EVEN THAT WAS BETTER THAN...

Than... Suko. Wasn't it? Was he really fair to hate them so much?

Suzume Fujimori's POV

Suzume inhaled and exhaled deeply. But this wasn't enough to calm the Ultimate Scientist down. She was shaking, shaking all over. She collapsed onto her knees, as though she was as tired, thirsty, hungry, and anemic as Femi was right now. She actually looked as though, she were about to vomit.

Her eyes erupted in explosions of tears. Normally, she would’ve wiped them away, surprised, curious as to how they’d gotten there. But the despair of the situation had overtaken her, and all rational thought had been swept away. There was somehow… something so horrible, about the way they were all but little experiments…

Stripped of their humanity… as people…

She heard it, a voice. A light in the darkness. A voice she recognized. "This can't happen again."

Suzume wanted to believe it. That this couldn't happen again. At this point... she couldn't even act rationally...

Kowai Kurai’s POV

Kowai raised her eyebrows at Hisoka. Was this what she thought it was? “What is it, Hisoka?” she asked in a rather serious-sounding whisper. Could he have been asking her, to make good on the alliance they had made? Or… could it have been something else?

Femi Davis’s POV

Femi let out muffled screaming noises that sounded remotely like they could’ve been “NO!!!! NO!!! NO!! NO!!” and normally, would’ve flailed his arms rapidly, but in this case, barely moved them, and he faceplanted on the floor away from his podium. It seemed that he was probably dying now and should probably get some kind of healthcare from somebody.

Suzume Fujimori’s POV

Well. Wellwellwell. Suzume was shocked, honestly. She expected this trial to take a lot longer. [Suzume voted Redmonda.] It had all been a matter of alibis after all? Everyone seemed to be falling apart…

“So… that was why you did it, Redmonda?” she asked, adjusting her glasses for the umpteenth time. “...I see.” She wasn’t sure what to say, was there much to say, really?

“Well, goodbye, Redmonda. I didn’t get to know you. But… I hope your death won’t be painful, and you find peace with what you’ve done.” An edge of sadness had entered her voice as she spoke. She immediately wondered why…

Kowai Kurai’s POV

Kowai looked disappointed. “You mean… that’s it? That was why you did it? And you’re just going to confess, just like that? You’re not going to start pleading with your life like nooooo, Monokuma, please don’t kill me!”

Kowai leaned her head back and wiped her forehead with a woeful expression. “Oh, please spare my life!! I didn’t mean to kill that person!” She started weeping dramatically. “B-But… really, Redmonda? That was all Akihiro died for?” she sniffled.

Who the duck even was Akihiro? I don’t even remember.
[Kowai voted Hisoka because she hates him with the burning passion of 6 human souls.]

Femi Davis’s POV

”...” Femi finally awoke himself to what was going on. There was an eerie silence that hung in the room. Within… the Trial Room. Did that mean… the killer had been found? Someone had died? And he hadn’t… even been able to help… again…

This was his fault… wasn’t it? WASN’T IT? Femi began to cry, but only slightly, his body could barely squeeze out the tears.

“...S-Someone… died… someone… is going to die?” he whispered, barely audible to most in the room.

[Femi did not vote.]

Suzume Fujimori's POV

A startled look came upon Suzume's face. "Redmonda... left at some point? Redmonda. Where were you? Where did you go? What did you do?"

Was... she the killer?

Had she killed Akihiro?

Kowai Kurai's POV

"Oooooooooh, B-U-S-T-E-D, BUSTEEEEEED!" Kowai squealed, clapping excitedly. "Okay, Redmonda, this is the part where you desperately plead with all of us and say 'NOOOO! You guys got it all wrong! I-I didn't do it! I didn't kill herrr'!"

Femi Davis's POV

It seemed... that a certain shock had caused most of the flies to go still. Femi was confused... what had happened?

Suzume Fujimori’s POV

”...I see, Keiki. Who pushed you?” Suzume asked, doodling down notes about the case on the air with a nonexistent pen. It was an odd gesture but it was helping her take note of things, somehow. If only she’d grabbed her notebook earlier…

She shook her head. “I doubt this is of any relevance, but… about when we poured the bags out, it’s definitely a possibility that when we did that, it was of no real help, because the killer could’ve easily disposed of any evidence elsewhere. But… anyway.”

She slowly pored over the information in her mind. “Would anyone here have any motive to kill Akihiro that could’ve been known to us? Why would someone have done this?”

Oh, this was hopeless. Somehow, the pieces refused to fit together in her mind.

“Keiki, I’m not doubting you, but do you have anyone else to vouch for you besides Niwa? I know that, like you, I probably only have my friend Megami to vouch for me. But, if no one else saw you there, you could be working together as accomplices. And… I’m not saying it’s not a possibility that I might’ve done it as well.”

Kowai Kurai’s POV

Kowai’s face brightened. “Ooh!! This theory again! Did anyone see Keiki or Niwa leave the pool at any time? Together or apart?” Suzume glared in her direction. “Kowai. I’m somewhat grasping at straws here for anyone who might’ve left. I’m not exactly sure that either of them could be the killer, and the other the accomplice.”

Kowai sighed and shook her head. “You’re no fun! Have we heard everyone’s alibis yet?”

Femi Davis’s POV

Femi Davis, barely even conscious of his surroundings, found himself confused. Swarms of flies… buzzing around him… He couldn’t make it out. Wait, how could he understand giant flies speaking?... how… confusing…

Suzume Fujimori’s POV

”...” Suzume bit her tongue. She hadn’t realized with what she’d said she’d implicated herself. “Right. I attended the meeting to learn about the motives.”

Megami had sat by her, so her friend would’ve known of her innocence. “I only left the room once I heard the announcement that a body had been found, and I searched different rooms in the building until I found the kitchen, and, by extension… came to see the victim, Akihiro’s body, like most of you all did.”

She pressed her index and middle finger against the rim of her glasses, with narrowed eyes in deep thought. “So… the arsenic must’ve been baked into the cupcake? But who would’ve had the time to cook the cupcake? And following this theory, are we implying that she ingested the poison, and then the killer attempted to burn the pastry-turned-murder-weapon to remove all traces of the weapon?” she queried.

“I know I might’ve been able to find the arsenic, as an Ultimate Scientist would most likely have this within their Ultimate Lab. But I didn’t leave the meeting the entire time.” She crossed her fingers.

Suzume noticed how broken Keiki had looked this entire time. What a nervous mess… was it because they were the killer? Of course, that couldn’t have been the only reason. They could very well be innocent. She had to congratulate them on reasoning it might’ve been the cupcake’s filling.

“Keiki, that was clever on your part to deduce what part of the cupcake the poison must’ve been put in. But, there’s something that’s been bothering me, the matter of alibis. Where were you? What were you doing?”

Kowai Kurai’s POV

Kowai’s face formed a frustrated pout, and she crossed her arms, glaring down to her left. She didn’t suppose she had an alibi. “I was at the pool the whole time until I headed to the scene of the crime and saw Akihiro’s dead body! Honest! There’s no way I could’ve made her ingest poison. Plus, I don’t even have a reason to kill Akihiro.”

Femi Davis’s POV

”In room, moving… food… water… screaming, reaching, dyin-” “Yes, thank you, Femi,” Suzume interrupted, with a dismissive wave of her hand. “We know there’s literally no way you could’ve done it.”

Suzume Fujimori's POV

Suzume processed the information in her mind, slowly lifting her hand to her face, deep in thought. "Ah! It... didn't have an odor, right? And arsenic doesn't have an odor," she murmured. "So you're implying that the killer poured arsenic into the cupcake, and then tried to burn the cupcake to hide the evidence? That they made us think the knife was the weapon... why would they place the knife so carelessly? At least make a convincing frame..."

She shook her head. No. She should be grateful the killer slipped up in such a way.

"But knowing the state of the poison... what does this tell us? Who could've gotten arsenic?"

Suzume Fujimori's POV

Suzume glanced over at Femi, and then at Megami, then Suko, then Hisoka respectively, reflecting on what they said as they spoke. She was pretty sure what Femi said was just some deluded rambling... after all, he had undergone a lot of blood loss, but he might've actually uttered something helpful. Could the death have been a suicide? Could the victim have been made to ingest carbon monoxide? But why?...

"As long as they could get the stove to produce Carbon Monoxide, that would be enough."

"Maybe," Suzume responded to Megami. "But... what if they needed to kill her quickly? So no one would find out?" she proposed.

She considered what Kowai had said as well. "It is most important to figure out who did it. But, the cause and circumstances of death might be able to point us in the right direction."

Well. Okay, Suko. It was a relief Femi was alive, of course. But, that wasn't important to the case right now.

She turned to Hisoka, who presented the most puzzling factor of all. "But is there any way we can figure out how the poison killed her?"

Kowai Kurai's POV

Kowai crossed her arms, an irritated expression upon her face. "What about the motiveeee?" she pouted. Of course, that'd be important as well. But Kowai wanted to ensure all aspects of the case were being accounted for...

If we focus too much on how the poison was taken in, we MIGHT ALL GET KILLED, YOU IDIOTIC GOOD-FOR-NOTHING FOOLS!

They weren't completely wrong though... still.

Femi Davis's POV

Femi gave a little thumbs-up. "Haha. Yeah..." There was a strange little smile upon his face, and a distant look in his eyes. He didn't seem fully aware of what was going on, or he would've been a twitchy mess.
